Don't forget about Murray. He was a consensus top-5 pick until his injury. My question is: Why are people so down on Murray. Teams have drafted injured players like McGahee in the 1st round and let them heal. Why wouldn't teams do the same with Murray especially in this rookie-cap-friendly era. If I were the Bills, I will definitely take a flyer on him at the top of the draft.

My only concern is the amount of money they have offered for someone to play as the 4th CB on this team (Robey is already our 3rd CB).

WM’s Post FA Positional Review
ganesh replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The biggest problem with our Running Game is Red Zone offense. The RBs have simply not been able to punch it in. CJ had 2 Rushing TDs and Jackson had 9. Spiller and Jackson combined for ONE receiving TD during the entire season. Craig Urbiks game fell off the cliff after 2012 and was responsible for some of the pass protection issues on the right side. -
The fact that Jacksonville, Oakland have not signed in starting QBs, it is a good chance that there will be a run on the QBs (at least three of them in Bortles, Manziel and Bridgewater) in the Top 8 before the Bills make their pick. With Clowney and Watkins likely to go along with the QBs, the Bills should have their choice of OT to pick. I think in a WR rich draft, the Bills should upgrade the line and then pick a WR in Rd 2 or 3 along with a backup QB in Aaron Murray

The rational is that players with a TE physical requirement are off to NBA where they get guaranteed contracts and less chance for life threatening injury.
-
I thought he was already making 3M per year.
-
You can't sign all of them...We did re-sign Stevie, McKelvin, Wood, Aaron Williams, Kyle Williams. I am sure the Bills will be able to re-sign Dareus, Cordy, Spiller, Gilmore in the upcoming 2-3 years.

Give credit to Peyton. He built that team and gave a lifeline to Brees. Brees was pretty average in his 4 seasons with San Diego.

I'm mad as hell & I'm not gonna take it any more!

And that is why it doesn't make sense to be bitching about Whaley's inaction 90minutes into FA. Many of the guys you mention above are Day 1 FA signings (or at least contacts) and did not work out. The same goes for the FA in the league this year. Some above average talent are being paid big money to turn franchise's around. That is not going to happen. Look at Cleveland...They gave 7M a year average to Whitner who had difficulty getting 4M from the 49ers three seasons ago. I for once am glad that Whaley has brought his PITTSBURGH Principles to Buffalo to stand Pat and do NOTHING on Day 1 of the frenzy. The difference I hope to see with Whaley is to make sure we do plug the holes left by Byrd, Levitre and Chandler unlike last year. If the Bills can sign some mid-level FA including Spikes, it would be a good off season for them. -
Look for him to make his way to Cleveland.

Are the Quarterbacks going to start dropping?
ganesh replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
+1, especially when the coaching staff has clearly told everyone that EJ will be the starter going into training camp. -
And all this will become a non-issue if we have a Franchise QB who can consistently win ball games.

Jairus Byrd [was Jarius Byrd]

There has been no proof to indicate whether they are trying or not trying. They say that you need TWO hands to clap. Everyone is chastising the Bills. However, there is no indication that Byrd wanted to stay in Buffalo. Byrd is a WC guy and I am sure is looking at a WC team to make his home for the next 4-5 years. Probably, a winning franchise is also in his mind. I am sure Byrd would rather go to a team that will pay him 28M in guarantee than the Bills 30, if it is a Warm Weather place and has less Income Tax and is a winning franchise. The Bills while holding the advantage with the Tag know very well that Byrd wants to play somewhere else. The Bills did the right thing and hope that they get a 3rd rounder as a compensation in next years draft. -
Agreed. The Bills made wise decision to invest in the OL (Paying Wood) and DL (Mario Williams as a FA, Kyle Williams as a home grown product). They have to continue to build around this talent. There is no point in burning 10M /year for a Safety. The Bills have other needs and being a small market team need to be wise with their dollars. And to add, the Bills have some talented players coming up for negotiation: Aaron Williams C.J. Spiller Dareus Gilmore Kennedy famously quoted in 1961: Ask what you can do for the country, not what the country can do for you. These players need to first win games for the Buffalo Bills before asking insane contracts. Byrd, I have a feeling, that wanted to get out of Buffalo and used an "Unreasonable" contract request to do so. There is already precedence for this with Peters. Peters played OL and hence there was a chance to get back a good draft pick. Unfortunately, no one would be willing to pay the bills a good draft pick for Byrd. This was a tough situation and in the end I think the Bills did the right thing.

If the Bills sign a FA WR,then I don't see them spending a high draft at that position. They spent a 2nd and 3rd round on WRs last year.

this . It is the biggest problem and doesn't work in the Bills favor. There are teams willing to give him that 30M guaranteed contract. Does he want to play with a team that goes to the playoffs and gives his 30M or for a team that has not been in the playoffs for 14 seasons. -
Forget big WR's with the first pick, draft Eric Ebron

And one who drops the ball at CRITICAL times because he cannot concentrate! -
I don't think he is even the worst QB to don a Bills Uniform. There are a lot more lousy players that have run through the tunnels of RWS.

Schwartz was the HC. Why would you tie the Defensive record on him. It is easy to adapt statistics to everyone's argument. We could easily probably see that the Lions D (under Schwartz as you quote) were better stopping the run than any of the Bills past 4 years defense!!!. I believe the Pettine loss is bad for this team from a continuity perspective, but the Bills couldn't do much about it. They have to move on and Schwartz gives them a credible DC who ran an excellent program back in Tennessee as a DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR.

Kiko,Wood are all 1st/2nd round picks. My point (may be not explicit) was that the Bills have done nothing with the later round picks that have received in trades. -
I prefer paying Byrd 8M and losing him next season to getting the 83rd pick in this years draft. That is just common sense. The Bills are already paying heavily for Mario Williams, Kyle Williams and Dareus on the OL. Adding Byrd to the mix probably maximizes their cap hit for the defense. They have to start building the offensive weapons on the roster. There is jut not much talent on that side.

Bills Projected at $25 Million Under the Cap

I thought Nate Clements got close to a 8M contract from the 49 ers about 6 years ago.
