Houston comeback game only sold 76,000. In the minds of the Toronto apologists this means that winning does not translate to more ticket sales.

Nope. I think that qualifies as quadrupling down.

He thinks RWS is no advantage over Toronto, and has been doubling (tripling?) down on that stupidity all week.

Lost Facts in all the Toronto Series Hyperbole
QCity replied to JM57's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It makes the Buffalo market less attractive. It's clearly evident that it's only a temporary money grab for the team, and a way for Rogers to position itself as a potential buyer. We now know that the people of Toronto will never root for a team from a different city (this could be drastically different if it were their own team). This money grab has no long term future, the only question is - will it end next year or will we have to suffer for the remaining 4 games there? Do you honestly think a prospective buyer of this team would believe that this series has any legs past the current deal?? If the next owner is a "financial shark" that is only interested in the bottom line, then the team is 100% gone and the debacle that is the Toronto series will have nothing to do with it. The Buffalo market will always be handicapped in terms of luxury box sales and corporate seating, and this has become the big money maker for owners over the past decade. However, I'm quite certain Toronto companies haven't started buying up our suites. What's keeping people people out of the seats is a culture of losing and that fact that ownership places financial goals above winning. There are college kids out there that can't remember a playoff game - this organization has literally lost a generation of fans. This team hasn't been over .500 in a decade, it's a miracle that any games sellout. "Win and the games will sell" is the mantra - but do you not see the folly in attempting to be competitive while at the same time selling away home games? Insular and narrow-minded? You might want to take a glace in the mirror, because you are simply parroting Mr. Brandon. -
Last year at this time Geno Smith was a lock to go #1 and there was no way Manti Te'o would drop to us. It's a bit early...just sayin'

The Margin of Error -- and Success -- is Razor Thin
QCity replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No margin for error in the NFL -
Pete Rozelle banned it back in 1960 - he wants teams making lots and lots of $$$$$$$$. Article V, Section 4 of the NFL constitution, the “Green Bay Rule,” says that “charitable organizations and/or corporations not organized for profit and not now a member of the league may not hold membership in the National Football League.” The right way? The Green Bay way

Lost Facts in all the Toronto Series Hyperbole

Let me see if I got this straight - if they cut the Toronto series off and we revert to playing 8 home games at the Ralph, that will open the door to move the team to LA in 2020? I think you Toronto apologists have been brainwashed. -
I get your point. I never saw us beating Tampa or NE on the road anyways (I wasn't expecting a playoff run - winning 6 in a row was ludicrous forum-talk). But just because we can't beat a 2-9 team on a neutral site doesn't justify playing that team on a neutral site. And I'm being generous with the term "neutral."

That quote sums up this thread. Hey guys, stop blaming the stadium for the loss, but oh by the way if we didn't play in that stadium we would have won.
-
If we were a dominant team with a Hall of fame QB like Manning or Brady then no. But we're a team that's been trying to turn the corner for over a decade, and in our case it's a huge disadvantage (1-5 record). The Pats, Fins, and Jets get 8 home games. We get 7. Every other GM in the league can stand up and say "Our organization is 100% committed to winning first and foremost" Our front office can never say that. As a matter of fact, they have to carefully skirt that issue - lest one of our local scribes will stand up and call them on it. We sell a home game and put profit ahead of our commitment to winning, and that's a fact (however sad it is).

I never said the Toronto game was preventing us from the playoffs this year. I never thought for a second we were going to the playoffs this year.
-
It sure doesn't help. Maybe I should start a thread titled "Who wants to apologize to Russ Brandon?" We could all congratulate him on the fine job he is doing expanding our regional base.

We are the best NFL fanbase!!!

Every team has the "best" fans. This thread reads like a mother reassuring her insecure children that they are beautiful. I'll give you that. -
It's a Hail Mary from someone about to lose an argument.

If "Pittsburgh" EJ shows up over these last 5 games they will.. Saying there's zero chance just makes you look silly. This isn't the old CBA where a team became tied-down by a 1st round contract. He never said that. You asked for someone to show you a particular situation and he did.
-
I guess fans have varying definitions for "rebuilding year." You want to see a rebuilding team? Watch the Sabres. That's what a rebuild looks like. Tear the team down and, you know, re-build it. None of that is happening with the Bills. This year is all about finding our QB. I've said this before - this team is a QB away from being a Wildcard playoff team. And not an elite QB like Manning or Brees either. Put a game manager like Alex Smith on this team and we are 7-4 right now, there would be a huge migration heading north this week for the game, and the Dec Miami game is sold out. Maybe that happens if EJ doesn't get hurt? We'll never know. These last 5 games are going to tell us if we have to draft another QB next year.
-
Well it's really not possible to be mathematically eliminated before November so that doesn't say much. I will agree with most of the sentiment in this thread, it's not a rebuilding year but more of a test to see if we have our future QB. I don't see us beating a feisty Tampa team on the road nor the Patriots, who will need the final game for home-field advantage. A 7-9 record with EJ going 6-5 would be a sign that things are moving in the right direction.
