Freddy J 24th highest paid Bill, 42nd highest paid RB
PDaDdy replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
PAY THE MAN!!!! 3 Years is about all I would do given his age. Since NFL contracts don't mean squat especially to owners we could always sign him for longer. We can always get rid of him if his performance doesn't continue to exceed his contract a few years down the road. -
I must be blind. To be more correct he hasn't made a big impact. I do think he has made an impact over Maybin who couldn't score but I'm not sure about moates. Perhaps he does a better job of setting the edge in the run but I feel Moates would have had a sack or 2 by now if he was still at OLB. I think the Bills have been hiding the fact that he is probably still not healthy and in good football shape. On some of the plays I see Dareus is getting double blocked, KW, Kelsay and Merriman are being single blocked. KW and Merriman need to beat single blockers.

I think the answer is an emphatic NO! Spiller is a RB. When he was used week 2 he had great production. I think the offense has gotten more complicated not less complicated. It seems to me that the ability to run multiple looks out of the same set is what is important right now. Jackson, as fitz has said, is incredibly versatile. He can run, he can catch and most importantly HE CAN BLOCK. Spiller will continue to come along and should hopefully model his game after the guy in front of him but with the added benefit of incredible speed. Spiller is still a work in progress in between the ears and he will have some good games like week 2 and some games where you don't remember if he was on the field. As time passes we will hopefully continue to see more good contribution games and fewer invisible games.

Do the bills have the best O-line in the NFL?
PDaDdy replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No the Bills do not have the best O-line. We are not close to having the best O-line. What we do have is a QB and a scheme that is predicated on getting the ball out so quickly that the line almost doesn't have a chance to fail as long as they don't get pre-snap penalties. The running game is a different story in that the O-line has a much greater impact in my opinion compared to the passing game. That being said the threat of the pass, the play calling and the scheme are also helping out quite a bit. Good start for them but let's not get carried away! -
I couldn't answer the poll. I think Fitz and Gailey are the perfect storm of a sort. I'm not talking Kurt Warner/Mike Martz perfect storm yet but so far so damn good! Gailey's offense with Fitz's ability to execute it seem to be VERY well suited. Right now their successes are truly linked to each other. Gailey has had some success with the Kordell Stewarts and Tyler Thigpens of the world but Fitz seems to really be in a system and environment right now that truly play to his strengths. As long as Gailey is his coach and perhaps even more importantly his offensive coordinator Fitz IS a franchise QB! In reality I think "history" says whether a guy is a franchise guy not. Predicting whether a QB is a franchise guy or not requires a great deal of speculation and no one knows for sure. I would like more of a "history" to confirm my "speculation" that as long as Gailey is with him Fitz is THE GUY.

Our defense has to win this game. If comes down to a shoot out the Patriots are really good at it. We put up some good numbers so far this year but asking Fitz to throw guys open and take too many chances for the win is a recipe for failure. Our defense can't let the Pats rack up 30, 40 something points and EXPECT our offense to keep pace. Can our offense keep pace? They have shown they are capable but it should not be relied upon.
-
Super fast guys that had big holes to run through and rarely had to block for their QB usually take a while to pick up the NFL level. Gifted athletes are rarely great students of the game compared to the less gifted.
-
Spiller was killing them that drive. They were obviously worried that he was the go to guy to make a yard on 4th and 1.
-
For all his game planning his defense hasn't been that effective. His game planning and personnel sets on offense are what are winning games for them. They can run so many plays out of that 2 TE set that it gives opposing defenses fits especially when they go no huddle. Nick Barnett, our safeties and perhaps another LB who is good at coverage will be challenged. If we can cover their TE's and be as effective against the run game as we were against KC we have a shot. We can't take our offense for granted but I think it will come down to how well the defense plays that will determine the outcome on Sunday.
-
Spiller was killing them on that drive. He warranted the attention he got.

The appolgists never get tired do they? It amazes me that at this late date his supporters still can't admit that they were wrong and that Trent just sucks. They also seem to forget Edwards actually threw one of his BEST games his first game back from concussion!!! Well that and the guy himself has said the the concussion had nothing to do with his struggles. Eh, what does he know?
-
I would say Barnett had a bigger impact last Sunday.
-
Don't you know this team will never go anywhere until we get a franchise QB?????
-
And they say there is no smear campaign or conspiracy to shut the Bills out of national media coverage and prime time games.

Man this sucks. Assuming the illness isn't of his own doing I feel really sorry for the kid. 2 years in a row has never played a down for the Bills. He had all the measurables you want in a WR. Big, tall and really fast. I was really hoping he would end up making big contributions to the offense this year and was hoping he would turn into the new Stevie Johnson. This guy has missed too much time and will probably get cut next year unless he has a stellar camp and can stay off of IR.

Poz was a huge fan favorite but the reality of the situation was just as you described. He can't cover TEs and RBs. To many times he was on the wrong end of a highlight clip. I'm trying to remember exactly but Buffalo gave up TDs to opposing TEs for 5, 6, 7 or more weeks straight at one point last season. Poz was got burned by every one.

Someone occasionally hitting the lottery doesn't justify buying lottery tickets as a solid plan for long term success.

Your heart is in the right place but in my "humble" opinion you have it all wrong. Lynch loved it hear until the fan base started calling him "thug" and believing all manor of story even that he stole a $20 bill from some policeman's wife or some such bs. He was a young guy that made some really dumb mistakes. I don't know about you but raise your hand if you were a complete saint in your early 20's and never got into any mischief. These guys have the misfortune of having those mistakes make the national news. On Lee Evans, his best years are still here. We have only had 2 seasons with an unquestioned starter who actually had the arm to utilize his speed. You can say he wasn't a great fit for Buffalo because of the parade of weak armed QBs that have been through here and the rise of the short passing game but that's NOT his fault. You don't buy a Ferrari and take it off roading. You don't take a 5'11" speedster and have him try to out muscle guys and take shots going high over the middle. Secondly there is NO SUCH THING as a "no defection" team. This view is quite naive. We are not the Patriots or the Eagles. Our team is not a bounce of the ball away from a superbowl victory. Players will not take a pay cut to play for Buffalo. We are a team that spends cash to cap to enhance the bottom line. Wait until it comes time to resign some of the players we have drafted. If they actually turn into great players, they will want to be PAID like great players. If the Bills pay fair market value for their services they will stay. If they don't they will leave. That is how it has always been. It's really as simple as that. What is complex is how the fan base forms an opinion of a player's contract issues. We as fans debate how greedy or disloyal player X, Y or Z is and ultimately it comes down to who the front office pays or doesn't pay that DETERMINES a fans opinion of a player most often. We pay Kyle Williams he is an awesome no defection guy. We don't pay Peters and he is a greedy fat slob and despite 4 consecutive probowl appearances he is a below average LT. Aaron Schobel is a hero because Ralph paid him and he was worth every cent. Lee Evans, although most consider him a class act, has his best years behind him and it wasn't worth paying the paltry 5 million a year to keep our fastest and most experienced WR on the team. Don't believe the hype. We get indignant when players want old Ralph, a MILLIONAIRE, to open up his change purse and pay somebody what the market would pay them and get pissed when they leave. There is not a single person on this whole board that wouldn't take a 50% to 100% pay raise to go do the exact same job at another company. People need to see players as people with jobs like any other american. This became more of a business than a game a LONG LONG time ago.

anyone else excited to see Merriman play an entire game?
PDaDdy replied to piccone 89's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone else hoping that he actually does play an entire game? I still can't figure the guy out. I don't know if he plays beyond his physical limits, is brittle or is just not the same after his suspension issues. When Merriman played in preseason he looked AWESOME! I would feel a LOT better if he wasn't held out of so many practices though. I don't know what it is that he has been recovering from for the last 3 years. -
I did grandpa. If you can't block and pick up the blitz you aren't getting on the field much. Spiller is a speed back that needs an actual hole to run through. Something our line hasn't been great at opening. I have always said Fred Jackson is really good at cutting back and taking what is there even if it is 2 yds. Spiller has the same problem all these super fast guys with good offensive lines in college have. The pro game isn't about gaping holes and gallops to the end zone every other play. (exaggeration). He'll get it. I don't drink the Kool Aide but how about we don't call the kid a bust until he actually has a chance? How about that chicken little or do you want to keep saying the sky is falling?

Will Spiller fall below the Maybin line?
PDaDdy replied to CSBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting...so who did he beat out for the starting job his second year after a 357yd no TD freshman year? Since nobody ever answers a direct question on this board I'll answer for you.....NOBODY!!! Larry Johnson was gone. I seem to recall KC had something called...what was it again?.....OH!!...a competent offensive line Your welcome for the FULL history lesson Seems much different when you look at the whole story doesn't it. Are you referring to McFadden's AWESOME 357yd 1 TD sophomore season? I seem to recall something about a O-line on this one as well. Hrmmmm. -

Will anyone actually give the kid a chance to learn the pro game like blocking and waiting for holes? Buffalo fans are ridiculous. We actually think he is a bust because he can't unseat everybody's star pet RB Fred Jackson? COME ON!
