I posted last year when people where cranking on Geno Smith when he played horrible that at least he was always throwing (or trying to) throw the ball down field. I thought that was much better for his long term growth than Marrone keeping EJ's play ulltra conservative. Hopefully EJ wins the QB spot, plays the position the way he is supposed too without fear of getting yanked over a bad play, and just continues to grow all season. I think if Rex sees progress in EJ he will allow him to just be the guy. Rex is that type of coach.

Tyrod is 6'1" 210lbs. Hardly scatback, waterbug. He is fast 4.4 and labeled as quick which is different than fast. EJ is fast especially for a big man but I would not say he is quick. Cassel is none of the above.

I truly believe the Whaley / Rex conversation went something like this: Whaley: I really believe that EJ can make it and that Marone did not give him a fair shot. Rex: Okay, I will give him a fair shot. If he makes it, we all look good, if not, he will be on the bench or gone. I have to play the guy that will win now. Whaley: That's fair, sounds good to me. Rex: Cool. Rex loses nothing by EJ succeeding or failing. Rex and Whaley are not competing for each other's power. Marone was always competing for Whaley's power. Marrone lost power over Whaley if EJ made it.

I think Rex stated exactly what will happen. The team is in a win now mode and he is going with the guy that will win now and he will not start someone who can "develop". QBs rankings right now are 1) Cassel 2) Taylor 3) EJ. EJ is now battling Sims for the number 3 spot. He was guaranteed to beat out Tuel. I'm not so sure about Sims....

It will not be a problem to sign Dareus and Gilmore, then Glenn and Woods in 2016, and Sammy in 2017. 2015 is Frdeddy's swan song, hello Karlos the Jackal. The cap goes up $10M in 2016 & again in 2017. In 2016 a rehabilitated Percy Harvin signs back with Seattle for 5 years. I can't see Mario here after 2017. He will either retire or take a big pay cut / restructure. Kyle & Leodis retire after 2017, as does Corey Graham, Manny Lawson and maybe Eric Wood. Lawson has ten years in the league already. Shady has two to three good years left. Tons of room for cuts, retirees and restructuring. In 2017 Incognito is banned from the league as he actually rips somebody's head off and sh1ts down their throat. He's been wanting to do that for a while now. There is plenty of room to retain Dareus, Gilmore, Glenn, Woods, and Sammy. How good will the team be is anyone's guess.

Why do most people believe a QB either has it or not and he cannot improve from year to year? Most offensive linemen and CBs don't really get it until their third year. Good RBs and WRs rarely don't start to produce till their second and third years. Same for Safeties, LBs and DL. Let's give EJ a chance and reduce the fan pressure. He didn't draft himself in the first round. The best thing for this team is if he can beat out Cassel and Taylor.

What if EJ, Tyrod & Matt all get hurt in the preseason and we win with Jeff Tuel at QB. Tuel wins every game he plays, kind of the reverse of his career so far where he's lost every game he has played. Things have a way of evening out.

If we have to platoon McCoy next year, why did we trade for him?

We had Freddy but spent a first round pick on Lynch. We had Freddy and Lynch but spent a first round pick on Spiller. So we trade a second round pick (who should have been DROY) for a talented back. However McCoy has a lot of miles, an awful lot of miles but we all ignore this in the discussion because it is uncomfortable or something? We had a great LT in Peters then overpaid for two FA's OL busts and never took care of Peters. So we let Peters and two first round RBs go and get next to nothing in return. Our OL never recovered. Again this year the OL is a big question mark. The team is selling the Kool Aid that they are all in on this year's third round pick and hope that last year's seventh round pick Henderson or second round pick Kuondijo can come through. The McCoy trade will be a good move only if the OL is good, If not we are in for another long season. Final evaluation of the trade will depend on how long McCoy lasts. I expect him to be in serious decline in his third year here.
