I think Dan Williams HAS to be the pick.
tonyjustbcuz replied to Hazed and Amuzed's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank You! I really didn't agree with a lot of the other posts about Dan Williams being so great of a pick! I have Dan Williams projected more in the 15-20 range for the 1st round. I think the Bills should try hard to land Clausen...even if it means moving up to the 5th or 7th pick of the draft. I think 5th ensures Clausen though...Still some risk at #7, and I don't think he'll last until #9. I believe that QB's are at a premium and Clausen is as NFL ready as any QB in the draft. If Clausen isn't there and we don't trade up then I think you have to hope for a OLT falls to you. I think that OLT & QB is the two positions of need. Sure, we need a NT as well, and a WR seems to be overlooked in many of the Bills Mocks, but it seems like one of their greatest needs now that T.O. and J. Reed are gone. Hardy has been injured and hasn't proved his worth in the NFL. Steve Johnson had a few moments in spot duty but is not very established either. I think you have to look at a WR in the 3rd or 4th round. I think that the Bills like Trent Williams a lot as he is the most versatile OT in this draft. I think it's a 50/50 roll of the dice rather he will be available or not. I'd like to see the Bills move back into the 1st round after Selecting a OT at #9, and picking up Clausen somewhere between #10-15, but like I said I doubt Clausen will be there. I really like Derrick Morgan as a player as well...and C. Spiller too...but we have greater needs to fill and I don't think this is the draft for the Bills to pick the best available player on the board. I just don't buy into that opinion that the Bills have stated about the best available player..and they are not going to reach. It sounds good...logical as well..but with all the glaring holes they have I can't see them drafting a CB for instance with the #9 pick. Many say that Joe Haden will go at #7 etc....I just can't see the Bills sticking with that philosophy! I don't know who, but I think the Bills will land one of the following players unless they move up or down in the draft: Jimmy Clausen QB Trent Williams OT Bryan Bulaga OT C. Spiller (even though I don't think they should).... Anthony Davis OT....another player I'd prefer they don't select so high. Russel Okung OT...(ONLY if they move up in the draft).... That's about all the options I think they are strongly considering dependent on who will be available at #9. -
I like the effort, but not in agreement with our picks after Clausen...although Saffold is another pick I think is possible. So I agree with 2 of your picks total out of your Mock. That doesn't mean that your mock is wrong...maybe I am.. lol...I don't see Clausen sliding to 24 by any stretch...I don't see him lasting 12 or 13 picks..and definitely within 15 picks in the 1st...But I like that outcome without doubt!!! I will have to do a mock as well...I like that you filled our main desires OT, QB, WR, OLB, DT, RB....So definitely great job in that regard as well.

Football Outsider says: pick top-ten RB over OT
tonyjustbcuz replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank You! I brought that up last night and came to the conclusion that you'd prefer great blocking obviously, but a real good or great RB finds holes or at least some seams and creases to run through just like Barry Did. Last year Fred Jackson really did a superb job and got a good amount of yards even though he shared the RB duties with Lynch to some extent. Jackson was tearing it up before Lynch came back off of a suspension. Back in the 90's...can't remember which year but Bledsoe had his one really good year as a Bills QB..Especially early on in the season. He had well over 4,000 yards passing....the RB's probably had 1,400 yards or more, and the Bills were ranked 11th in the leaugue in Total Offense. This was all achieved despite the Bill's having a porous Offensive Line which allowed about 56 sacks!!! that particular year. They gave up about 10 more sacks than last year's team did which is unbelievable!!! (but true).. Yes, a good O Line is important, but good QB's, WR's, and RB's can still achieve great numbers with select playcalling, focusing away from their trouble spot on the O Line, Sometimes implementing some shotgun plays, etc...there are ways to manage around offensive flaws to some extent. The one flaw that really stands out and is difficult to work around is inept QB's as the ball goes into their hands nearly every play! You cannot make up for the QB! A particular RB may have the ball in his hands 1 or 2 plays per set of downs, a WR may get a play each set of downs, A Offensive lineman may screw up possibly a handful of plays per game which leads to two or three sacks, but nobody...I mean nobody has the ball as much or impacts a game and season as much the QB! So one way or the other the Bills need to ensure they get Clausen, but I believe that they need to move back into the 1st round or hope that their is a good OT available with their 2nd round pick because it would definitely make things that much easier if the QB had good offensive line protection. -
If New England offered a 2nd for Lynch?
tonyjustbcuz replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Call me stupid, but didn't Fred Jackson run behind the same line as Lynch last season??????? No, Lynch gained weight and tried to claim it was all muscle last off-season. He got content with being the starter and lost his motivation and the starter designation. Lynch can be good, but chooses to focus his attention on nightlife...Chippewa, Toronto, and crime. The Bills had a better game and was a much better team without him last season. Jackson was tearing it up before Lynch came back after his suspension. Great running backs find creases to run through...Detroit put out a lousy team year after year with Barry Sanders, but Barry found the creases and seams to run through even though his teams were generally lousy. Walter Peyton was awesome and most of the time Chicago was not a very good team except in their Superbowl year! Earl Campbell ran wild and carried opposing defenders on his back and dragged players as he picked up extra yards. If a Running is great or even very good...they will find a way to get yards! Like I said Fred Jackson get his yards...I hope Lynch is gone..but if he remains he needs to regain his focus instead of acting like a "Gold tooth fairy". Beastmode..yeah right!! -
If New England offered a 2nd for Lynch?
tonyjustbcuz replied to clearwater cadet's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haven't read the other posts..so I may have a different view from the majority? but heck no! I would not have any business dealings with New England..first off, we normally get burned! I would not want to have to play N.Eng twice a year with Lynch! I don't like Lynch...I think he has exceptional talent but only perfroms to a exceptional level when motivated. I think Lynch would be so up against us (more up than he is with us) that we would pay greatly for the next 3-5 years. I would take a 2nd without question from most any other team except from a team within the division. No thanks!!! -
The perennial good teams understand the value of a higher pick in the draft...There is never a guarantee just because a player is taken higher that he will pan out, but overall the odds are better indicator of success statistically than a lower pick. Sure there are many examples of players taken lower and many busts taken in the top 10...I'm just saying overall your odds of landing a franchise player are increased. Also picking higher gives you more of a talent pool to choose from and an opportunity to draft a player you covet. I understand that we have holes to plug all over the field and need depth, but the problem with our team hasn't been having "enough" players.....it's been having "Quality" players. As an organization the Bills have been a team of mediocrity at best and have many marginal players who start, but would only be backups on your better teams. For example: I know this is a no-brainer (at least to me), but if you could go back to when Peyton Manning, Jim Kelly, John Elway and many other stars were drafted and in order to change the history books and have your team select that player....Wouldn't you'd be willing to give up the 24, 37, 55, and 70th pick in the draft for that same opportunity to get one of these franchise QB's ??? I would in a heartbeat!!! So, if the Bills covet a player (and Buddy Nix mentioned in his interview that he wants a franchise player who can make a difference right away!) that the Bills War Room thinks will be a franchise player....then I want the QUALITY player everytime! As long as the Bills do their homework this time...and avoid drafting a red flag player, a player with a criminal history, injury prone, a tweener, a player that is quite undersized like Maybin, or projected to be a MAJOR reach like Maybin when B. Orakapo was in their laps for the taking..If they avoid these mistakes..then I'm convinced you go with the talent..that includes moving back into the first if necessary to get both the QB and the OLT that they "should" want!!! Move up, or stay Pat...but don't move down!!

Big Ben - Pitt Listening to Offers
tonyjustbcuz replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good point! The morality is definitely lacking in several if not many players in the N.F.L., but then again that goes for our society in General. When I lived in Iceland..(seriously) the people there were very honest. Mothers would park the stroller with baby in front of a little store, set the wheel brake, go in the store, do a little shopping, come out get baby and go without blinking! Try doing that in our wonderful country... The NFL players is just a micrcosim of what we see in young people today. Everyone (well not everyone but many) feel "entitled"...entitled to break the law and speed, entitled to parking in handicap zones, entitled to break the law because it's their world and they are above the law. Pull out the IPhone..I pad whatever...organize "my life", my world! Just sit in front of Tim Hortons for an hour around 8 a.m. and analyze...Watch people hurrying in the parking lot..while on the cell phone or texting...Hurrying, and trying to beat the next guy to the drive thru..at all costs! If I'm crossing I'd better move because that yuppy girl on the cell, and fixing her hair will run me down if I slow down "her world"...These NFL players are the same way..it's a business..it's all about them...Bruce Smith can get arrested for DWI 3 times and end up with community service and a 100. dollar fine!! Society allows it...Thurman Thomas, Jim Kelly was no angel just because he is popular..I met him and love him as a player..in person he was a total 100% complete blipaty blip to me...It was Vick...It was this guy or that guy...now Rothlesberger again! There is little integrity in sports anymore..heck some refs (was it basketball??) even helped fix games! If your a sports fan you have no control...if you follow it like I do..then you have to wear blinders, because when you think of the greed! and the criminals that are in the sportsworld you'd get sick to your stomach! So, from a sports perspective I hope the Bills try to acquire Rothlesberger even though I disapprove if he committed an offense that I find atrocious. It's not necessarily going to be any better by having another character in his place. Look at Lynch..He hit a woman with his car and left the scene. He's had illegal guns in his vehicle...etc...I will watch with blinders and try to enjoy the game with a narrow mind otherwise I would be so disgusted that I would find something else to do with my time! So if you can get'em get Rothlesberger! -
I just wonder just how much input Nix had in the Chargers draft. I heard some flack that he may not have had as much influence on who San Diego's selections as he gets credit for. I hope that he was the key figure in drafting their players and that's just a bunch of Mularkey!! (Woops! Mularkey no pun intended..well that's another chapter for another day)..lol

Instead of Trading Down, Trade Up
tonyjustbcuz replied to symbiant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not worried about R.W.'s money and neither should you...He get's the County to anty up for so much in repairs and maintenance. He gets a big portion of the ticket revenue, parking revenue, NFL Merchandise revenue etc....He's not hurting for certain and I am sure he has a nice big tax write-off to boot. He has squandared big money on FA's like Langston Walkery and Derrick Dockery without blinking. That was money wasted too...So at least a high draft pick is a high reward pick with the potential to be another 90's like player like Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly and the likes! The only thing is if they want Clausen, Bulaga, or Williams and they covet just those players...well then it's not necessary to move up to #2 in all likelihood. You can get one of those 3 at #7 by trading up with Cleveland...only 2 spots..Cleveland moved all around the draft board last year during the draft! If you want a guarantee on a specific player like Clausen or the other two OT's mentioned...then you need to get #5 pick with K.C. ...So guarantee (just about) of Clausen #5 ! If you trade up to #2 You should go for whomever remains of Suh, McCoy, or Bradford. I am almost certain Bradford will be gone with St. Louis's first pick...I think that was pretty much acknowledged by St. Louis by releasing Mark Bulger. So if you go by the best players available at #2 your looking at Suh or McCoy which is the popular opinion, but I also share in that analysis as well. I would go with Suh DT at #2 if we made the trade. I am hoping that we can stand pat and get either Clausen, Bulaga, or T. Williams in that order. I believe in QB with the 1st pick over the OT even though there will be some disagreement on that issue, but that's fine as I have gone back and forth with that issue and am finally convinced on a QB with a franchise type of selection. I am hoping the Bills get back into the 1st round though for an OT, because there definitely is some compelling reasons on that part of the arguement why we need a more than adequate OLT. -
jets to go into the toilet
tonyjustbcuz replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Jets will be overrated going into the season...they will be pretty good, but I think Sanchez will recess slightly and have a sophmore jinx! The Jest are pretty decent because of their drafting, but the Redskins have already proved that signing a lot of high priced FA's usually don't work out. I think the Jets will win 9 games and miss the playoffs. -
Whatever...I don't buy it! Get Curly, Larry, and Moe the $#@@ out of dodge!! Start fresh...Get me Clausen, in the 1st, some QB in FA, and a late rounder like Crompton in the 5th round...and make sure you pick a 2nd rounder like Saffold OT, and again OT in the 6th round...also pick up a DT in the 3rd round, and a WR in the 4th rounder...5Th rounder maybe S. Mayberry (sp?) or something like that at RB...Sounds like a scatback. Just ensure you get the QB & OT at the very least or there will be a lot of mad Bills fans!!! Don't use picks on Safeties, Cornerbacks, or DE's in this draft that's all we ever seem to do anymore!

New trade partner... Pittsburg?
tonyjustbcuz replied to rocwocka's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With Bradford, Suh, McCoy, Okung, probably Berry, maybe Haden....all likely to be gone prior to #9 and either Williams or Bulaga as well....That should leave at least one of the 3 for us at #9 (either Bulaga, Williams, or Clausen). I don't like the idea of moving down to #18 either, but if Berry and/or Haden don't go in the top#9 and all those players are gone at #9 then I think it would be okay to do what you mentioned and trade down..but I really hate to!..lol.... I expect teams to try and move up to the #4, #5, & #7 spots. I think if Okung was gone before #4 (probably not likely)...then Washington would definitely move down and pick up a 2nd rounder to make up for the one they gave up for McNabb..They might even do that regardless. I think K.C. at #5 is a good trade spot as Pioli would love extra picks IMO. Last year the Browns moved down multiple times, but the organizational structure has changed some there so it remains to be seen. I think if we want a guarantee of getting Clausen...we're looking at #5 or if we're looking at a guarantee of getting either Bulaga, Williams, or Clausen with our first rounder...then we need to trade to #7 and since it's a small move maybe a 3rd and 5th rounder may accomplish that? Yeah, lots of smokescreens prior to the draft......The Bills want a scatback, We'd like to add a 4th QB to the Mix, You can't be a successful QB laying on your back, etc....Just what does all that amount to for our 1st round pick I don't know....but I guess that's the idea...the reason you bring in Tebow and have him wine& dined by a former player, the reason you go to the combine to see Clausen, and his pro day, and have him visit O.P. as well....Lots of posturing and I'm sick of it, but yet excited for the draft! Although, I hate that it's on weekdays under the new format and would love to have the first 2 rounds the same day...but oh well! -
What QB best fits Gailey's mold?
tonyjustbcuz replied to sllib olaffub's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably Tim Tebow as a backup to Michael Vick! Not my choices, but it would give him a mobile starter and a mobile backup to have Vick mentor. Although it would be ironic and funny to see how two quarterbacks from the opposite side of morality to work so closely together during the dog days of summer (No pun intended!!)..Well maybe a little! -
Lynch didn't even reach 500 yards last season...Where do you get 2,500. yards unless F. Jackson is the next O.J. or LT that is a ludicrous statement. Buffalo actually had a nice running game going until Lynch returned after his suspension! Realistic expectations for the duo if we still have lynch would be around 1,500 yards for the season.

I'm sold on who the Bills Draft at #9
tonyjustbcuz replied to thewildrabbit's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not the arguement I was making at all! There are draft failures at every position...Yeah, Your Tim Couch's etc...but it happens at OT as well...Just look at our own draft when we drafted Mike Williams OT higher than we are positioned now! Or Robert Gallery OT who has not lived up to his billing...there are many more...Like I said that wasn't even my arguement if you "really" read what I posted. It comes down to risk vs reward and which has the potential to give you the biggest bang for your buck and greatest organizational reward! Again, Any of the QB's I mentioned cannot be overshadowed by a OT and you know this. That is why you didn't even attempt to answer the question that was out there to be answered! When you take the best QB's of current and in the past 50 years, the QB was the General of the team, made it go! There are so many players I didn't even mention like Ken Stabler, Roger Staubach, Bart Star, Warren Moon, etc...you can go on and on about the importance of a franchise QB. Maybe that's why Mark Sanchez's nickname for the Jets has already become "Sanchize". Like I mentioned before, nobody discredits the importance of a good OLT, I would love to draft one of those as well: Bryan Bulaga who may or may not end up as a LT. He may shift to RT exclusively. I don't like Anthony Davis from what I have learned about his attitude and such. Trent Williams is versatile, but probably not as good as Bulaga at any one position..just more versatile on the line. So, yes I'd love an OT, Maybe even Saffold in the 2nd if we don't move back into the 1st round, but the move to make is to SELECT Clausen at #9 if he is available! I have my doubts rather he will be there and you may have to move up to #5 or #7 to get him...but that can be said for Bulaga or Williams as well. I am not asking you to change your opinion, and I won't change mine...again, there are hits and busts at each position in the draft, but the best chance to change the direction your organization is headed is to draft a QB that your organization believes can be the next franchise QB which we legitimely have not had since Jim Kelly got injured playing the Jacksonville Jaguars. History shows there is no disputing my point, unless your not going to really read and understand my post and instead change the subject, and try to make another point instead of sticking to the points I outlined. Happy Mocking! -

Good thing you weren't the GM when: Indy selected: Peyton Manning N. Eng selected: Tom Brady Buffalo selected: Jim Kelly Pittsburgh selected: Rothlesberger San Fran. selected: Joe Montana Now tell me just as quickly who were these teams OLT's.....woops, not quick enough! Would any of them have their SuperBowl rings or AFC Championships with a Trent Edwards, Fitzy, or Brohm? We both know the answer to this question and that is the reason you go for the QB!!!!!!!!!! You may have heard of the Tarkentons, Namaths, Youngs, and those Franchises were built around the QB!! Favre's etc...on and on.... Yes, OT'S are very important! but you can have a good offense with a marginal OLT ie: Blesdoes Bills the one year gave up 57 Sacks...about 10 more than last year yet was the 11th best offense in the NFL. 4,000+ yards passing...big time wr numbers and rb numbers...If the situation was reverse and that team had J. Peters and T. Edwards the production would have been far less!!!! This is all true and would be difficult to dispute!!! Get a QB!!!!!!!!! -
Well this guy has an extremely hard time grasping a NFL playbook...Green Bay is a solid organization and wouldn't have let another team have an opportunity to grab him if they felt he was worth keeping on the roster or practice squad. Being able to identify talent is one of the differences Buffalo has had when you compare them to GreenBay, Pittsburgh, New England, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, etc....I don't think it say's too much for the new regime if they really are given strong consideration to starting Brian Brohm. It sounds more like a cost cutting experiment than anything else. I think we will have severe difficulties with Brohm as the starter, although that may be the case with a drafted rookie as well. I think what you do is pick up a moderately talented QB in FA and have him as your starter while you still draft a rookie QB and groom him properly instead of throwing him into the fire right off the bat! I also think you have to trade or release Trent Edwards if you are serious as an organization about going in a different direction. That should be done soon in fairness to T.E. which may give him an opportunity for a backup role somewhere else or maybe a spot as a starter on the former Bills QB leaugue in the USF or whatever it's called. It would be interesting to see T.E. go against Lossman in the Can't make it in the NFL League!

I would be happy if we got some goodies for Lynch! Can't stand him!!

I enjoyed your reply once again! I don't know a whole hecu'va like about Campbell...I've heard both good and bad..Would love to hear the arguement for and against Campbell as "our" QB. If we pursued Campbell what round or player would be given up for him. I know one of the bloggers mentioned that we already have campbell soup when it comes to our more of the same crew of 3 onboard currently...and mentioned that it was more of the same kind of QB. What do most people think of Campbell in comparison to the 3 QB's we currently have in our soup kitchen????
