Get him out of the standard drop once in a while and roll him out of the pocket? We have the personnel (Watkins) to add a jet sweep to the playbook. We have several players that can be effective with bubble screens and can get creative in space (Watkins, Spiller, Goodwin). Reverses and other misdirection (we have lots of speed on this team). A lot of these style of plays take pressure off of Manuel.

When Hackett started off last year in the booth he would relay the play call to Marrone to his headset who would then relay it to Manuel on the field. I believe the same thing is happening here, the only difference being that Hackett is on the sideline this year.

Very rough! The troubling thing is I don't see it dramatically improving even with improved QB play from Manuel. The offensive line is also a major issue now when it comes to the red zone. It's been consistently bad week in and week out even when Manuel has been described as "playing well".

The Buffalo Bills are 8th, yes EIGHTH, in red zone scoring attempts/game with 4 BUT are tied for LAST in the NFL with a TD red zone scoring % of 33.3%. For perspective their 2013 red zone td % was 47.73%.

I believe Hackett calls the plays and Marrone relays them to Manuels helmet. But it doesn't matter, horrible play calling all around that doesn't take advantage of a mobile quartertback that is being pressured all day. I don't think Hackett or Marrone ever heard of plays that are designed around rollouts and bootlegs. I hated the fact today that they came out of the game passing. Today was the day they needed to pound the ball and roll him out of the pocket.

The problem isn't the refs. It's our QB, offensive line, defensive backs and coaching staff.

I took most people until today that Manuel is terrible? Whaley's Nix 16th overall pick in the 2013 draft and then Whaley trades up and cripples the franchise more to get a WR. The heat should begin to fall on Whaley. This mess will fall on him. Pegula needs to clean house.

You know when someone is a great player (or really bad) when there is no polarity in the opinions on that player. He sure was a fun player to watch.

I don't know how much of that can change with the new regime. My personal opinion of McKelvin is that he is a below average CB in the NFL and Gilmore is just average. Clements I would rank as elite during his time in Buffalo and Winfield as an above average (#1 CB). Also in terms of the secondary and the new regime they didn't re-sign Byrd who was a pro bowl caliber safety.

Great player. Wish he was a Bill longer. The Bills have had a tendency NOT to re-sign their drafted CB's that have played very well during their initial contract.

I know there was a lot of discussion with this after the game. Marrone is currently on with Howard and Jeremy and was asked about the Chargers "pick plays". He said they were NOT penalties and there wasn't anything illegal about it. This should bring final perspective to this.

The author went through the chargers game and I didn't see anything about Gilmore missing tackles in open space against the run and pass, with the one grabbing a face mask and getting hurt all in the same play? That is a play that should analyzed in detail. I am curious about his technique actually and if it is contributing to some of his injuries?
