  1. If other players are constantly having to instruct him they aren't concentrating on what they need to do. And if it happens to be in a hurry up situation, he could slow everything down and that is a no no. If Rex is pointing out this issue then it is a serious issue. Coaches, at any level, are not prone to cut players who can help their teams win games.
  2. I agree that he is extremely talented. I disagree Woods is not a number 2. In the Bills offense, he is fine as a number 2. Because the number 2 is the fourth option anyway. Shady, Watkins and Clay being 1-3. I agree Woods will leave in FA after this season. His numbers are commensurate with Marvin Jones and Muhammad Sanu and they got paid. If the Bills did not have Marcell in rehab, I would be all over a Josh Gordon trade. But Gordon is so unreliable I don't think it's worth it. And the optics would look bad for the organization.
  3. A combination of analytics articles predicting he would fall over the hill because he was 27 and that is "old" for a RB in today's game and people liking what they can relate to. The Chandler's, Kyles and FredEx's are underdogs and many people in Buffalo relate to that due to the uninformed disdain the city gets. But as with most sports, superstars rule. If Shady is healthy, the peanut gallery will be silent for the most part. He is an elite talent.
  4. Screens and downfield passes. Shady can run routes.
  5. EJ looks like EJ to me. Not better or worse. He usually shows well in the preseason games. And in regular season he is wildly inconsistent. Even in the London game, as bad as he was for a long stretch, he also helped them come back in the game with a chance to win in the end. He's exactly what an NFL backup QB is. A guy who is talented, but not consistent enough to be a long term starter. We can definitely do worse than him at that spot.
  6. Well, when you don't show up for voluntary workouts and your competition does, then when you show up for mandatory mini-camp you are 30 pounds overweight, then you get suspended for four games, then the competition looks good in practice/games, it puts you behind the eight ball. Only has himself to blame, BUT he is talented and will get another opportunity most likely. Hopefully he will maximize that chance.
  7. I respect 99 for taking this step. It's not an easy thing for many people to do. Prayers up for him and others suffering from whatever addiction they have.
  8. It was an iffy call. He was looking back for the rock. Incidental contact for my money. I wouldn't have thrown the flag. All that said, not your fault. Jon Dorenbos, long snapper for the Eagles.
  9. If the Bills get injuries down the line at the position, but I think they are good with what they have.
  10. They might do something more permanent down the line, but they have a game tomorrow and probably wanted to have some kind of footprint. They're a hat company who, as you pointed out, paid millions for naming rights. Naming rights come with advertisements throughout the stadium. If the big advertisement is the one on back of the video screen so be it. Just give me a good team on the field.
  11. I don't think Boykin has risen to the top. Goodwin is the number 3 if healthy (yeah, I know that's a serious IF, but he's healthy for now). Boykin has flashed the last couple practices. Little flashed earlier in camp. Powell is the one WR among that group who has consistently been said to make plays and he brought that into the Colts games last week. He also is a guy who can be the backup Punt and Kick returner to Bush. I don't see how they keep him off. For me it's this order: Watkins Woods Goodwin Salas Powell Lewis/Little/Boykin Lewis also has PS eligibility so he will be on the team in some capacity one way or the other. That could be a help for the case of Little/Boykin. Depends on their special teams abilities. I also think Reggie Bush is a guy who might play some slot receiver. If Rex wants to keep one more safety then WR might only get 5, with Lewis going to PS.
  12. I agree. His numbers through the first three years of his career are equal to or better than Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu who have more time in the league. And both of them got paid pretty well this past off-season. Woods can play. He is actually the perfect number 2.
  13. Sean Payton is a bum. He's too relaxed on his players.
  14. OMG, this is the worst thing about Preseason. A guy plays well, against 3rd and 4th stringers, in a vanilla pre-season game and they are supposed to be better than the guy in front of them (because fans don't like the guy in front of them.) Did the OP think about WHY Jones is in the game against the 3rd and 4th stringers and not playing with the 2's? Jones must not be showing up consistently in practice better than they guy in front of him.
  15. Why? Fred was a great Bills player and will be on the Wall-of-Fame one day, most likely. But there are only so many numbers to go around and he's not a Hall-of-Fame player. Hall-of-Famers get numbers retired or taken out of circulation. And in cases of organizations like the Steelers/Cowboys/Raiders, they don't bother because it would take too many numbers out of circulation. Giving out #22 was going to happen eventually. Good that it was a vet like Bush who has accomplished some things in the league.
  16. This is a huge loss for sports fans. He was a great broadcaster. Grew up watching him. Prayers for his loved ones.
  17. Not a bad decision. He fit what they want to do on defense. The thought was that he could put off any surgeries. Turns out he couldn't. He will play this season by all accounts. And as a first rounder he's under contract for up to 5 years if the Bills pick up his 4th year option. The Bills will have games next year, the year after and so on. GM's draft for now and later. Missing 6-8 games stinks, true enough. But what about the other 8-10 he will be available this season and the multiple games into the future? I think they thought Ragland, available in the 2nd, was value that matched a need. By many accounts he had a first round grade. I think Whaley/Rex look at Ragland as more than a solid pro. We shall see, but I think they think of him as a difference maker.
  18. They would sign because camps are well under way. They probably have been waiting for injuries at their position, around the league, to get a chance to compete and put some more recent tape out to the league in case they don't stick, or actually make the team outright. Same reason Reggie Bush signed. The opportunity at hand matched the late timing of camps starting. Waiting on a perfect scenario is not advisable at this point. Better to put on some pads and play and let the chips fall.
  19. Agree. Week 1 is the goal.
  20. Nah, it was Ashton Youboty who said that on Murphy's show the other day. Although I think Murphy used the term again when he had Donald Jones on w/Gilmore.
  21. No way to prepare to play football except to play football. Injuries are happening all over the league, unfortunately. It's not just the Bills. If Glenn and Ragland can play week 1, all is well. Injuries will happen. Just hope they aren't long term (months) or season ending.
  22. What I'm looking forward to is when the scrimmage is over and hearing there were no significant injuries.
  23. I'm being pessimistic with the 11-5 record. As a fan, I don't understand why they have to lose any games. Realistically, I think 10-6 is more likely. Enough for the playoffs? Hopefully. 1 - @Baltimore W 2 - NY Jets W 3 - Arizona L 4 - @New England - W 5 - @Los Angeles - W 6 - San Francisco - W 7 - @Miami - W 8 - New England - L 9 - @Seattle - L 10 - Bye 11 - @Cincinnati - W 12 - Jacksonville - L 13 - @Oakland - L 14 - Pittsburgh - W 15 - Cleveland - W 16 - Miami - W 17 - @NY Jets - W
  24. RIP. A very good football coach and entertaining personality gone way too soon.
  25. I totally agree that this should be a consideration. I've said similar. And I don't think this should just stop at lineman, but include every other position as well. No need for 230 pound safety's or 270 LB's like Levon Kirkland. They have weight limits in Pop Warner. Some people are just bigger, but many of these players eat/lift to gain girth. Types of workouts would change and that human growth hormone use, if it is being used, would cease too.
