Would have been nice for someone, anyone to do that. Thought I'm not sure who decided on that defensive setup for those 13 seconds.

How many chances does McDermott have left?
Wayne Cubed replied to Igotbills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Why does he need to explain what he’s going to do? Because fans are upset? Do you think his job is to appease the fans? I think at end of day, you either accept that McD is the type of coach that will make the necessary changes or you don’t. -

You think he owes you that? He said they didn’t execute. And then he said that’s on him but because he didn’t say it how you wanna hear it, it’s not good enough? -
McDermott end of season press conference

Who knows and at the end of the day he's at least admiting it's an f up and he is putting it on himself. He's saying execution comes down to him. That's fine with me. At least he's not up there saying, gee I didn't think about squib kicking... it never crossed my mind etc. -
McDermott end of season press conference

Why? He doesn't have to. He's being ambigous while giving an answer and not throwing any specific person under the bus. What exactly will it do for him to admit it was Farwall or Bass fault? -

Or Farwell. All he's saying is they didn't execute. That doesn't necessarily mean it was Bass. Could be the plan was to Squib, Farwell didn't relay it correctly. Failed execution. -
Oh, I agree with that completely. Problem is, that isn't anything specific to just a McD defense.

Here's where I'll aslo disagree a bit. I don't think McD's specific defensive coaching philosophy is bad. It works, as proven in many previous seasons and in this season as well. It confuses the hell out of QBs. No defensive strategy is perfect. If you are upset about what happened last night, I think that's more about McDs coaching style overall. It's certainly within a McD defensive scheme, to play more press man and jam receivers at the line. Unfortunately without Tre, that's a big ask on Dane Jackson. I just son't think you can do that. They could also apply more pressure on the QB in a McD defensive scheme. The gameplan wasn't to against Mahomes as he absolutely punishes teams for blitzing. I just don't think McD would give up critical defensive desicions, not to mention they've drafted guys for a McD defense. Take for example the 13 seconds last night, they could be running a Vic Fangio defensive scheme and McD could have still told Fangio to play soft, protect the sidelines and rush 4. And it still might have failed.
-
While I think it's a Vic Fangio is a very good DC, I just don't see it happening. McD doesn't run the same type of defense as Fangio and I'm not sure there's a coaching connection there.

Serious question for those who want McDermott replaced... what makes you think the Pegulas can find a coach who's better than McD? The Bills took long enough to find McD. Look how the Sabres rebuild is going. Look, if it gets to the point where McD is absolutely wasting Josh's talent ala Mike McCarthy in GB, then by all means find a new HC. I just don't think it's there quite yet.

I'm not mad at Levi Wallace on that play. He was doing what he was told to do. Again, question the coaching on that play. Why were the Bills protecting the sidelines at all? You protect the sidelines when the other team has no timeouts and needs a TD, not when they have 3 timeouts and need a FG. Just absolutely ridiculous defensive play calling. You should want the Chiefs to do a long preforming route that takes up time. Hell, you should also just tackle Kelce and Hill at the line, take the freaking holding penalty.
-
Along with that, why not purposefully commit defensive holding on their receivers. Yea you’ll get the 5 yard penalty but it can also eat up some clock.

Daboll's Play Calling -- The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

I'd agree with that. Thought McKenzie would have earned some trust after that NE game and start taking snaps from Beasely. I guess not. -
Daboll's Play Calling -- The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
Wayne Cubed replied to HIT BY SPIKES's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd agree with this and while many people would point to a string of bad play calling for Allen yesterday against the Jets, I'll point to execution. The Jets were in man coverage, and were very tight in that man coverage. You have to absolutely execute to beat that man coverage and that's on the players. Saying that, I think Josh would have normally punished the Jets with his runs in those situations but they certainly weren't going to risk that this week. Josh also needs to lean on Beasely when these situations come up and he did try to hit and just was off target. Completely agree with 5 and 6, Josh is not a WCO Quarterback, he needs the rhythm and maybe that's also what happened in the middle of the Jets game.
