  1. for sure. Just like missed blocks, missed tackles, wrong routes, dropped balls, etc… all can lose games too.
  2. you could end that post 5 words earlier. Those plays hang in our mind because they are both shocking and rare.
  3. yup. 2nd fewest punts and at any time could put kicks on autopilot by putting them through the end zone. If we chose, we could likely have a historically low number of kicks covered. While I like the tool of high kickoffs in our tool box… if it means cutting 2 guys that we think will contribute to another team it’s less exciting. The DB, WR and RB won’t likely all 3 contribute a ton but odds are one of them will be a heavy contributor in a playoff game due to injuries
  4. not the point I was making. there are fewer meaningful special teams snaps today than possibly any point in history. There have been rule changes and better training of kickers. Throw in our offense punting less because they are good. A kick coverage guy has never had fewer impactful snaps in the history of this team. It’s not discounting their skill or ability.
  5. a few counter points: 1) come January when we have some injuries, that backup WR, LB, DB etc… may be a full time starter 2) a dropped pass, missed block or blown coverage can lose a game just as quickly 3) a team paying stars needs a deep developmental pipeline. ideally you can find guys that do both. I can stomach a specialist or two. Once you are talking 3-4 take guys that are best at their core position and teach them to stay in their lanes in kick coverage
  6. oh Timmy….
  7. you do realize special teams players are impactful on very few plays too, right?
  8. the jets are basically the same
  9. I want to see tre at a normal recovery point as every game is crucial and he keeps don’t need to baby him over a common injury
  10. he’d also be an expiring contract and likely to be paid elsewhere ::comp pick::
  11. the calculus is simple. remember that chiefs game 2 years ago with our whole wr group hobbling around? if this is our year, you insulate against everything you can. im Not head over heels for OBJ, but WR is an impact position and he’s both talented and experienced.
  12. Almost like he could then shorten and/or directionally kick and force guys to field bounces. Even more fun. to be Debbie downer on a monster kick with no evidence of any reason to worry about other ability is silly Also he could cause real havoc with forcing guys to field one hoppers they can’t fair catch if they go toooooo deep.
  13. It’s a simple reality that last year only 2 punts were returned for touchdowns. do you think that is more likely to win you a game, or a backup DB blowing coverage lose you a game? there’s of course nuance and if you can find a guy that does both - awesome. But saying it worked 30 years ago as a strategy is ignoring changes in on and off field rules, advances in strategies etc… it’s much more of a “don’t mess up” segment of the game than a “win the day” section now. There are many fewer returns. That there are far less plays isn’t just silly numbers when discussing where to devote resources.
  14. There’s a sweet irony in declaring you won’t go back and forth in your fourth post back and forth
  15. because 2 constitute 80% of the game, kickers are another 15% and coverage/returns are about 5% theses days so how much of your roster do you dedicate to 5% over 80%? It’s not a set balance, and the talent available can effect it… but you can’t pull too many resources it doesn’t just have to be that but I was replying to a specific post arguing for those.
  16. I for one don’t understand how people ended up so high strung and confrontational
  17. yea but in 136 games there were just 9 of those kick return touchdowns. Only 8 teams had a KRTD… that’s one per division per season for perspective. Then roll in how many are in garbage time, or didnt effect the game at all. id bet many more impact plays (good and bad) were made by WR5, LB5 a kr td sure is exciting to see but it’s not something I’m sacrificing meaningful snaps elsewhere for.
  18. yes and no? a highly reliable kicker and a couple guys you can trust at returner… a good captain that can be an onfield coach and spirit of the unit.. and any incremental gains from there are relatively minimal as long as you aren’t running out guys that have no idea what’s going on.
  19. they all feel that way early - you picked the guys cause they are extraordinary specimens.
  20. I really have wondered what his whole story is. Just in a human level. obviously an incredibly gifted athlete, but his day to day life and when things got weird for him etc… yea, I mean a starting cb for a 3 isn’t super exciting even if he’s not great. But if he’s not in the plans it is what it is. I’ll own not loving the Sammy trade but also saying we have little knowledge of these guys. Sammys talent paired with good qb play could be remarkable. Unfortunately the remarkable part of his career seems to be mental health issues that are hard to discuss at such a distance.
  21. There is also the reality that we are unlikely to see diggs/Davis/McKenzie play 17 regular season plus multiple post season games all 100% healthy. im not dying for OBJ but I think there’s something to be said for extra depth at receiver and some extra attitude that this team should walk away with rings if they show up.
  22. well, he made it clear who his source was, which means the value is a total question mark and any real reaction are kind of pointless.
  23. “your policy states ownership is subject to harsher penalties than players. When you fielded reports about conditions with the redskins organization or viewed video of Robert krafts handjob in a human trafficking/prostitution sting - why were they not punished in line with this young man”
  24. i will own, surprised the nfl would risk this going to court. We will see what they try to impose now. Major fine and very modest change to the games they might skate without court. I’d still be shocked if they go big and end up in court. And then if they go small, it hardly seems worth the risk and continued headlines.
