A Byrd in the hand...

What a move for the Colts. I hope it works out.

How soon can they extend Pettine?

Donnie Henderson. -
It's great to see a young player finally be put in a position to be all that they can be. Every player on defense handled their business. After watching all the cheap shots on SJ during the game, I didn't mind the penalty as much.

Marrone's locker room post-game speech.
RealityCheck replied to TPS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This defense and a commitment to running the football will soon be the identity of this team if they continue to win. I was in awe watching them play the run today. Very impressive against a stout NFC team that prides itself on running the ball. Cam Newton was contained and slapped around to boot. Seeing is supposed to be believing but it hasn't really sunk in yet. -
It has never mattered in the history of football when to go for the 2, only whether you make it or not, since that directly affects the only statistic that matters.

Wannsteds squad just lost the game.

I hope that Belicheat hires Wanny to coach for him next year. -
Leodis came out of college born to play press man. Unfortunately none of the defensive coordinators seemed to understand this until Pettine came to town. His weakness is playing defense in space. Problem solved with a competent DC.

In all fairness in regards to play calling, you guys have listed a number of good ideas, but EJ is still a rookie with very few preseason reps under his belt. I expect a more diverse attack, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is a minor adjustment to the game plan from last week either. I sense that protecting EJ from himself is part of the equation at the moment as they help him build confidence and establish a down hill running identity at the same time, while letting the rest of the team adjust to the idea that they will live and die by the no-huddle attack.

The problem isn't run blocking when Spiller is in the game. It's a question of getting the right play in to exploit stacking the box. Timely play fakes will eventually open things up. The Pats sold out on the run hard in order to stop CJ. Play action and 1 good deep pass completion would have changed that. I expect to see that on the 15th.

Compared to some of the elder statesmen playmakers on offense, I would say that they looked more like rookies than did EJ. EJ stepped up to the plate and delivered the football. The Pats receivers were selling out their bodies to make some amazing catches, the Bills skill players played tight and simply didn't get it done. I can already see that EJ in time will in fact elevate the play of his teammates in that he will hit them in the hands and leave no excuses for these guys to make. This isn't Fitz slinging inaccurate s***balls around the field that spell instant excuses for receivers, this dude is accurate and has touch when he needs it. These guys need to step up and help their QB or risk being revealed as scrubs that simply don't belong on a legitimate contender.

Marrone - this loss is on you both
RealityCheck replied to BreezeMafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
New England has proven time and time again that no lead is safe in the 4th quarter. The Bills needed big plays and TDs to seal the deal. I prefer to watch this team live and die by the sword than to lose hiding behind a tiny ass lead. This is a young team that just took it's first step towards ultra aggressive 21 century football. It is one loss. I am already over it. The fundamental reason they lost was stupid penalties, drops, and ridiculous fumbles. All the cry babies can blame all the superficial s*** they want, but penalties, drops, and turnovers defined the outcome. The players alone own that sad fact. I am ready for the Carolina game. -
None of the teams on your list won the Super Bowl last year. You should at least include who the QBs were throwing them the ball and include the QBs total pass yardage for a little bit of context. If the goal is winning a Super Bowl what exactly does gaudy TE pass yardage get you while ignoring over 50 other players that dress?
-
Moorman embodies the last decade of Bills football. When your punter is the best player on the team you have big problems.
-
I am excited to see how these rookie QBs do. I don't get all of this worrying nonsense. Nobody on this forum has any skin in the game, both figuratively and literally. When you buy the ticket, you take the ride. Stop sniveling and enjoy it for what it is, an adventure into the unknown. EJ and Tuel represent the unknown. Embrace it. Wish them well. Go Bills!

"What goes up must come down" is simply false. Try another cliche. -
Kolb plays scared and is too Fragile for the NFL.
RealityCheck replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kolb is finished. Reading some of the desk jockeys in this thread make fun of him for it is kind of funny. What ever Kolb's health status is I certainly wish him the best. If that knee to the back of the head really gave him a concussion then he has some serious health risks to deal with for the rest of his life. His head is clearly damaged permanently. -
I agree with you completely. Optimism is cheap and plentiful, and helps keep a bounce in your step. Negativity and complaining is just a really lame way to go through life, and few people want to hang out with people like that to begin with.

Judging by this thread, is it Nix's team again?

a quick review of the short tenure of GM Whaley
RealityCheck replied to zazie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the preseason jubilation was more a kin to recent history, Buddy Nix would be the one responsible for most of what we are crediting Whaley with. If it goes well, we can thank Doug. If it's another lousy season, we can blame Buddy Nix. Is it necessary to not give Nix any credit for the current roster? -
Where ever McGee is, I hope he is doing well. That guy got everything he possibly could out of that body. He was fun to watch for a long time. It's too bad he got stuck playing that god awful cover-2 for so long playing 8 to 10 yards off. I felt that his press cover skills weren't used nearly enough. He simply played his heart out.

Glenn's struggles last year came from the high ankle sprain. Fans at some point need to understand that players return from injury when they can handle the pain from said injury, not when they are 100% healed. Glenn was at no point after the injury healthy last year. The same can be said for all starters returning from injury during the season. Fans would probably be shocked at how many needles he had to get stuck with just to get in the games. Glenn is a warrior and I think he will really shine this year. As for the LG spot, we haven't even seen what the current events actually are. The preseason will give us a glimpse, while the Pats game will truly frame the situation. I can't wait!
