  1. Thank goodness the herp derp can finally end on this topic.
  2. I agree with this in its entirety.
  3. Probably. They were on the field I think the most in the NFL last year and they were top 5 in the league at plays and yards/drive. That is a telling stat. This is why the casual observers hate Pettine. They just see the bulk stats.
  4. Actually the Bills defense was 4th best in the league at only allowing 5.34 plays/drive. They were getting the ball back to the offense at an incredible rate. The whole no huddle thing last year really skews what you see on television. The Bills defense was also #1 last year in only allowing 25.78 yards/drive. That is incredible!
  5. Good work. Now when we have the same sample size at the end of the year we can judge who had the better year. Pettines overall defensive metrics was somewhere in the top 10.
  6. By the end of the year, which defense will be better "Schwartz or Pettine" will be largely determined by which one minimized the big passing plays. So far both defenses are giving up at least 2 big plays a game and they haven't been tested with Brady, Stafford, Manning and Rodgers yet.
  7. The biggest issue I had with Pettines defense last year was giving up HUGE plays on 3rd and long. But that's fixable with better players in the secondary. Same thing with the run game and the Bills addressed that with changes in their personnel.
  8. I have already done the work and know the proper conclusion.
  9. If you are too stubborn to accept this fact than I don't know what to say. But good work posting yards per attempt with the pass defense now what are the rest of the metrics that show yards/attempt?
  10. Those stats can lead to improper conclusions when looking at them at face value. It gets a grade of F.
  11. You are falling in the trap with bad analytical conclusions since the Bills ran a very high paced no huddle last year and they are NOT doing that this year leading the defense to playing less possessions/plays. This will SKEW the yards/game leading to improper comparisons. Now the question is how many less possessions has the defense played because of this important fact? Perhaps a better and more accurate comparison without doing that is looking at yards/attempt. No, a more accurate way to look at it is what I posted in the above. The fact they ran no huddle last year and they are not in 2014 is an issue you MUST address when looking at the analytics of it.
  12. I almost spit out my coffee at the computer screen after reading this.
  13. The Cowboys wouldn't want him on their team. He wouldn't sniff their roster if they are benching a high first round pick that has only been in the league 3 years. McKelvin has about 5 years of poor play under his belt.
  14. What were the metrics with Pettines defense in Buffalo over a larger sample of 16 games last year?
  15. Were talking about the Bills roster and Mike Pettine here. Please review the thread and get back to me.
  16. Instead of getting gashed in the run game we are getting gashed in the passing game. Oh well. It seems like his defense leaves a lot of underneath stuff to bend but not break (but our secondary is still giving up huge plays every game).
  17. Which CB will be responsible for covering Andre Johnson the majority of the game?
  18. "If Fitz beats us on sunday what will you do" I will do what I try to do every Sunday after a Bills game and that is enjoy the late afternoon and evening games.
  19. Just another example of the lack of in-game management. I also didn't like his clock management and lack of situational awareness at the end of the 1st half.
  20. For sure the Run D has improved dramatically but the defense is getting abused underneath in the passing game quite frequently and still are giving up 1 or 2 big passing plays a game. Unfortunately the run offense has fallen quite dramatically from what it was last year at this point as well.
  21. Isn't that what happened with the WR coach Hilliard last year?
  22. One of the smartest positional coaches in National Football League. He has done a brilliant job in SD and one of the reason Rivers has stepped up his game to MVP calibre play over the last year.
  23. Absolutely NOT!
  24. For sure, he's been very good for a long time but I'm talking about MVP hype. IMO Rivers should have been the MVP last year.
  25. Miami is going to be mediocre to bad team by the end of the year, I will be surprised if Chicago makes the playoffs and the Chargers are BY FAR the best team the Bills played to date. Casual football fans and the media are going to have Phillip Rivers as the flavor of the year by week 8 in which they will be about a year too late in their assessment.
