Report: Dolphins will go after P. Manning
RealityCheck replied to ET1062's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The real question is why would Manning want to remain on a team whose defense typically came up short in the playoffs more often than not. There defense will likely be worse in the near future as well. In terms of legacy (just throwin it out there) it might appeal to him to try and win a ring on a second team where the great Marino could not win the big one. -
I supposed that it could appear that way if your brain is less than 900 cc's.

If Bills Beat Giants No Super Bowl
RealityCheck replied to Mango's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"If" I cared about my mental well being, I would not be a Bills fan. -
So, what did we see yesterday?
RealityCheck replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What I relearned yesterday for the enth time is that offense, defense, and special teams win or lose games for you. To rate one side of the ball in a vacuum as to which is more important in a narrow multiple choice style assumption is pointless. The O and D of both the Giants and 49ers were locked in quite the stalemate. Special teams turned out to be quite the x-factor. Perhaps we should be discussing the concept of symbiosis between scheme, play calling, personnel, and the 3 phases of the game that the top teams exhibit while our team conspicuously does not. It would be nice to elevate the topic from what I remember on the playground as a kid. Just a thought. Also, if you are going to claim that one side of the ball wins blah blah blah in an absolution, then I would love to hear how you would characterize the other side of the ball. If defense wins championships for example, then what does offense do? -
How does anywhere in the draft mean that you can't pick one high in the draft?
-
You are willing to draft a RB in the 1st too? What is wrong with you?
-
You would have picked another 1st round center? That's funny.
-
That approach to defense is becoming less effective as more teams utilize the spread. When I've watched empty backfield looks against base 3-4 it's usually a 1st down for the offense. Also, most people confuse that base 3-4 look with the fact that where you would have OLBs you actually have DBs. In todays NFL, every down is a likely passing situation based on the Offense's formation. Why not put great players in the 4 man so that on any given down and distance you have guys that can get pressure without having to blitz all the time. I prefer a scheme that does not require the DC to be the smartest guy on the sideline.

Without a pass rush the best O-line in football will get you squat.
-
How do you quantify #1 and #2 receivers?
-
Our biggest deficiency this year based on pass rush came when we were in the nickel with a 4 man front, not the 3 man. That being said, regardless of scheme, we clearly need big time 4-3 style DEs. I never understood the move to the 3-4 when in todays NFL you are typically in a 4 man front on passing downs. If we stay in a 3-4, we will still be using a 4 man front against the Pats around 60% of the time. No matter how you cut it, 4 man style DEs are needed asap.

The guy gets a little success and he is looked at as more than he really is. Nix hinted at that in terms of his FA market value vs. his value to the team.

"Cheat to win." Eddie Guerrero R.I.P.

Run and stop the run will never be obsolete. That pass rush made me green with envy. It's no different than the tides. They roll in, then they roll out. Over and over again. By the way, you might be right about the future, but it was not present in San Francisco today, and that's what matter's most.

I love how people try to to differentiate what side of the ball wins games when every f*****g play from special teams to offense to defense for 60 f*****g minutes decides the outcome of a football game. Argue the chicken or the egg all you want but you NEVER have enough great players until you win it all, and even if you do within weeks it does not matter because preparation for the next season starts immediately. I do concur with the OP however, the quality of the 9'rs front 4 is an example of what we will need to compete for a division title, but it won't be enough on it's own.

Brees with 34 pass attempts at the half.
-
That is a major problem. The drop off currently from subbing either one of those guys out is immense.

Wood is a great player, but it seems that he is 1 injury away from being a total waste of a 1st round draft pick. I am not saying he is but the net result at the end of season is no different than a 1st rounder that rides the bench all season. The nature of how he tore his knee is not a good sign. It appears that his bone and ligament structure is suspect for the rigors of the NFL.
-
I agree to a point, he is no RDE, but at 285 the left side might be a great fit for him. I would prefer him there over Kelsey when it comes to playing the run. Using him as an OLB still blows my mind.

Great points. The thing that really stands out to me about Spiller at the end of the season is that as well as he played, there were still many big plays that he did not make such as drops, holding calls, and then the mysterious not giving him touches in the second half of games. As good as he did, not great but good, he clearly is not close to his ceiling. Some people will obsess about the draft in and of itself and all the BS ins and outs that go into it, but no one ever won a championship in April. If a Championship is the goal, that means that 96% of the teams are technically FAILURES every year. If the past 12 years were all playoff years for this team and we still did not win the big one, guess what, we would be even more frustrated than we are now and screaming for coaching and FO turnover. Look at the 90's, great memories to be sure, but an epic disappointment none the less. As far as Spiller's improvement this year, we have to remember that Fred also took another leap forward in his production. In saying that, our improved run blocking despite the injuries should be given props too.

Was he a DT or DE in college, I can't remember.

With any luck, maybe no one takes the Phins job.

Would you trade FJ for a 1st rounder in 2012?
RealityCheck replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The answer to that question is obvious. The Bills need a solid RB, and his name is Fred Jackson. You ride that wagon till the wheels fall off in my opinion.
