All good points. But a deep threat is not a threat without the offensive line and QB that can get the ball deep. I don't see just the addition of Gailey and Co. changing that, at least not this season.
-
I didn't find much exciting about him being on the Bills last season past the marketing push to sell more seasons. I found it painful watching him struggle with our embarrassing offense until it broke his spirit and he just gave up. I'm happy to just have Lee Evans and a few new guys on the outside, at least until we have an offense in place that can take advantage of wide outs.

I can't imagine there was any way he would have resigned with the Bills even if the Bills offered. Our offense is the same as last season, except for what promises to be better coaching. But even with better coaching and play calling, we still don't have the ability to get the ball consistently to the wide outs. And he knows that all too well. I suspect TO is very happy to sign with a team not only with a strong offense and QB, but that also has a good chance to go deep into the playoffs. I wish him well, except for Nov 21st of course.

T.O. signs with Bengals
CodeMonkey replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2 + 2 in possible incentives. And we paid him what, 6.5 last year. Cinci is getting a pretty good deal and it should be a much better environment for TO. Seems like a good fit for both sides. -
Jets interested in signing T.O.

The last half of the season TO clearly had given up on the Bills. The offense could not get the ball to him (or anyone more than 5 yards downfield) and on the rare occasions they did, he dropped it half the time. But TO being TO, everyone knew that the ineptitude of the offense, particularly passing, was going to get on his nerves. You knew it, I knew it, and I imagine even Brandon knew it. No one in their right mind thought the Bills could utilize any #1 receiver last year, and TO was brought in to sell tickets. That ploy would not work again this season, the pass offense has not changed one bit (except to get worse by losing Reed) so there was no reason to pay TO any money. Bottom line, the Bills knew what was going to happen with TO. TO also knew. The Bills got what they wanted (record season ticket sales). TO got paid, even though being on the Bills wasted a year of his career. And as usual, the fans got screwed. Plenty of fault to go around. -

That's right, I forgot that Sanchez sucks too! Shouldn't even play those 2 games this season. Just mark them in the W column for the Bills. -

I guess we will have no problems beating the Jets this season then. Particularly if TO ends up there. Great news. -

62.5 yards per game average and a TD every other game (for 8). Maybe not with the Jets as I expect them to run a LOT this season and they have other receivers. Cinci should be a possibility for the yardage I would think. As to the TDs, that one is tough even at Cinci. -
I'd like to see them do away with the uber-gay dancing that someone seems to need to do every freaking play. You make a tackle, dance around. You break up a pass, dance around. Makes it look like professional wrestling out there.

Never said we should re-sign him. I didn't think we should have signed him in the first place, it was just a publicity stunt to sell tickets (and a successful one at that). But not because TO sucks, there is just no way in hell we were going to be able to use him with our ****ty offense. This is true for this season just as much as last. But there is no reason at all that another team, Cincinnati comes to mind immediately, couldn't get good production out of him. -

I get a kick out of some Bills fans thinking T.O sucks, but in the same breath will say how Lee Evans is a #1 WR. Well, keep those red and blue beer goggles all shined up because you just might see what a real #1 WR can do with a decent offense behind him ... even one who has aged past his prime like T.O. ... if he signs with the Jets. -
I agree. They are walking a fine line between wanting people to watch the game and keeping these overpriced players healthy. But the bottom line is, American Football without violence is pointless and doomed for extinction.

Previous years they had bounce house stuff up near the stadium and some music I believe. Cheaper hot-dogs and water in the stadium and cheaper tickets for the kids (full price for adults). But the big draw is that people are encouraged not to power drink in the parking lot before the game and the vast majority tend to follow that suggestion.

Better, worse, or the same?
CodeMonkey replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Assuming he even returns kicks, which is not a given, we already have very good return guys. I don't see us getting much better than we already were. Plus there are much more to special teams that just returning kicks. He does not help in those other areas at all. Net result = SAME. -
Maybe he had the cheaters at #6 but because they still have Tom Terrific he dropped them 3 places. Or ... he has them at #9 and thinks they will cheat themselves to #6?

DB: Your list Looks identical for both seasons which would be a result of SAME to me. Special teams: You are assuming Spiller contributes here. Even if he does, I would give this a SAME as well. Don't see fault in the rest of your thoughts. I break it down simpler than that. We lost 2 proven good starting receivers and picked up a (hopefully) good skatback. Upgraded to a mediocre head coach (which I agree is a big improvement). Player personnel is a slight downgrade overall. Coaching an upgrade. Somewhat tougher schedule (at least based on last seasons results). I see this season as a little worse than last year unless something extraordinary happens. But I do not see a 2-14 season as some are suggesting. -
99% huh ... well don't count me among "everyone". So if the Bills manage to stay reasonably healthy you must be expecting a playoff appearance this season then. We will see about your coaching hypothesis soon enough I suppose.

What "title" are we talking about? Superbowl champions? AFC champions? AFC East champions? NYS High School football champions? If history is an accurate guide, not during Gaileys tenure. He has been a mediocre coach his entire career and I expect the same now. So not within 3-5 years but I cannot comment if it will be within my lifetime or not. To many variables come into play 5+ years from now.

Bob Matthews: How The 2010 Bills Can Make The Playoffs
CodeMonkey replied to Thurman#1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually it is easy to see how there is a possibility for this team to have a worse record than last years. 1) More difficult schedule. 2) Almost completely new coaching staff. 3) New defensive scheme. 4) No starting caliber QB 5) Lost 2 starting receivers 6) Only addition of note is a rookie skatback. There is no doubt that this team, on paper anyway, is marginally worse than last years. The question is, can the new coaching staff, most notably the head coach, take essentially the same team that Jauron had and manage to do more with it. It won't be too long before we will begin to see if Jauron was as big of a problem as a lot of people thought, or not. -
Benefit of the doubt for Nix / Gailey
CodeMonkey replied to Skoobydum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agreed with your Spiller assessment at the time of the draft, and pretty much still do today. But I also have to believe that Nix and Gailey are not stupid and have a 3-4 year plan, and that Spiller fits into that long range plan. I have to believe this because if this is not true and they just went with the "best available" I would have to blow my brains out (overly dramatic? ). -

I've seen this written a few times but it makes no sense to me. On offense we have the same QB's as we ended last season, two of which they can't fear throwing the ball, and Brohm came off a practice squad. We have two fewer starting good receivers than we had last season. We augmented a already strong backfield with a rookie skatback, and have essentially the same line to block for them. Gee could this mean lots of running and short pass routes? No mystery there. On defense what's to know, we are switching to a 3-4. Where is the element of surprise there? How much or little we are going to blitz? They already have a pretty good idea of what we are going to try and do. The only mystery is, will will be able to do any of it.
