The Bills always try to go against the Norm and then burn themselves. Teams have stopped drafting RBs in the Top 15 unless it is a Peterson and yet we have spent three first round and a 2nd round pick in a decade on RBs. They jumped up to pick McCargo, TJ, Losman etc when no one was rushing to get them, especially all those lost draft picks.
If the Bills stick to their board and build from the trenches and get a QB, they have a chance.
Murray is not going to start right away. However, if EJ falters, he could be a good insurance policy. He has that "Leadership" skill to rally everyone around him. For some reason, the EJ story is turning out to be like the Losman saga....Extremely good guys, can throw the ball downfield, but have no presence in the pocket.
ESPN has the Murray @ Gruden QB Camp. Great player. I hope the Bills take a flyer on him....Just threw a 50+ yard pass from his end zone for a TD....That was his 100th TD to boot.
The guy talks about Computer Science Algorithms etc. Might be the Steal of this draft.
He is a NATURAL LEADER!
Don't forget about Murray. He was a consensus top-5 pick until his injury.
My question is: Why are people so down on Murray. Teams have drafted injured players like McGahee in the 1st round and let them heal. Why wouldn't teams do the same with Murray especially in this rookie-cap-friendly era.
If I were the Bills, I will definitely take a flyer on him at the top of the draft.
The biggest problem with our Running Game is Red Zone offense. The RBs have simply not been able to punch it in. CJ had 2 Rushing TDs and Jackson had 9. Spiller and Jackson combined for ONE receiving TD during the entire season.
Craig Urbiks game fell off the cliff after 2012 and was responsible for some of the pass protection issues on the right side.
The fact that Jacksonville, Oakland have not signed in starting QBs, it is a good chance that there will be a run on the QBs (at least three of them in Bortles, Manziel and Bridgewater) in the Top 8 before the Bills make their pick. With Clowney and Watkins likely to go along with the QBs, the Bills should have their choice of OT to pick. I think in a WR rich draft, the Bills should upgrade the line and then pick a WR in Rd 2 or 3 along with a backup QB in Aaron Murray
The rational is that players with a TE physical requirement are off to NBA where they get guaranteed contracts and less chance for life threatening injury.
You can't sign all of them...We did re-sign Stevie, McKelvin, Wood, Aaron Williams, Kyle Williams. I am sure the Bills will be able to re-sign Dareus, Cordy, Spiller, Gilmore in the upcoming 2-3 years.
And that is why it doesn't make sense to be bitching about Whaley's inaction 90minutes into FA. Many of the guys you mention above are Day 1 FA signings (or at least contacts) and did not work out. The same goes for the FA in the league this year. Some above average talent are being paid big money to turn franchise's around. That is not going to happen. Look at Cleveland...They gave 7M a year average to Whitner who had difficulty getting 4M from the 49ers three seasons ago. I for once am glad that Whaley has brought his PITTSBURGH Principles to Buffalo to stand Pat and do NOTHING on Day 1 of the frenzy. The difference I hope to see with Whaley is to make sure we do plug the holes left by Byrd, Levitre and Chandler unlike last year. If the Bills can sign some mid-level FA including Spikes, it would be a good off season for them.
