Awesome.. This could be a game changer draft indeed.. Just hope that EJ pans out. A lot is in his hands now and also in Hacketts hand to use the weapons. My hopes for this season: 1. Hope EJ gets to that next stage and can make the throws trusting his WRs to be there at a spot rather than waiting for them to get there. Hope he remains healthy. Hope he can help the safeties push back so that there is running room for Spiller, Jackson and Brown. 2. Hope Hackett can improve his play calling and put his best 11 players on the field. Hope he takes the shackles of EJ. 3. Hope Schwartz can stop the Run. With an unknown QB on the fold, we have to be somewhere around the top-15 against the run for us to be successful. 4. Hope the ST coach turns around an unit that has struggled. 5. Hope Whaley finds a veteran backup QB and does not go into the season with Lewis and Tuel. 6. HOPE We make the playoffs....It is time!! 100%.

Bills Roster Talent NOT COUNTING QB
ganesh replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Once in a while teams do get lucky with that Veteran QB.....The Broncos have done this quite a few times since Elway's departure. They have built a core team and then hired a pricey veteran QB in Manning or Jake Plummer and also lucked out in that one draft they got Jay Cutler. Similarly Oakland was successful with Gannon, 49ers with Jeff Garcia and Jets plugged Vinny Testervade and took them to couple of AFC championships. If EJ does not succeed do the Bills have a shot at such a QB somewhere? Will Pittsburgh trade Ben Rothelisberger for two 1st round picks and if they did, would the Bill trade for him? What about Baltimore, Pittsburgh. Both have SB winning QBs who can keep their teams in the race in spite of a weaker roster. The Steelers almost made the playoffs if not for a botched FG kick by Minnesota on the final quarter of play of the season. And the chiefs have a pretty dominating team... -
Thinking outside the box with RD 1 picks

This works only with the current CBA with the rookie wage scale. This would not have been possible prior to the last CBA as teams won't be able to make 60M contracts every other year to a rookie. As these rookies start being successful, it is possible that top draft choices could become way too expensive by the next CBA -
This is exactly what they told everyone last year and yet the 1st QB who went off the board was neither named Bridgewater or Manziel.

Last years handling of the East Tennessee WR should have been a good indication of how Doug Marrone wants to run his team. I doubt Lyerla ever gets to Buffalo.

WR Stevie Johnson traded to San Francisco 49ers

SJ was best when playing with Fitzpatrick, a QB who had a quick release and did not need to throw beyond 10 yards. SJ flourished in that system in spite of his lack of focus or ability to consistently break the jam. Fitz and EJ are not the same type of QBs. If EJ can learn to be consistent with the long ball, he now has the right WRs to win the match ups. Game on EJ. That is a great line indeed...It would be nice if the Bills can get a pass catching TE that is better than Chandler. +1 I assume the cap economics also played a part in this. SJ had a pretty significant cap hit for 2014. You can't pay Watkins, Williams and SJ all at the same position. I think this also puts pressure on CJ to perform. He either takes a friendly deal of 4-5M a year or is allowed to play through the year and either gets tagged or walks as a FA. -
Will they take a flyer on Connor Shaw, South Carolina. Strengths are accuracy and avoiding mental mistakes. The guy had 24 TDs to 1 INT for the season.

Bills Trade 5th Round Pick (#149) to Tampa Bay
ganesh replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a very un-pittsburgh way of doing things. Pittsburgh lets the draft come to them and rarely go on a shopping spree. I am glad Whaley is doing what he thinks is best for the Bills to become a playoff teams, but surprised based on where his roots were. -
If EJ doesn't pan out, I dobt Whaley is still calling the shots in the 2016 draft.
-
And the same with Tampa. They still signed a FA to start.

New owner should move the Bills to AFC North

The Ravens biggest rivalry is the Steelers. The two teams hate each other....I just don't see that happening. The Roonies will block it. -
Stevie will be the third WR on the depth chart for the 49ers behind Boldin and Crabtree. They have also drafted Lattimore. I just don't see how he gets enough touches to upgrade that pick. It will remain 4th round.
-
Love everything they have done, except putting 100% faith in EJ. I only wish they had taken a flyer on Aaron Murray or Mettenberger. It is a QB driven league and we have a shortage on quality in that area. +1
-
Agree. Any of the QB prospects have equal or better chance than the scrubs they are picking in Rd 6 and 7. Murray would have been perfect. He is a gamer and a winner. He knows how to win.

Aaron Murray, if he slides to 5th Round
ganesh replied to Mort Hendrickson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills have to take a hard look and check if any of the available talent at other positions are any better than Murray or McArron or Savage and take the flyer in the 4th round. -
List Of Players Still Available

Do you want a 3rd string RB or a potential starting (down the road) in Murray, McAaron or Savage. -

Should Buffalo take a flyer on Tom Savage (QB - Pitt) in Rd 4
ganesh replied to dubs's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Savage or Murray over McCarron. -
But Bledsoe is the only QB in the last 15 years to have had a winning season for this team. The problem with the Bledsoe led team was that they couldn't stop the run.
-
We need to be careful on what we ask for. Donahoe came with the same mojo and sent a 1st rounder for Drew Bledsoe, another 1st rounder for JP Losman and then picked a tweeny WR in Rd 2 in Roscoe Parrish....It definitely got him fired. I am not saying Whaley goes the same way, but he did pay the same steep price for Watkins. The Bills also had the 29th Run Defense last year. Unless and until that gets fixed, they will continue to be the AFC East Doormat.

Man, this team has had some lousy drafts!!
ganesh replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Other than running the bubble screens what did Chan do? Nothing. Equally inept. THe problem is when you have a poor to average QB, the play calling is limited. -
It will be Zack Martin then a RB in round 2
ganesh replied to HelloNewman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And the Bills could easily extend Jackson for another two seasons, if he continues to have the same production. Spiller either takes the 4.5M /year salary or walks. The Bills can then address RB in FA next year or draft one in 2015. There is no rush to get a RB this season. I would rather spend that pick on a potential QB like Murray, Boyd, Mettenberger, or Savage who all should be available in the 3rd round. -

How many games have we won due to Spiller's dominating performance. Also, look at the # of TDs Spiller has scored. Spiller might be a great player but is an average player on an mediocre team. -
Rather than wait until 2015,why not address it in a QB rich draft. At least he would have a year to prepare in case EJ doesn't pan out.

Good article why Bills should NOT trade up this year
ganesh replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
May be potential buyers (who have shown genuine interest directly with the Bills) have already requested the Bills from doing anything to that effect.
