Still the key moment is going to be how his body responds to being taken off the ventilator and how much it can operate on its own and his neurological functioning as they bring him out of sedation. Him needing less oxygen is optimistic about his bodies ability to operate on its own though

I’m a theist but I’m a firm believer that positive thoughts and hopes have a tangible impact on the world, and I’m a huge believer that you find your faith in humanity and the world in any way you can, and if this helps you find that through religion, then I’m joyful for you

My feeling/guess is we won’t know anything until tomorrow outside of “continues to show normal heart beat while breathing through ventilator under sedation”. They won’t know what kind of damage he suffered to his brain and other organs due to lack of oxygen until they pull him off the ventilator and sedation, which probably won’t happen until tomorrow. Just won’t know anything about what his health is gonna be until then. It’s awful to wait, I’m just glad his family is there, that his family has support, this his teammates have each other, and we fans have an outlet and community here as well as we wait. That’s all we can do. Wait and pray and hope and offer strength. It ***** sucks

Great little thread. Bills really do have great beat writers, that know the assignment is to bring out the stories of who the players are, and the storylines of these games, while understanding and even celebrating that these are human beings that they cover

I’m 43. A life long sports nut who immigrated to Buffalo at 2, lived upstate NY till 5th grade, before moving to PA and eventually going to Penn State. I bleed sports and where I’m most passionate along with just having empathy for my fellow humans. I have NEVER felt this low around sports in my life, and I hope I never will. No loss comes even remotely close to this. I think perhaps it’s the reminder of the reality that I use sports to escape from that partially makes it so upsetting, along with the natural empathy one has for the players and team you passionately root for, and remembering the feel of what it’s like to be in a football locker room for 4 years in HS

A few years ago my mom found out she had MAJOR blockages across 3 arteries (she felt a bit of chest pain and went in for a check up), and needed major, almost immediate heart surgery. They waited i think 48 hours to get her ready. Entire family plus much extended family flew in for the hospital, and then waited an agonizing 8 hours. And then the Doctor said she came through the surgery well. and then we all went out for Thai and EVERYONE was in great mood. Just desperately hoping that Damar’s family and his teammates get this kind of uplifting update, which allow them a much easier time to process all the trauma of witnessing this.

So as a PSU alum/fanatic I remember Damar as a recruit in I think 2016. It’s James Franklin and Urban Meyer trying to pull this kid out of Pittsburgh. Both schools wanted him. But nah, Damar wanted to lift up his hometown. Just the kind of kid he was. He knew he would have had more big moments with OSU or PSU, but he just didn’t care about that as much as he cared about his city. You read nothing but great things about him too. You didn’t want him just because he was a stud safety, but because you knew he’d represent the program really well and he’d add big value to the locker room. So glad he ended up with the Bills. Get better, and get back to that brotherhood and family, Damar.

He’s got an agent and friends as well. It’ll be fine. meanwhile, when Damar sees those donations, he’ll know that a lot of people were supporting him during his time of need, and hopefully take strength from that. Beauty begets beauty
