  1. Not into the photo, but I do like the idea. It could definitely curb some issues over time.
  2. This thread is going to be my favorite thread of the season.
  3. I was actually surprised that EJ didn't get penalized for removing his helmet on the field, and won't be surprised if the NFL fines him for it. But the "celebration", nah, no penalty there.
  4. FWIW, ESPN's power rankings are also "poll based" in that multiple writers weigh in, and the rankings are created from that. The Bills ranked between 22nd and 26th according to ESPN writers.
  5. Throwing money at something doesn't really mean much. Especially if the money goes to "pork", or is used inefficiently. The idea about better healthcare and education is that, theoretically, mental healthcare would be more widely taken care of, instead of getting to a breaking point. Would it have stopped this specific guy? Probably not. Like you said, he had access at one point. But he was also removed from the Navy, so I'm not sure how much access he had in recent years. Obviously my opinions are in the minority here (and country wide), so I think I'll just shut up on the issue. More guns is probably the "solution" we'll be looking at going forward, and all I can do is hope that it works out.
  6. Personally, I think the Jets are probably in the same middle ground grouping as us, the Patriots, and the Panthers at the moment. I don't see it being an easy win, or an automatic win by any stretch. It's kind of funny how quick perceptions can change with just a couple games.
  7. Two games... 1-1, middle of the league in all rankings... I guess that's tentative improvement Hopefully we continue to trend upwards.
  8. I guess we have different definitions. There's guns at every entrance. There's security walking around. There's armed guards at the entrance of most of the buildings. To me, that's a situation where there's guns around. The other folks suggest that people with guns, specifically trained people with guns, stop gun violence. (as far as their training, I assume it's more than most armed civilians have) Read the two posts before mine. And then the post that directly quotes my post. I'm simplifying what they are saying, but it's still accurate. The prevailing notion here seems to be that these events would not happen if everyone has a gun, and has constant training in active shooter situations. My actual view point is that in our current nation, gun violence is unavoidable. There are way too many guns out there to keep them out of the hands of those who would like to do harm. My personal belief is, that having more people walking around with guns would make it worse. Especially in cities with bad traffic, heh. Arguments would be solved with guns when people get too emotional. Also, unless everyone is enrolled in the military, I don't think random people with guns will do any good in situations like what happened at the Navy Yard. Do I have an answer? Not one that will work here in America. It's way too late for us to curtail manufacturing. No one would sign on to a more comprehensive license and registration system, either. Fact is, we have to deal with this, and it will just continue to get worse, no matter what the gun *control* laws are, because there are so many out there, and we continue to ignore the problem of healthcare and education.
  9. So the answer is, everyone should have a gun, and should have security training drilled into them on a regular basis, so they will be less likely to be surprised by an armed assailant?
  10. Libertarians would also have major problems with that, I'd think. Liberals and Libertarians generally share personal liberty opinions outside of firearms. I agree with your second statement though. There's no real answer at this point. It's a problem that's getting worse. It happens in areas where there are no firearms. It happens in areas where there are firearms. It happens with legally obtained weapons. It happens with illegally obtained weapons.
  11. How many people with mental health issues a) maintain jobs that pay enough, or provide insurance so that they can afford to get checked out? and b) are willing to go get themselves checked out period? The reason why I state "free" is because it needs to be easy. Part of the problem is there's a high cost barrier between needing help and being treated. Once that comes down, that'll partially encourage folks to get checked out imo. The other part is a social change, one that instead of stigmatizing people for needing help, is more supportive. Regarding "types", I shouldn't generalize, you're right. But I have found that most who are strongly supportive of the second amendment, tend to hate anything "socialized" or any "regulations" of a "free market". That may not be the case here, and it was wrong for me to assume so.
  12. I'm under the impression that you did not read my post. Guns are easy to get, plain and simple. I agree with you that gun free zones don't change anything. But I also think that having armed guards, or armed civilians don't change anything either. When a dude surprises a room with a shotgun, AR-15, whatever, people are going to die. The real issue is how are guns so easy to obtain? Why is there such a large proliferation of them? Also, this happened at the Washington Navy Yard. There are loads of guns there. In the hands of trained individuals. And yet, people still died. You may call it a gun-free zone, but as someone who is there every day, I see plenty of guns, big and small. But hey, keep laughing it up because people died in an area that doesn't necessarily subscribe to your political leanings. How come the Navy Yard shooter was able to kill so many people in a place that features lots of guns in the hands of trained individuals? Something doesn't line up with your facts. Also, it's somewhat ironic that the same people who are crying out for a mental health discussion, are generally very much against single payer systems, insurance regulation, socialized healthcare, and the like. You can't have it both ways. If you want easy and affordable (or even free) access to mental healthcare so that these situations don't happen, then the for-profit healthcare system in the US needs to be changed drastically.
  13. Noticed that as well. Love the video.
  14. Kiko has been spectacular this season. He's been fun to watch. Will be great to see how he grows, considering he's already starting off so well.
  15. I really want to go to another Bills game... the tailgating was a lot of fun. In the parking lot everything was incredibly light hearted. But inside the stadium, man... things turn dark. My experience was very similar to the OP's with the game I went to. People getting in fights, well behaved opposing team's fans get harassed (and not just in the good natured ribbing sort of way). It's a bit disappointing. I haven't had any issue being a Bills fan at other stadiums, though I assume the !@#$ behavior exists elsewhere too. I was contemplating coming up for the Bengals game, but I'm not sure if I'll have the money.
  16. I *think* they are available Tuesday. I could be wrong though, I've never used it myself, but I know a few people here do have it.
  17. "We are two weeks into the season, and I'm not willing to make too many hard statements on anything. The defense looks improved. It's certainly more aggressive and active. We have some better players, as well. And I'll leave out the "but..." from now on." "My only real concern is that Geno will be more likely to run with the ball than Cam (and obviously Brady). The Panthers specifically are calling for Cam to be more of a pocket passer this season, no real option run plays, and they've discouraged him from scrambling too much. This was to the benefit of the Bills last game, who took advantage and put some great pressure on him. " Yes?
  18. Cam had a pretty bad game, but it's also obvious that the Panthers offense isn't as dynamic as it once was. Can't one give praise to the Defense while also acknowledging that we have played different versions of teams that were successful recently? Apparently that qualifies as overly pessimistic. My apologies for making note of these things. My apologies for wasting your time with my lack of points. We are two weeks into the season, and I'm not willing to make too many hard statements on anything. The defense looks improved. It's certainly more aggressive and active. We have some better players, as well. And I'll leave out the "but..." from now on. It's funny that when I try to be objective, I'm called out as pessimistic. If I praise the team, no one responds to me at all. But I guess it is to be expected at a fan forum. I think we match up very favorably against the Jets. My only real concern is that Geno will be more likely to run with the ball than Cam (and obviously Brady). The Panthers specifically are calling for Cam to be more of a pocket passer this season, no real option run plays, and they've discouraged him from scrambling too much. This was to the benefit of the Bills last game, who took advantage and put some great pressure on him. The Jets, however, won't be encouraging Geno to stick it out in the pocket, I suspect. As long as we have someone spying on Geno outside of our rush, I suspect we'll be just fine.
  19. So true. Hell, what if a couple questionable calls against the Bills didn't happen the last two weeks? We might be sitting at 2-0, and what happens then?
  20. I work at the WNY. It was a pretty intense scene yesterday. I was luckily running late to work, so I got about one block away from the compound right when they were closing off all the streets. If it were another day, I could have been in the building at the time of the shooting. I ended up sitting parked in the middle of the street while a 100 or so emergency vehicles swarmed to the area. Regarding the snarky commentary of DC being a gun-free zone, so 'lol, haha, people still got killed, lol', is pretty inappropriate. Another comment could be made on the other end, the WNY is *heavily armed* and secured. Everyone who enters has to have passed a background check. There are armed guards all over the place. So... since guns deter gun violence, how could this still have happened? The reality is, these things happen because guns are easy to obtain, and that's the end of it. Having armed guards, armed citizens, being gun free, etc doesn't really matter when people can easily obtain guns, even with a history of mental illness. It was a ****ty situation. A lot of people died. But a lot of people die every day in a lot of cities in the US. And even moreso, a lot of people die in other areas of the world from violence as well. The gun debate is tiresome. Mass shootings are tiresome. Every day shootings are tiresome. A lot of people are asking how he got a gun/multiple guns in. Once you have clearance and proper badging (he has both), all you need to do is show your ID, and you are waved in. No frisking, no metal detectors, etc. The assumption is you're safe since you've gone through FBI background checks. Visitors have to go through more stringent entrance methods, though. WNY is on essential personnel only today. I'm at my office outside of the compound. We were allowed to telecommute, but there's no real reason for me to. The whole thing sucks. RIP to those lost. And a big thank you for the responders and emergency personnel who handled the situation. The security personnel of the contractor, gun seller and DoD/FBI background check people will probably be under heavy scrutiny after yesterday's events.
  21. Fully clothed women are not allowed at games anymore? Keep it classy Missouri.
  22. What about NFL Rewind? Only $30 or so for the season. https://gamerewind.nfl.com/nflgr/secure/packages?ttv=1
  23. In years past, ESPN's AFC East blog goes on and on about how Tom Brady leads the QBR standings in the division, and how all the other QBs suck compared to him, generally starting with week 1. (In fact, the article is usually "who's second best??? lulz") EJ Manuel tops the division in QBR this year, so far, and we have heard exactly nothing on the topic from them. Fun times.
  24. I agree that we look good going against the Jets O. Not questioning that. I'm just keeping myself a bit reserved in response to the NE and CAR games, due to circumstances of each game. Whether that's over skeptical or not, is not for me to decide.
  25. Like most ratings and ranking systems, I don't take them in a vacuum. I compare them with other systems and take the overall for a better feel. ESPN's QBR, standard QB Rating, stuff from PFF, stuff from Pro Football Reference, etc. Usually if a player is good, they'll look good in most/all of the above. If there's questions, they'll show as negative in one or two things, and so on.
