Optimism means never having to say we suck ... until after the game.

You didn't define a timeframe. But if people are looking at this season it's not too hard to figure. We are not going to have any passing game to speak of. So our offense will consist mainly of runs/screens/dump-offs. CJ has talent to be sure, but he seems to be a back that when given a seam, can scat through and make yardage. He does not seem to be a run it up the gut or break tackles kind of a guy (lacks size, not heart). With teams being able to key on the short game and our O-line, seams could be hard to come by. Will he be a bust 3 or 4 years from now when we are post-rebuild (please GOD)? Doubtful unless he gets too damaged in the next couple seasons.

Details of statement against Big Ben are released.

I'm not sure what the compelling history is. If I am not mistaken the other charge (Vegas?) was shown to be a gold digger so certainly you can't be going by that. The subject should hit close to home for all people, not just guys. If someones reputation can be ruined just by a allegation of rape (or anything else) without any evidence (not to mention potentially arrested and convicted) it should worry everyone. I'm not saying PigBen is innocent any more than I am saying he is guilty because I simply do not know (and either do you). But based on the facts I would say he at the very least showed exceptionally poor judgment having sex with her. Being who he is I have to believe there were any number of sober(ish) girls there willing to do him. -
But the real question is .... Duffs or Anchor

Plenty of trade options available for agressive GM

What don't people understand about rebuilding, and particularly rebuilding through the draft? We will have glaring holes this season, deal with it. If you go in thinking we are going to be in the 10-6 neighborhood and sniffing playoffs this season you need to step away from the crack pipe or you are going to be sorely disappointed. -
We should be able to draft a decent one next year, relax this is a long term rebuild. Don't get too excited by all the "we are going to be good this year" posts. We won't. But if they stay the course we should be respectable in 3 seasons.

Are we all sure it will be Edwards?
CodeMonkey replied to PS 56's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The good thing is Gailey should have an open mind and fairly evaluate all 4 of them and pick who he thinks is the best. The better thing is that 3 seasons from now, whoever is the starter now won't be then. -
Only QB worth a **** was Bradford in my opinion. Waiting for a strong QB class next draft makes sense to me. This is not a short term rebuild remember.

Probably most of the bottom 5 or 6 teams. -
Time to become a Denver fan
CodeMonkey replied to The Chief Corky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you wanted Nix to take Tebow at #9?? Lets face facts, the only QB in this years draft worthy of a first round pick (and maybe just worth a **** in general) was Bradford. If Nix had taken Tebow straight up at #9 I would be far more pissed than you seem to be now. I don't like Spiller at #9 either (like the kid, just not for us at #9) but Tebow at #9 ... holy !@#$ing reach Batman! All in all I'm a little disappointed they didn't trade #9 for a few more first and second picks instead of taking a smallish RB. But I figure this is a 3 year rebuild minimum so they can get a QB next draft (QB class seems to be a lot stronger anyway). -

Ryan Mallett - Arkansas -
I agree with not grading the draft. But Spiller was a big need pick? Well I guess they needed something to get the asses into the seats at the Ralph this season with no TO-ish FA signing. And a talented "waterbug" will certainly do that more than any lineman. So unless you meant that, I'm not sure what big need you feel a RB fills on this team.

Al Davis and Mike Shanahan make the Campbell Deal
CodeMonkey replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah it does seem like a bargain basement price. Particularly sad we missed out if Nix knew he wasn't going to draft a QB this year. A QB of the future he is not, but he is a clear upgrade to our current CFL caliber QBs. Ahh well, in Buddy we trust, right? -
Rationalizing the Spiller pick
CodeMonkey replied to MaineMoxie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah I suppose it could confuse the people watching on TV making them think there are watching a "vintage" college football game. And it might confuse the defense trying to decide if the Bills are going to run, or throw a screen. -
Thanks, it was almost a full week without reading a Ralph dying post.
-
Very true. Besides, I suspect he is happier it turned out this way anyway. So Ralph and Nix didn't want him (uh huh) and he ended up in Denver instead of Buffalo. Everyone wins! Well, except maybe Brady Quinn
-
I don't recall reading where anyone thought Spiller sucked or shouldn't be on the Bills. Some just question drafting him straight up at #9.
-
Seems like a nice kid.

According to this, Nix had no interest in Tebow at all. That is, of course, if you believe what Buddy is selling during this "interview". Which I don't - The Bills marketing machine put out that interview, just too quick and hardcore of a denial for me to believe it. It just smacks too much of "we didn't F up, we never wanted him in the first place".

Bills roll out "Truth About Tebow"

Could have been any of the top 4. There was serious talent up there. -
Bills roll out "Truth About Tebow"
CodeMonkey replied to scribo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So Nix claims he never had any plans to make any kind of play for Tebow. Assuming that's true and not a smokescreen color me even more confused over Spiller at #9. Ahhh well Buddy it is your team now. Go prove me wrong. -
Clausen suck factor validated

Won't it chap your ass if we trade up to get him now. -
You do realize you are talking about our possible starter this season now that we lost Tebow, right
-
Tom Brady: NFL Draft: 2000 / Round: 6 / Pick: 199 I have to admit disappointment so far. Not in Spiller himself, I have no doubt he will be an outstanding RB in the NFL. But I would have rather them traded down and gotten a extra 1st or 2nd instead. The only thing that makes sense to me is Nix went in wanting Spiller and Tebow. Then grab whatever linemen they could after that. If they didn't take Spiller at #9 they would have lost him. The plan then was to trade back up into the first (Lynch and a second maybe?) and take Tebow. Our rookie GM couldn't quite pull that off, but Denver was able to. Interesting situation in Denver now, trading for Quinn a month ago and now trading up for Tebow.
