  1. Tried to rent the movie Sinister everywhere (heard it fuggin disturbing), but I could not find it. I ended up going with Prometheus. Not a true horror movie per se, but it came highly recommended by a friend at work. I guess it's the prequel to the 1st Aliens movie.

  2. Happy Friday!! The wife is going to play cards with her girlfriends tonight, so it's just me and the boy. I'm think of hitting up the Redbox on the way home and picking up a scary movie (my wife hates scary movies). Any recommendations on some good, recently released horror flicks?

  3. And why can't this hearing be tomorrow? This is in front of a University board, not the NCAA. This should be an asap issue.

The more this drags on, the more I suspect that Southerland's season will be over once his appeal is heard. No "inside info," just a hunch. His case was originally heard by the review board just prior to the Villanova game, and from what I heard (that's why I posted that he might be reinstated) the coaching staff felt really positive about the potential outcome. Obviously, the review board wasn't satisfied.

I just can't imagine what he could do between then and the next appeal to improve his standing. There are a lot of rumors floating around about the nature of his academic infraction. From what I have learned, popular opinion is that a Southy's tutor allegedly wrote at least part of one of his term papers for him. If this is the case, and they have sufficient evidence that this occured, then I just can't see how they would overturn something like that.

  4. What is the issue that bothers you about the size of his hands? How has it affected his game so far? If you prefer Manuel over Wilson because of his upside I can understand your position. But the hand issue has me perplexed? There is a good possibility that Nix passed on Russell Wilson in the third round because of his height. That was a mistake. The game tapes are more reliable clues to success than most physical traits and measurables.

While it's not the most important factor in evaluating QB's potential at the next level, hand size is certainly something that scouts consider. Hand size can be important for ball security, pump fakes, and the ability to get that nice rotation on the ball and create velocity without having to "muscle" your throws. Again, not the most important metric, but still a consideration. Some great QB's have had small hands....without doing research Kurt Warner comes to mind. I have read, however, that most scouts prefer at least 9.5" hands.

  5. Balmy +14 now in beautiful Anchorage. 30's tomorrow. Nothing like a maritime climate.

Anchorage is soooooo much nicer than Fairbanks. Funny, when I got a job offer in Fairbanks I also got a job offer in Anchorage City Schools. I chose Fairbanks because the salary was 7-8K more and they offered 5K in relocation reimbursement. Almost wish I made a different decision.

  6. The opera ("The Flower Duet") playing over this scene at the end was the same from "The Shawshank Redemption".

The commentary on the DVD talks about how they set the lighting for this scene for Hopper to do his side first. But he came to Tony Scott (RIP) and asked if he could have Walken how his side first because he thought he'd be able to react better. They had to have all the lighting redone, which is a big deal because these are all union guys that work the crew and it's a big expense. Scott agreed to it and it ended up being such a success - it appeared on an "Off Topic" thread on a forum for disappointed Buffalo Bills fans.

Interesting...can't imagine how that scene would have been done in reverse...Hopper going first with the Sicilians story.

  7. Chinooks is good and on the Fisherman's wharf up there. You can walk around the docks and check out all the fishing boats, including some of the Deadliest Catch boats, depending on time of year, and then go have dinner.

Good idea...we are actually going to Elliot's Oyster House on pier 58 (which I think is in the fisherman's wharf). Someone told me that there are seafood merchants in Pike's Market who serve seafood dishes right from their booth. Basically pull up a stool and have fresh oysters shucked for you. That sounds pretty cool.

My wife is determined to get a cup of Starbucks coffee from the original location in the market. I don't like Starbucks, but you know girls...there will be pic's on her damned facebook page.

  8. Hammersticks, Portland and Seattle are such cool cities..very different from the east coast (I grew up in the Cuse). I would leave a day just to check out the coffee shops, music stores, and simply walk around...Also I am sure that there is a cool "pub tour" like they have here in Portland. Prepare for the NW mellow my friend, people out here drive 10 below the speed limit and quit work at 3:30!

Very much looking forward to the trip. Never been to the northwest, unless you consider Alaska the northwest. A pub tour sounds awesome. I read an article recently that had like 4 or 5 of the top 25 pubs in the west right in Seattle! Definitely going to drink a lot of beer.

2-11 is also my birthday! Cool...

My wife always gets mad and calls me a kill joy when I say: "If you take 26 random people and ask them what their birthday is (just day and month), the probability is ALMOST one that 2 people will have the same birthday." Usually I say this when two people have the same birthday.

Anyway... Back in 1994 we did our honeymoon in Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria and all through BC up to Banff and Jasper, AB... Very nice in the NorthWest!

Cheers birthday buddy!! I actually have come across many people in my life who share my birthday. That honeymoon trip sounds great....thinking about spending a couple days in Banff on our way back down to the lower 48 this summer.

I was there last June for a conference. Pike place market is a must. Pike brewery right around the corner has excellent beers.

Thanks for the tip. I think my hotel is just a few blocks away from Pike Place Market. Eat at any good restaurants while you were there?

  9. I live down in Portland, but have enjoyed Seattle a bit over the past 10 years. El Gaucho steakhouse is unbelievable...expensive but a real treat. Excellent food and excellent service as well. I haven't personally been to it but I hear that the rock and roll museum is pretty cool as well (sort of on the south part of the city). If you had a vehicle I would also recommend a drive out on the olympic peninsula - it is beautiful

I heard about the rock and roll museum, and we're definitely planning on checking it out. Also heard that there is a good art museum nearby.

  10. Mrs. Hammersticks and I will be traveling to Seattle for a professional conference in February (11th-15th). We have never been there, and are looking for some suggestions for good dining, bars, museums, entertainment, etc... The 11th of February is my birthday, and I LOVE French food, so we made reservations at this restaurant called Maximilien (located in Pikes Place Market). This restaurant came highly recommended by a friend who ate there this summer, but I am open to suggstions of people think there is a better French restaurant in town.

For Valentine's Day, the wife and I decided to make reservations at Elliot's Oyster House. We both love raw oysters, and the menu seems to offer a wide variety of other seafoods. Again, would be open to other suggestions (oyster bar part is a must).

Otherwise, we have no plans and a great deal of down time to explore Seattle. Interested to hear about those "must see" things that tourists usually aren't aware of.

BTW...we are staying at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel on 6th Avenue and will be walking/cabbing wherever we choose to go. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice

  11. Fauria would be cool opposite Chandler

Fauria is a beast!! Would love to see him in a Bills uniform. 46 catches and 12 TD's this season. Glad to see that he couldn't participate in the East/West Shrine Game (due to minor injury) because I'm hoping he stays below the radar. He will probably light it up at the combine though.

  12. This is just an educated guess on my part, but I sincerely doubt you'll have to trade back into the first round for Manuel. He was looking like a 3rd round pick prior to the Senior Bowl, but there's a chance he's a 2nd rounder now.

Most likely 3rd at best on a few team's boards, although I'd suspect he's hovering around the 4th-6th rated QB on most boards.

This. I'd say there is a decent chance Manuel is on the board when we select in the 3rd.

  13. WOW! Good luck! Stay strong. How much snow on the ground? Does it even snow @ those extreme cold temps?

It does snow when it gets into the positives, but that is infrequent. When it does snow, however, it stays all winter long as you might imagine. I think we probably have about 12-18 inches total on the ground presently.

  14. Well then, that sucked. According to Pomeroy we were a 97% favorite with the ball up 3. MCW WTF. Complete tire fire the last 5 min's.

+1 on Cooney being the worst sharpshooter in history. Reminds me of that tall Nova white kid who transferred from Duke a few years ago - good reputation somehow but just consistent airballs.

The analytics say Pitt is a much better team than what the polls say so it's likely we'll be a slight underdog on the road. We'll see if there's any truth to this idea that we play better in that role.

Jamie Dixon always seems to have his team ready to play Syracuse, especially on the road. This game is going to be a dog fight.

  15. How the hell do you live in Fairbanks? Not like I live in hawaii 18 years in ANC but every time I look at temps up there I think thank God it's not me.

-50 with dense ice fog this morning

It's horrible...you are pretty much imprisoned in your home for 6-7 months out of the year. I hate it here, and I'm moving back East in June.

  16. I think u meant Milliner but agree he is made for today's football. Chance Warmack or Fisher(If Levitre flies) and then move Glenn to G and blow the Pats 'D' off the line for a few years.

I like Dion Jordan and the DE from UCLA, although #8 may be a little high for him.

And I love Sweringer and Holloman from So. Car. later on in the draft. Much better hitters and much better players than Rambo. and Shaun Williams from Georgia. Those two like to do everything but tackle ---> see Alabama game.

I know we have other glaring needs, but even if Levitre does not leave, I think these two guys get strong consideration (especially Fisher). The Bills have an opportuniy here to build one of the most dominate offensive lines we have ever seen here in Buffalo. I heard Mayock say that Fisher "is Joe Thomas with quicker feet." That's sayin something right there.

  17. I've seen about 20 of Nassib's games, and trust me, he doesn't get much better at all.

He seems less lousy than he is because he played in the Big East where the expectations aren't high for QB's. And he looks good to you because we've had crap at QB for a while, and Nassib is a local, available, product.

But the fact is, he has severely limited mobility, mediocre arm strength, and simply can't make alot of the throws.

This kid is a solid 4th rounder. -And that's being generous. If not for a few desperate GM's trying to go back in time, we're talking 6th rd-UDFA for this kind of talent.

I'm not in love with Nassib, but "severely limited mobility," "mediocre arm strength?" I agree that he has accuracy issues, and tends to float his deep balls too much, but the kid has plenty of arm strength. One of his strengths, IMO, is his ability to throw on the run. Severely limited mobility? Makes me think you haven't watched any of his games.

I'd take him in the 3rd if he were there....maybe a trade up to late 2nd.
