  1. Jets fans are so funny, from TheGangGreen: "If we don't resign fitz next season is not <beep>. We'd end up with RG3 or Kaep." Like winding up with RG3, who's a FA and can choose whichever team he wants, or Kaep, who isn't even available at this point, is a foregone conclusion.
  2. I don't think you quite understand Rex Ryan's system or scheme. His front is multiple. Meaning sometimes it's two-gap alignment and sometimes its one-gap alignment. Sometimes, it's both, where the NT has two-gap responsibility and the DE has one-gap. It isn't one thing all the time. They started the season, on the opening play, in a 4-3 under with one-gap alignment. Mario Williams had plenty of one-gap alignment where he was asked to rush the passer and didn't get home. The guy quit. I don't know why you think posting quotes from articles proves your point and I hope you understand that it is possible that the defense disappointed AND Mario Williams quit.
  3. As a massive Harold Ramis fan and a fan of Ghostbusters I never really had a lot of hope for this film but after seeing that trailer I feel even worse about it. Hate the CGI ghosts. I think it would have been better if they made this as a sequel and not a reboot.
  4. Except Ryan doesn't run a two-gap exclusive system. This gets said all the time with very little understanding of it. There are multiple fronts in his system and yes some players have two-gap reaponosbilty and some times they have on-gap reaponosbilty. In 2009 and 2010, with players like DeVito, Ellis, Pouha and Jenkins, who aren't premium talent, they ran mostly two-gap alignment. When Rex has had good DL like Richardson, Wilkerson and Ngata he's allowed them to "freelance" and have one-gap assignments. Even last year they ran a 4-3 under with one-gap assignments some of the time, until Kyle got hurt. It depends on the called DL alignment. Sometimes it's two-gap, sometimes it's one gap. Towards the back end of the season, with all the injuries it became more two-gap.
  5. This is a ridiculously incorrect statement. Hughes and Dareus fit the scheme perfectly. Hughes is the prototypical Rush End/LB in Rex's scheme and Dareus, when playing the 5-tech DE, is perfect for the scheme too. The problem with Dareus was when Kyle went down, Rex moved him to a 0-tech NT. They'll go searching for a NT in the offseason.
  6. Except the Chargers case, is completely different. I don't know why people keep pointing to this as if it's some smoking gun. I don't think people really understand what happened in that incident, so lets try this again. During a Monday Night game, a Chargers ball boy brought a towel onto the field to dry a ball. This is completely against normal procedure and when an official noticed the ball boy do it, he asked to see that towel. The ball boy and Chargers employees on the sidelines refused. The official thought he possibly had something illegal on the towel, like Stickum, or that the ball boy may have had something in his pocket. The NFL was notified and told the Chargers they would be investigated. The Chargers fully complied and allowed the NFL to investigate both the ball boy AND the team equipment. The NFL investigated it for 3 weeks and concluded that their was no Stickum on the towel and that the ball boy wasn't hiding stickum. They even said they could keep using the same towels for the rest of 2012. They did fine them for the ball boy not complying with the official. So, it wasn't equipment tampering. How is that at all a precedent for a NFL player, coordinating with the ball boys of their own team, to deflate their balls below the set limit by the NFL, then when questioned about it, not cooperate, lie and destroy evidence?
  7. That's the part that annoys me the most, that he quit.
  8. The problem I have with that was his gap responsibility, 2-gap, mostly came in obvious running situation. When it was obvious passing situations Rex lines up his DE and edge guys with 1-gap reasponsibility unless he's doing a blitz. Mario still had plenty of times where he was lined up with 1-gap responsibilities. Rex does allows his players to "freelance" a bit and line up either 1 or 2 gap responsibility. Mo Wilkerson thrived when he would freelance. It happens a lot more when the defense is in more of a 4-3 under.
  9. What? They aren't "essentially giving Clay a fully guaranteed contract". The guaranteed money doesn't change at all and you seem like you don't understand what dead money is. Dead money is the total amount of money they have paid a player plus remaining guaranteed money minus cap hit. What does that have to do with Clay's guaranteed money, which he was already going to get? Does it make it more likely he is going to be on the roster because of how the contract is spread out? Sure, but he's 27, still in his prime and the cap has been increasing every year so I don't see what the big deal is.
  10. as Jauronimo said, if he plays like he did last year or the Bills use him like they did last year there is no right price.
  11. Really? There have been quite a few things Rob has done that would raise eyebrows most places. -TMZ caught him making a nice remark about an Asian Guy, saying "I thought these guys only cook fried rice" and calling him "Leslie Chow" -He was caught promoting a Porn Actress, with Patriots** gear on. For which he had to write a formal apology to the organization. -He was allegedly caught in a picture getting a kiss from a 16 year old.
  12. Oh definitely, no arguing that. And Rex failed last season, no arguing that either. EDIT: I guess we will see if this offseason, Rex can shape the roster more to his scheme.
  13. And prior coming to the Bills Jim Schwartz hadn't fielded a good defense in more than 3 years. Not even a top 10 defense. Did that mean that Jim Schwartz had "failed to keep up with the evolution of offenses"? No, that can't be true because Schwartz came to Buffalo and fielded a very good defense. It just so happens that Buffalo had the exact pieces to run a Jim Schwartz defense.
  14. Oh he definitely failed last season and can be judged on that. And as you say if the defense doesn't improve next season it will be a trend.
  15. Actually it's pretty easy to somewhat refute Points Per Game with advanced statistics. If a really good defense has a horrible offense thy will be on the field a lot more than a team with an average offense and an average defense. Great defenses, can overcome for the most part a horrible offense. But good and very good defenses are going to get tired. Which defense is better, the one that stops an offense 3 out of 12 times or the one that's stops it 2 out of 6 times? I find points per drive and scoring percentage per drive are a little better than overall PPG. Take for example 2012, where the Jets were ranked 20th in PPG, well they were 8th in points per drive and 10th in scoring percentage per drive. In 2011 they were even better, the Jets defense was 5th in points per drive and 7th in scoring percentage. It's not always just one statistic that defines a defense and how good they are. It's a cumulation of many.
  16. Idk about Long, he has had durability issues and is going to be 31 next month. I think someone will offer him way too much money anyways.
  17. What about the 3rd officer, didn't he wait until Tuesday?
  18. And with what McCoys attorney has said, that he was sober and the cops were not, I think the DA knows that McCoys attorney is going to "go to town" on those 3 cops.
  19. I know this was talked about earlier in the thread but I'm starting to wonder if this officers did in fact order the bottles of champagne in Shady's or someone in his party's name. It would explain some things, like why they took so long to report it because they knew they did something wrong. We aren't sure what time Shady and his party showed up to this place but maybe they had just showed up, it would explain him being sober at the point, and the officers thought they could slip an order in quickly and hope they wouldn't notice.
  20. Good luck., I just had to deal with flight problems coming back from skiing in the French Alps. Got to the airport in Chambery for our return flight home and there was low cloud and rain coming down. Not a a good sign. There's a flight before ours that wasn't able to land so was diverted to Lyon. When that happened I knew that our flight was going to be diverted, which it was. They had all the passengers that were suppose to be on that first flight leave the departure lounge, recollect their bags and get on a bus to Lyon, which is like an hour away. So, assumed that this was going to happen to out flight. So they tell us to leave the departure lounge and collect our bags at arrivals, which we all started to do. When we got to arrivals there seemed to be A LOT of confusion. In the mean time the weather had seemed to clear up and another plane was able to land. After everyone collected their luggage a rep for the airline come over and said that the pilot for our flight was going to fly the plane back to Chambery and land because other planes were now able to. This meant everyone had to recheck all of our luggage and go through security, again. Fast forward to getting back through security and as we do, we find out that the plane still hasn't landed. Apparently he attempted one landing and couldn't do it so took off and went towards a different airport, one that was 4 hours away, and landed there. It was now going on 6pm, we had been at the airport since 7am and a lot of people were getting upset. The word from the rep from the airline was that the pilot was refusing to do anything until there was a proper plan in place. It took the airline about another hour and half to decide that we would be put up in a hotel for the night. This meant going back through arrivals and collecting luggage, again. We then had to get on a bus that would take us to a hotel that had enough rooms for everyone on the plane. Of course the bus took us to the wrong hotel first, after we had all started to unload, then when we arrived at our correct hotel the airline was not willing to provide a hot meal for dinner. They tried to give us sandwiches. It was now 10pm at this point. We still hadn't heard what the plan was for our morning flight. By 11:30 the airline had decided we were going to fly out of Geneva airport in Switzerland, which was only an hour away. In the morning, we all got back on the buses, drove to Geneva and went through the process again. This time a guy who was on our flight, checked in for the flight, but decided he didn't want to go to where this flight was going. So he showed up at a different gate, while everyone was boarding our plane, and demanded to be let on this other flight. The airline, for some ridiculous reason, decided to allow this guy to fly on this other flight. This meant another delay because his bag had been put onto our plane and a bag can't fly without a passenger, apparently. Anyways, after that the flight went on as normal. Only ended up getting $60 off our next flights, for all of that.
  21. I don't know how good the experience would be watching at the stadium so I'm not sure I would be willing to fork over whatever money necessary to be there.
  22. You've made this statement a couple times, about two-gap, and I'm not quite sure you understand it. Yes, Ryan uses some two-gap scheme but that happens mostly in his base 4-3 or 3-4 fronts. This is purposeful, he's trying to stop the run and hopes his LBs can make the plays. Even still in his base 4-3 under, which Mario was lined up in multiple times, he was playing in 9-tech with the SAM Linebacker playing the other 9-tech. Those are single-gap responsibilities. Saying all that, all of this changes when Ryan goes to a nickel package. He'll move the NT to a 1-gap and move the DE to a 3-tech with 1-gap responsibility. He then puts in edge rushers at 9-tech. Either everyone rushes the passer or a LB blitzes and an edge guy drops off or they blitz and every keeps rushing. His scheme is multiple it is never just one thing. Is 2-gap important to Rex Ryan? Sure, it is but guys like Wilkerson, Richardson, Pyrce and Ngata have done well as rushers by Rex being multiple and allowing a shaded alignment. EDIT: Did it bother Williams playing multiple fronts? Maybe. Maybe he just wanted to play his RDE spot and that was it. Is that an excuse for him not putting forth the required effort or buying into the scheme? IMO, no it's not. He had his opportunities to pin back his ears and rush the passer and he didn't get home enough.
  23. Hyperbole much? This thread is about Mario Williams and I haven't read anywhere in it that the 2015 Bills defense failed because and only because of Mario Williams. I realize that you have a strong opinion on why you believe the defense failed but so far in this thread you have claimed that the rest of us don't "get it" if we criticize Mario's play and that we've stuck our heads in the sand. Now, the majority of fans blame Mario for the failures of the defense? I think if you read, you'll find that some fans are blaming Mario himself for the failure of his own season. Not the defense. The defense could have failed, which it did at times, and Mario could have failed himself as well. It's possible to be critical with Mario's play and also believe Rex Ryan got it wrong in 2015.
  24. Where did I say he can't complain? Sure he can complain all the he wants but I'd still expect effort to be put forward. Was Watkins criticized ever for giving up on plays? And yes the Bills are losing talent with Mario, but they are only losing potential talent. The talent on the field that Mario put forward is easily replaceable.
