  1. I’ll again preface that I’m not racing to judgement but I do think this may be a possible reality. Soon to be “celebrity” makes mistake. Celebrities friends do something awful after. School buries it… leveraging the fame and proximity to reignite the investigation could potentially be a thing. And could create a real challenging situation for the bills and their employee.
  2. though it’s also clear that attorney is a touch erratic with his approach at the moment so I’m not willing to say his prior behavior would’ve been spot on predictable for me to levy reliable speculation.
  3. i agree. For now, I won’t be upset if they let this play out and facts get established. I also understand if they walk away from it. I’m not feeling the need to rush them or race my own opinion. I think he messed up early in the night. I suspect he thought she was in college. I’d likely not cut him for that. I have no idea what happened later. I don’t think I’d cut him until there’s something more tangible. I don’t know what he told the team but if he straight out lied on a meaningful point that they can verify I don’t think he would have fallen asleep a bill last night.
  4. you might not agree but it’s a real defense to the charge here. It is 100% a consideration on whether he is guilty of the crime. And whether he is guilty or not is a consideration that matters. There are also other moral considerations involved in the earlier half of the night but what age she represented to him is not trivial and having that discussion is not trying to shame her. with it a viable defense to the crime I will admit to not knowing the proper term to use to discuss the distinction between a forcible rape (back half of the night), a date rape situation involving alcohol removing ability to consent (possible still early in the night), and this 17 year old who may have been too young to consent but could still be legally defensible if she was a willing participant? Her willingness to engage would still be a key point in the discussion at that point.
  5. If this is truly a SB team, this should not derail the season unless they handle it in an unimaginable manner.
  6. Yea- generally 100% on board there. Though I think Kaep himself was good with that added spotlight and sought it out too. It wasn’t just thrust upon him, he was very much engaged in it while in the league and after his departure. This wasn’t a guy that accidentally stepped in it, he used the mood of the moment for his own ends too. I think hard for many of us to wrap our heads around the possibility that someone in his spot could have different priorities outside the football dream… but here we are all these years later and he’s still relatively iconic instead of fading quietly into obscurity.
  7. because no one cares about the legal drinking age at a college party, but they do care about high school kids showing up?
  8. yea- a lot of folks struggling with the side by side issues here. the range could go from sleeping with a girl a few months shy of 18 and possibly legally defensible on that count through to then setting up a gang rape. it seems likely that we are going to see the first half of that play out somehow. It’s generally accepted he slept with her, factual she was underage and now there has to be a discussion of what she represented or he should’ve known. Litigating his knowledge of her age isn’t slut shaming. It is just the reality of the possible charge. The gang rape situation is a huge wildcard. The information I’ve seen leaves more questions than answers. that the two discussions are events in the same evening has made this a mess for message boards, headlines, and social media graphics. It can’t be distilled to short form like that. If it becomes apparent he truly was an accomplice in the gang rape it quickly can be distilled to him being a monster in 140 characters or less.
  9. that last paragraph isn’t a real thing.
  10. ultimately, there’s no happy outcomes once the grenade is thrown. Either she was victimized or it’s untrue and that’s awful too. all we can hope for is that the justice served matches closely to the truth of the events. Unfortunately in these situations it’s often you can’t be certain and there’s a degree of faith that the decision makers have to go with. For a man like Sean I’m sure he’s wrestling with that unknown now.
  11. Another rarely discussed aspect of the CK issue is that he was unlikely to quiet down. He would be the backup qb expecting a big paycheck and giving controversial takes regularly. odds are Watson can put time between him and the headlines. See Big Ben as an example. Kaepernick was likely going to be continually media management even if his was simply expressing political stances and not the more heinous offenses that we often see pushed aside.
  12. I’m not sure what is best about dropping the story publicly 5 minutes after haack got cut but before his first paycheck rolls in. I don’t fault anyone for wanting to leverage timing to maximize both their own compensation and the pain for the person that (may have) wronged them. this is just a real strange week to drop the bomb.
  13. At some point, if they do keep him, you put a wall around the topic and keep moving. He doesn’t have to give emotional responses daily the rest of the year. I don’t know where this goes ultimately but he’s not going to have hundreds of reporters descending on western ny
  14. you don’t always get straight answers on those? Also telling future employers about rumors of issues could be sketchy for an organization. I agree it’s nice to know first. Sometimes it’s dumb luck if you have a close personal contact in the loop at a random lower tier school
  15. as he can’t face league punishment, could he even go on the list?
  16. and his defense is likely that paired with “I know nothing about the other allegations” which may be a navigable strategy in court but sure will be a tough road to manage in the headlines. id venture that’s what the bills were told and they did not expect that public firebombing from the lawyer sharing so much and at this particular crossroad in the timeline
  17. you could drop josh into shotgun and have him pooch kick one with no returner in an emergency of course they put a guy back and you get a 11 vs 10 play
  18. sure it is. What do you find complicated about it? I don’t think they need to race to do it before they feel they have a grasp on situation. I’m sure they are reviewing all we see, and likely some we don’t know about yet. But they could cut him literally whenever they want with regards to the nflpa. What is the worst consequence? They cant pursue his signing bonus?
  19. the offense scored 17 points. There may have been a few problems mixed in their day.
  20. know what does wonders for a locker room? A super bowl parade. keep stacking talent.
  21. I mean, I would encourage you to regroup with his list of accomplishments. When healthy he’s an all pro wideout and you are comparing him to crowder and McKenzie. I think any talk of this is obviously contingent on bills doctors approving his knee but if it’s ok it’s an easy decision to take a swing over crowder. Come on.
  22. my understanding is pretty simple. the nfl wants a set roster limit on game day to force strategic roster management. A specialist for every role is not the goal. that said, as the game got more complex and the financial impact of a guy walking in off the street became more pronounced, they also realized a need to allow more guys to practice with teams so Monday night football wouldn’t be ruined with an insurance salesman playing safety if a few guys went down the game prior.
  23. to be fair, two big time qbs is a pretty great class by most standards.
  24. could be replaced? Depends on your meaning. His value to the roster could be. Will he? Probably not. though you are talking like he’s a skill position starter. They know what they have in him. Give someone the reps and see if they can beat him.
  25. you also have Gilliam, JJ, Dodson… we have a good number of carryover guys even if jones (or someone else) get left behind for a high upside prospect or package player or just better guy at the position. it’s a balancing act and I’m not saying give no consideration, but I’m also saying ST shouldn’t be primary on the list once you have kickers settled.
