  1. Yea but is Doug Marrone the favorite for any job? I could of sworn he got the Jets job last offseason...
  2. It's simple really. We are talking offense, not the entire team. Doug Marrone had absolutely ZERO say in how the defense was run. He left that up to Schwartz. The offense regressed overall going from 19th in 2013 to 26th in 2014 in total yards(400 yards less). They rushed for 900 hard yards less. They scored less touchdowns in 2014(30) than in 2013(31). Number of penalties went up.
  3. Lets not forget, the OL(his baby), completely regressed in year 2. The run game got worse and that was with what 4? people coaching up the OL.
  4. Or 7-9 if Carpenter misses the FG in Detroit and the Pats** actually play their starters. This is a fun game.
  5. We've talked about this before but I really like Doughty as well. The ball comes out quick and he reads the field quick as well. Has a really nice arm as well.
  6. Bills spend in FA and bring in Calvin Johnson.
  7. Episode 1 is a complete waste. Spends way too long on characters that have absolutely no bearing on the story. Qui-Gon, Jar Jar, Watto, Darth Maul etc. and then gets rid of them or they don't appear again. Why does it matter that The Emperor had an apprentice before Count Dooku? The whole Episode 1 story is pointless. He could have started the story at Episode 2 and nothing would have changed. Do we really need to see pod racing for 40 minutes of the movie? Does anyone really care about Anakin as a child? Lucas likes to say Star Wars is about Anakin. The problem is there is nothing exciting about Anakins story. He succumbs to massive temptation, thats basically it. IMO, Star Wars is about Luke. His story is more interesting than Anakins. Plus Episode 7 is just a continuation of Lukes story.
  8. Also stole a bunch from Flash Gordon, like the scrolling titles. Lucas originally wanted to do a remake for Flash Gordon but couldn't get the rights so he made his own "Flash Gordon".
  9. Or there's that option haha. I don't like them either, never have. Some of the worst movies made.
  10. The good thing about that is if you watch Star Wars in "machete" order it eliminates most of the mentions of midichlorians. Machete order is: 4,5,2,3,6 Get rid of episode 1 as it actually makes no sense and adds nothing to the story. Use episodes 2 and 3 for back story after you learn that Vadar is Luke's father.
  11. Don't know if the NHL and NFL are quite the same. There are numerous cases where "blowing it up" in the NHL leads to success. Mostly because the top talent in the NHL is in fact at the top of the draft. You are almost guaranteeing cornerstones for your franchise. The NFL is a crap shoot. Teams have been crap for years and picked in the top 10 but haven't been able to turn their franchises around. Some teams have had one pick and turned it around.
  12. So again, why can't it be both? This doesn't have to be a Rex vs. Mario situation. Both these statements can be true: Rex's defense underperformed. Check. Mario Williams mailed it in. Check. In any case, unless Mario had a phenomenal season he was going to be a salary causality with the younger players who need to be resigned. A team can only spend so much in the DL for so long. Why is it that Hughes was able to keep giving a ton of effort and make tackles down field even though he was asked to do things like drop into coverage? Why didn't Hughes hold a "press conference" at his locker and complain? EDIT: this same thing happened in Houston when Wade Phillips was DC and Mario was moved to OLB and was asked to rush from the right side. He complained and moaned.
  13. Yup it's telling that Hughes was asked to drop in coverage and do some things different yet he was always going full speed. Running downfield, making tackles.
  14. I don't get why it can't be both for some fans, it had to be one or the other. Rex is at fault for a bad defense or Mario Williams gave up. How about Rex did mess up the defense AND Mario Williams completely gave up on his team. So he didn't like the scheme, that doesn't mean he should give no effort or take plays off. Especially at his salary and for how long he's been in the league. Set an example.
  15. Why does this always come up? A guy working the phones does not mean he is involved in the decision of who to draft. It means he is literally working the phones. Does a secretary get involved with the work his/her boss is doing? Hell, Whaley himself has said, multiple times, that he worked the phones for the Steelers. Russ Brandon had a good relationship with the GM for the Jags, it would make sense for him to be the one to talk to the GM. Does that mean it was his decision to make the trade and talk to the Jags GM? No. Does that mean he was the one who decided on drafting the actual player Sammy Watkins? No. A GM is one person, there is no way possible for him to work a deal with 2 or 3 teams at once. If he is on the phone to one team, he can't talk to the other team at the same time. It would be absolutely bad management if he didn't see what multiple teams were offering. Therefore he would need someone else to help him with phone calls. I honestly don't get why people think there is some conspiracy with Russ Brandon making football decisions. Does he have the owners ear in terms of organizational hirings? Yea, he probably does have opinions based on comments about Rex but thats all it is, an opinion. Terry and Kim Pegula still have to make the decision.
  16. In the article it says he can't consult because of his obligations to ESPN. So, he doesn't want to be a Czar and can't consult with the Bills. Seems like a bit of a publicity stunt to make those comments about the Bills then.
  17. Vader saw all of like 10 mins of screen time in A New Hope, you are exactly right that Empire made him as a character. Sorry but this just is not true. Lucas pulled from a lot of sources like Flash Gordon serials from the 30's and the John Carter books. The whole idea of the rebels vs imperial forces is from Flash Gordon, so is Cloud City. The roll up text is from Flash Gordon, so are the screen wipes. Lucas admits all of this. As far as the franchises corporate and financial goals, Lucas realized all of this by the end of Empire hence the Ewoks in Jedi. Cute cuddly bear type creatures that kids would love. The point is good story telling influences other stories. To me, this Star Wars was inspired by the first 3. That's not such a bad thing.
  18. I certainly wouldn't say dysfunctional but some of the play calls were odd at times. Overall though I think Roman did a good job.
  19. Agreed. It didn't work in Cleveland with Holmgren and it didn't work in Miami with Parcells. And yes Parcells, I guess, helped them to one playoff season but it wasn't sustained success. He didn't put them on a path to a successful franchise.
  20. Michael Silver has it figures out: @MikeSilver I'm sure Bill is trying to hook it up for his son, failed Colts GM Chris 😪
  21. It's all that simple is it? So, does he have recommendations about who these OL are and who the backup Qb and Qb of the future are?
  22. This is a good article. I know some fans want to say it's the players or it's just Rex and his scheme but the truth is it's both. Some games it was more the players, some games it was more Rex. I agree about the penalties. Love Smith is a hard-nosed disciplinarian type coach. He's definitely not a players coach. Almost the exact opposite of Rex. Still, the Bucs lead the league in penalties. I do think he needs to clean up the personnel fouls penalties although Hughes had 4 last year and has 5 this year, so maybe he's a lost cause. For me, I see a case for continuity and see a case for firing Rex. I think it makes potential coaches wary if a team is quick to get rid of a coach. Look what happened to the Browns, they scrambled to land Pettine after coaches withdrew from their search. Also, whether fans want to admit it or not the offensive side of the ball improved. We gave Marrone credit for hiring good defensive guys and the defense improving, so then Rex should get some credit for the offense. So, the question becomes, for me at least, with the offense improving and on the incline can Rex improve the defense enough?
  23. I'd agree with this. Also they've said "As long as he recovers from the injury..." So, come next season it is relatively easy for the Bills to say "Kyle just wasn't as explosive after his injury..."
