  1. I'm not a big death penalty guy, but I feel pretty good about this one. And the OP was an interesting way to learn of the news.
  2. He's probably not, but that doesn't mean he's not still a valuable member of the team. If there are 53 other guys that give the team a better chance to win then so be it, but I'd doubt that's the case.
  3. IIRC the Lions improved the year after he retired
  4. That was my thought. If they're going to make a change I'd rather do away with it altogether and make the extra point automatic unless you go for 2.
  5. That stat sheet guys also overlook the fact that Fred was almost always good for 2-3 yds on first down to set up manageable conversions where Spiller was setting up 2nd and 12.
  6. Rob Johnson sucked in that game, the team was in a position to win despite him rather than because of him, and he spent the rest of his career proving that he was one of the biggest mistakes in Bills history. It's not like the guy had a few bad plays, he was straight up garbage.
  7. Interesting how you guys conveniently omit his contributions in the passing game. I guess it doesn't fit your agenda.
  8. I see it the other way around as far as the league is concerned. The Patriots' offenses directly effect the league. Sterling had a private conversation with his girlfriend. I think your description of that is a bit over the top, but then again we are a nation of hyper-sensitive kitties on all things race related so I guess overzealous outrage is to be expected. Hitler didn't let his gf go to basketball games with black guys either.
  9. I Never said he doesn't have an axe to grind, nor did I say anyone should necessarily believe him, but to dismiss his account purely because he's bitter is pretty circular reasoning. If what he's saying is true it makes sense that he'd be bitter. Personally, I'm inclined to believe him, but that's primarily because his story is pretty consistent with what I thought to begin with.
  10. On his suit, I don't think that's right, but I could be wrong (I assume you're talking about a HIPAA violation and that's not a topic I'm terribly well versed in) but as far as I know if he's not disclosing confidential medical records then there's no cause of action. And in a standard defamation case the truth is an absolute defense. As far as dismissing him out of hand, I'm not suggesting people should take his word as gospel, but to dismiss it totally because he's biased is foolish. It's a good reason to be skeptical but it doesn't mean he's lying or that he's wrong. To use that standard you should discount everyone's account because they're all biased.
  11. I think there are plenty of things to worry about without getting too worked up over a player smoking tobacco. No, it's not ideal, but in the grand scheme of things it's pretty minor.
  12. He only has a case if it isn't true. Sour grapes. It refers to a situation where someone wants something, can't have it, and so they say it sucks. For example, if Turner said his old job sucked because he was pissed that he got fired from it, that would be sour grapes. This isn't the most egregious misuse of it, but it's not right either. If you think about it, this works out pretty well for the NFL. The story was too big to go away by itself and trying to pass it off on the water boy wasn't going to fly. They come to a ruling that the coach and the organization were blameless and it looks like probably (but not for sure) Tom Brady knew, and was likely the only other person who knew. So they give him a 4 game suspension and hit up the organization (on a vicarious liability theory?) with as little as they think will appease the public while mitigating damage to the integrity of the league and the league's championship team.
  13. Martin !@#$ed over a lot of people by being a coward. !@#$ him. 90% of the time I see someone use this expression they do so incorrectly. This is not an exception.
  14. Funny how people dismiss this guy out of hand for no real reason other than he's saying something they don't want to hear. Don't worry fellas. You're not idiots, you're just human. But this is a prime example of why humans by and large are pretty !@#$ing stupid with regard to anything they have an opinion about.
  15. We'll see. Ralph certainly **** the bed on that one and the football Gods can be unwaivering. Perhaps with new ownership they're willing to forgive that trangression, but we'll have to wait and see. Doug Flutie Rules!!!
  16. They didn't in 2007.
  17. A former Dolphins Assistant criticizes Wells. Granted, this guy's got an ax to grind, but his account is pretty consistent with what I took away from that "investigation". http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/14/ex-dolphins-assistant-rips-ted-wells-not-a-good-human-being/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs
  18. If you stop to call the police on a black guy with skittles he has the right to beat you to death.
  19. It wouldn't shock me to see this guy on the practice squad. I'm not sure we have enough roster spots for a 5th round project with good measurables.
  20. This doesn't touch on Wells, but it's an interesting take on Goodell and the league's whimsical approach to crime and punishment. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-nfl-s-punishment-of-tom-brady-and-patriots-is-a-warning-for-all-franchises-010200497.html
  21. I'm highly skeptical of his report on the Dolphins. I followed that story pretty closely and that report played out just a little too perfectly for the league. And based on everything that came out, including statements by other players on that team, I find it more likely than not that he at least misrepresented some facts to get to his (the league's) desired conclusion.
  22. I don't blame Wells for being pissed, nor do I blame the league for getting his back (he is their boy), but I question his honesty and integrity too, and I'm not even mentioned in one of his reports. I see no reason why he should be held to be above reproach.
  23. God forbid anyone question Lord Wells.
