  1. There will never be a metric that accurately gauges a QB's performance. There are just too many variables involved. In the past we've pointed out how silly QBR is, and that's supposed to be an improved model. Ironically, even with all the new sports metrics and analytics out today, the old tried-and-true QB rating may still be the best measuring stick. There sill isn't a metric that takes pre-snap reads into account. If a QB recognizes a hole in a defensive formation, audibles to a draw play, and that draw play results in a easy 15-yd TD run up the middle -- how does it effect his rating? It doesn't, and although the QB didn't run the ball, he played a vital part in scoring points. It's why the "eye test" will always reign supreme, although that depends greatly on how well those eyes are honed.
  2. Bostic is probably best known for his hit on Bridgewater in the Sugar Bowl. I always thought he was going to be a good LB, but he couldn't win a starting job so...? Mayo might be done.
  3. While watching I kept thinking how much it must suck to have Philbin as your coach. He looked completely defeated by the end of the 1st quarter.
  4. I have to ask what film you guys were watching? Through the first 3 quarters the Pats brought 5 or more around 40% of the time. They often showed fronts with 5-8 players on the line. Jamie Collins came through the A-gap unblocked about 3 times I think. They had 4 DB's on the field for the majority of the snaps. TT's longest completion through the first 3 quarters was 11 yards. Contrast that to the final 4 drives, where over 20 plays they brought 5 or more only 3 times (around 15%). They played nickel the majority of the time and it looked like everyone in the secondary took 1-2 steps back. The change in defense was quite blatant, as it should be when you are leading 37-13. "Garbage time" is this week's trigger phrase for those that want to pretend that we didn't just get our asses kicked.
  5. Division road games are are rough. Miami 28 Bills 24
  6. par·a·digm /perəˌdīm/ noun 1. Business parlance that rose to prominence in the 1990's; terminology often used to distract in lieu of providing actual substance. "Jack's business model was a complete nonstarter, so he called it a paradigm instead in an attempt to garner support."
  7. Could upgrade the Perry Projects by delicately converting them into parking lots.
  8. AW got blown up by an ex-teammate and just spiraled out of control from that point on. Keep it together, man!
  9. Because Dallas (or any team for that matter) still has to get a body back in return, and it likely was a deal breaker if we didn't throw it in. It's almost impossible to tell where the two teams will be in the standings after 2016 and how strong or weak the back end of the 2017 draft will be. If the later rounds are strong, there is a better chance that those two picks could be a wash. If it's weak, that extra 7th makes for good currency to possibly move around.
  10. It certainly is not.
  11. Surrounding Luck with over-the-hill players like Gore and A.Johnson is puzzling. Their OL looks like a hot mess as well.
  12. Everything about him looks very promising.
  13. While watching our front four try (and fail) to generate pressure I couldn't help but have flashbacks of Wannstedt. It was honestly that bad of a game plan. Way too much passing on 1st down, especially in the 1st half when the game was still close. You could make a case for the 2009 Jets. Their LB core was far superior to ours and they had the best corner in the game. They also had an All-Pro NT (Jenkins) and Ellis was no slouch either.
  14. I think the large portion of humble pie the fanbase just ate is a great reality check, and will also be a positive down the road. In the span of one week we went from the darling underdogs to acting like the boorish loud-mouth drunk in the bar. I mean really, we put up a billboard calling their QB a crybaby? How old are these people? I think the guy from Guinness left before the 1st quarter was over.
  15. Take away his first read, and he doesn't look like an NFL passer. He (and the rest of the offense) padded their stats in the 4th Q when they were down by 24 pts. He's not the reason we lost, and he's still the best QB on the roster, but this should pump the brakes on all the silly Russell Wilson comparisons that were being whispered around here.
  16. Bills 27 Pats 21 Pats defense is looking soft without WIlfork, Browner and Revis. Mayo looks to be still hurting too, as he only played 11 snaps last week.
  17. Bill Burr is the man, great delivery.
  18. If you're joking, that's hysterical. If you're serious, it's even funnier.
  19. I was impressed by the tackling, particularly the secondary -- which suffocated their receivers after the catch. As we seen before when Pettine was here, Robey is tailor-made to play nickel in this D. 11 penalties for 113 yard? Ouch. Better clean that up fast.
  20. 24-21 Bills. Colts D is soft. We're built to beat this type of team.
  21. They still don't show the replays from all angles like broadcast TV, especially if it's a controversial call.
  22. Keep in mind that LeBeau is no longer with the Steelers, and this is their first year transitioning to a Cover-2. There's going to be a lot of growing pains. Another reason why that Steelers preseason game was fool's gold for those that think we have 3 starting caliber QB's on this roster. I was wondering why Jerod Mayo was invisible last night, then I read today that he only played 11 snaps. Very interesting, especially for a player that was considered to be a vital component of their run defense this year with Wilfork gone.
  23. Both those defenses looked soft.
  24. Watching Vince Wilfork in the field goal kicking competition was entertaining.
  25. There are some real gems in there. My favorite: This is an excellent example of how stats belie what's actually happening on the field. People never even saw him play for the Jets, but they heard he tallied 6 sacks, and proceeded to freak out. I saw those sacks. They were all the product of scheming and/or coverage, and any warm-bodied 2nd string LB could have done the same.
