Steve Tasker - what could have been?
OldNMBillsFan replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would have been interesting if Marv did let Tasker play at the WR position. It was reported at the time, that Jim had asked Marv to let Tasker play the WR position. Marv refused, for fear of him getting injured and not being able to play on special teams. Think about it. Steve was the best gunner at that time; he constantly had 2 jamming him at the line of scrimmage and he still made the plays. With his speed, quickness and ability to get off the line, I think he would have been an above average receiver if given the chance. -
Bills' Final Sale Price contest

Pegula. $985,000,000 -
I say Kiko. I thought on many of the long runs he was out of position, or was easily manhandled. I think he was solid for being a rookie, just not deserving of the hype.

The first possession of the season, second Offensive snap of the ball, and CJ drops it. A gift 3 points to the Patriots. We loose by 2. Inexcusable!!!! And many on this site will blame the rookie QB or the rookie coach. EJ played a hell of a game, for his first game. He got little help from his veterans.

Fred Jackson-Real Deal, Real Bill
OldNMBillsFan replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All this talk of Fred being cut, IMO is nonsense. Fred is still a very capable running back, with excellent pass blocking and leadership qualities. I honestly believe if it comes down to CJ or Fred, they keep Fred. CJ lost us the opening game last year. It was the 2nd play for the Bills, Ball on the Bills 11, opening day, against NE, with a rookie QB. What does our starting RB do? He coughs up the football without even being touched. Luckily the defense held NE to a field goal. The Bills loose the game by 2. This is a prime example of what Marrone and Whaley want to change. These plays are classic bills plays and are a prime example of why the bills have not made the playoffs in 14 years. CJ played with a lot of heart last year. I think that saved his job and earned ahim nother chance this year. -

My understanding is that the NFL is a non-profit. The money from television contracts, merchandise and other income that goes directly to the NFL is not taxed. Once that money is distributed to the individual team's, they are considered income, and taxed accordingly to each teams tax situation. This would preclude the income from being taxed twice. Once by the NFL and then by each team owner. I may be wrong, but that is how i think it works.

WR Stevie Johnson traded to San Francisco 49ers
OldNMBillsFan replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure i will, and you? What is your expectation for him this year? Now that he has a QB, 1500 yards? After all, he did get 1000 yards 3 years in a row with terrible QB's. Considered by his fans to be the 3rd best receiver in Bills history. I think he does not get more than 600 yards. -

I cant believe that some fans think that SJ was that good. In my opinion, SJ was nothing more than a real #3 receiver. The past several years, he was the best of an awful group. Bills receivers from 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons, and where they are now. I left out the worst of the worst. Impressive list of wide receivers SJ- 2013 Bills 597 Yards TJ- 2013 Bills- 361 Yards David Nelson- 2013 Jets 423 yards Dorin Dickerson- 2013 Lions 34 Yards Naaman Roosevelt- No Longer In NFL Derek Hagan- No Longer In NFL Roscoe Parrish- No Longer In NFL Lee Evens- No Longer In NFL Ruvell Martin- No Longer In NFL Donald Jones- No Longer In NFL Just for Fun. With the #41 pick in the 2008 NFL draft the Bills select James Hardy -
This is a fact. I was watching the draft on NFL.com. After Buffalo picked Preston Brown the analysts said that it was a good pick, it allowed the Bills to move Kiko to the outside and put Brown inside to shore up the run defense. There was no mention of picking up Spikes in FA, because they were clueless. They did think that it was a significant upgrade to our run defense.

Combined opponents QB stats Without Jarius (5 games)....106-197 54% ,1307 yards, YPA 6.6, YPG 261, 9 INT, 9TD . QBR 70.8 , 2 wins 3 losses Combined opponents QB stats With Jarius (11 Games)......204-364 56%, 1964 yards, YPA 5.4, YPG 178 14 INT,19TD. QBR 72.6% 4 wins 7 losses I do not agree that Byrd made the defense significantly better

Love the move. The receiver position has been drastically upgraded in the last 2 years. -
RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson
OldNMBillsFan replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The bills have been a failure for the last 14 years, partly because they were terrible at evaluating talent. Whaley made a bold move for a player he obviously feels will be a game changer for the bills. To those who think that this move was too expensive, i respectfully, but emphatically disagree. Whaley threw his junk on the chopping board, and made a bold decision. Some of you call it reckless, I believe it shows decisiveness and confidence, something this team has been lacking from its managers. Love the pick The time is now Go Bills!! -

Best move by the Bills in years to get a dynamic playmaker. This is the type of player the Bills have been missing. All this talk of giving up too much is nonsense. I believe, he will prove the nay Sayers wrong. This is the most excited i have been about the Bills since 87. Many of the games last year were close and exciting to watch. They added, Spikes,Graham, Chris Williams, Mike Williams and Rivers in free agency. They drafted the highest rated WR in the draft while still retaining the 9th pick tomorrow. If EJ, Woods and Goodwin all improve in their secound year, this team is ready to get over the hump. Screw the 2015 draft, hell trade them all away and picks 3-7 in this years draft to get 3 picks in the second round tomorrow. The time is now. Go Bills -
Players to use for trades
OldNMBillsFan replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The draft will let us know what they think of SJ. If Buffalo trades up in the draft to get either Watkins or Evens, I think they try to trade SJ (if they can find takers). Woods and Goodwin should progress nicely after very respectable rookie seasons. I think Woods is going to have a breakout year. A 3rd down guy that can move the chains. They added a legitimate #2 receiver with Williams in the off-season. If Buffalo moves up in the draft to take either of the Watkins or Evans, where does that leave SJ. Just my opinion, he may not even make the 53-man roster. -
Yeah, Don Beebe never dropped a pass. And Kelly = Fitz. That's my point. SJ is nothing more than a real #3 receiver. The past several years, he was the best of an awful group. I am a Bill's fan, not a SJ fan. I was at the Pittsburgh game; the Bills should have won that game. I can recall many dropped passes in clutch moments by SJ. Often, one play will decide the winner. More often than not, SJ can’t make that deciding play. We need a #1 receiver who can make that play. I can’t recall him ever making a spectacular catch when the game is on the line. The Bills passing offence has been horrible for a long time. Many blame the QB; I remember many on this board saying that Evens will tear it up when he gets a real QB. He couldn’t make Jacksonville's team 2 years later. (We all know why the Ravens released him) I think there is a good chance SJ will have the same fate. Everyone wants to blame the QB in the passing game. It takes pass protection, good receivers and a quarterback that can deliver the ball. Jim Kelly was fortunate; he had a good offensive line, two Hall of fame receivers and one of the fastest receivers in the league as his #3. IMO Don Beebe was better than any #1 receivers we have had in the last 10 years. Keep SJ as the #1 and we keep losing.

Who believes in Manuel?
OldNMBillsFan replied to Chi-town Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe In EJ. For a rookie, I liked what little i saw of him last year. I think he will progress this season as the game slows down for him. It was fun watching the Bills games last season. There was not one game where i turned the TV off at half time to go out and beat the dog. (JK about beating the dog) This year, i think the team turns the corner and is fighting for a playoff spot on the last game of the season. GO BILLS!!! -
ESPN: Bills' backup plan for Byrd underwhelming
OldNMBillsFan replied to Pitta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wished Buffalo could have signed Jairus, but the price would have been too high. I believe the Bills made a good decision. Jarius missed the first 5 games of the season, giving a good sample of games to compare the bills pass defense with him and without him. Combined opponents QB stats Without Jarius (5 games)....106-197 54% ,1307 yards, YPA 6.6, YPG 261, 9 INT, 9TD . QBR 70.8 , 2 wins 3 losses Combined opponents QB stats With Jarius (11 Games)......204-364 56%, 1964 yards, YPA 5.4, YPG 178 14 INT,19TD. QBR 72.6% 4 wins 7 losses I do not see any improvement when he returned that justified the money he was asking. The plan they had last year to replace him produced similar results they got with him. SNF: Bears, Eagles, and Philly fans, oh my!

It's a good thing Nick Foles didn't play his rookie year with Buffalo. With his rookie year stats, the fans would have ran him out of town. He is having a great year. -
Give Marrone and company time. This year, the rookie draft class contributed the most of any rookie class I can remember.

I think it is too early to judge his future performance. The man has never gone through training camp as the #1 QB. I think he will improve next year. I do agree his deep ball sucks. He under throws about 90% of the time. I do not recall him hitting a receiver in stride that led to a long TD pass.
