  1. You can never have too many draft picks. The 49ers have 13 of them, and will likely be able to maneuver around in the draft to grab their favorite prospects. I don't think it's a huge deal that we won't have a 7th rounder this year, but I think folks have become accustomed (in the past few years) to having an extra 4th rounder and an extra late round pick. Also, I think folks are panicking (rightfully so) because we have so many glaring holes to fill, and have yet to close those gaps in free agency.

  2.

I love this kind of list. I think there are 6 blue bloods. Who would you leave off?:

    Kentucky

    UNC

    Kansas

    Duke

    UCLA

    Indiana

I don't know what the criteria is for consideration as a "blue blood" NCAA basketball program....perhaps the main criteria is national championships. I will say, however, that if you take into account the entire resume, IMO Syracuse at least belongs in that conversation. Taking into consideration the following stats:

    1. Syracuse is the 5th winningest program in D1 basketball history, trailing only Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, and Duke.

    2. Syracuse has the 6th highest winning percentage in D1 basketball history.

    3. Syracuse has 43 consecutive winning seasons, the longest active streak in D1 basketball.

    4. Only Syracuse, Duke, and Kansas have been to at least one final 4 in each of the last 5 decades.

    Pretty impressive.

  3. http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2013/apr/08/mens-basketball-interesting-list-of-coaches-fgcu/

G-MAC's name among assistant coaches being considered for FGSU's head coaching vacancy. Perhaps that rumor about him being considered for the Sienna job wasn't that far off base. I highly doubt he will get the job...I suspect they will try to hire a "big name" after their run in the tournament, but it's interesting that Gerry is getting consideration after only 2 years as an assistant.

  4. So our defacto owner / marketing man Brandon's slogan for the year will be: We're gonna suck but at least we didn't overpay (like we did last year). Brandon is a tool.

A tool because he didn't go out and frantically over-spend on FA's knowing that we need to preserve cap space to sign out own to contract extensions (i.e., Byrd, Wood, Spiller)? A fool because he brought in 3 pretty quality FA's in Lawson, Branch and Kolb for bargain contracts? How would you have done it differently?

BTW....I guarantee you the Bills are not done in FA.

  5. I throw another baseless cuse basketball rumor out there.....Rakeem Christmas pondering a transfer to.....wait for it......Temple???????? That's the word around the campfire! Again, if it happens you heard it here first! If it turns out to be complete BS, you didn't hear it from me!

Please feel free to use the ignore function if my gibberish is growing tiresome

  6. My first student teaching assignment was a kindergarten class of about 25 kids in Dunkirk (so about 1/3 didnt even speak English), so Im pretty well versed, thanks.

Like I said in my first post, I did something similar when I was in 1st grade. Had a disruptive haircut and got sent home to fix it. Now if my parents protested to protect their "sweet, innocent, special, unique angel" for no reason, then it may have turned into a bigger deal. But my parents arent self-centered idiots.

The last sentence sums it up: "Ethan didn’t go to school Friday, but will return to class Monday with a shaved head, Castle said."

Done. There was no need for this to be a story. Whether it was a mohawk, or a helmet that lights up, or whatever, it doesnt matter. It was causing a disturbance and the school asked the family to remove it. It's done right there. Not a big deal either way.

I switched out of Education my sophomore year, so I dont have the Special Ed experience that would be required.

Well, clearly you're an expert in the area of educational law, policy and ethics. I suppose I will need to defer to your expertise in this matter Dr. "student teacher" dareustein, as you are so well-versed

  7. Incredible game. Was a dogfight until the very end. Siva and Hancock were amazing, and the Louisville bigs did a really nice job containing McGary. Probably one of the most entertaining nat'l championship games I've watched in a long time. Congrats to Louisville....representing the conference formerly known as the Big East!!

  8. I believe it's "suspended from school... unless they simply cut his hair". So again, it comes back to the parents. The same ones who made the initial decision to give him that haircut. They could've simply spent 5 minutes with the clippers out and this would have been nothing. Instead they ran to the media and now it's a "thing". The school has to have the power to make calls on disruptive dress, and when they use it the parents should respect it.

Once again, like almost every other issue facing education, it comes down to the parents.

It's like...a mohawk haircut dude! I still don't get what the big deal is here. Spend a few days sitting in a kindergarten or first grade classroom, and maybe you will understand where I'm coming from. A mohawk haircut, disruptive to the extent that the kid needed to be removed from school? Sheesh!! That's it...I'm pulling out my clippers when I get home and giving my son a mohawk....and I'm going to dye it bright green!!! F the man!! haha

  9. I agree with what you say, but I would not be surprised if Hardaway went pro. I will miss Burke a lot, but I am thrilled to see Michigan back at being a powerhouse in basketball.

    GO BLUE!

In this weak draft class, I guess I wouldn't be shocked to see Hardaway leave early. Might be a late-first round pick. I don't think he's going to amount to much in the NBA though. Probably an overseas pro at best.

  10. Yup, cause nothing improves education like the local tax base having to fork over hundreds of thousands of dollars to some idiot redneck.

You make a good point, and I agree that my initial reaction was over the top. IMO, however, there should be some consequences/corrective action taken against the individual who was responsible for making this decision. Being suspended from a public school for having a mohawk haircut? Trust me, this same consequence would not be handed down to a student whose parent was an attorney (for example) and not some "idiot redneck."

  11. Gbinije looks like the real deal, but I think the key is Ennis. Basically if he doesn't pan out into a reliable PG, we are screwed.

I actually have a feeling that our entire offense will run through our bigs, with fair and Coleman (yes, Coleman!) being our leading scorers.

By the way, I am basically writing cooney off. you can just tell-- he'll never be more than a 10 minute guy.

Ennis is definitely the key, as we will not have another "go-to" ball handler amongst the guards. I don't know about our offense running through our bigs, but I agree (or at least I'm hopeful) that DC2 will make strides and contribute on offense. I guess I don't consider Fair to be one of our "bigs," but I see him as being an integral part of our offense.

I have watched Ennis several times this year, including yesterday's high school national championship game, and he appears to be the real deal. Obviously a phenominal ball-handler and creator with the dribble penetration, but he has something that MCW was lacking...a silky smooth jumper. He is smaller than MCW, however, so we will lose that length at the top of the zone. Also, Ennis is not as aggressive defensively as MCW, so he probably won't be getting as many steals. Ennis has played through a nagging shoulder sprain for much of the season. He's a tough SOB though...plays right through the pain. He's the type of player who wants the ball in his hands in key moments. Has ice water in his veins.

One freshman who is I see sneaking in and making an impact is 6'8" forward Tyler Roberson. His nickname is "the beast" and he plays like one. Regarded as a tremendous defender and rebounder, Tyler actually has pretty well developed post moves and is a consistent mid-range shooter. Scouts believe he still will grow a couple inches, and with some time in the weight room, could be a viable power forward. Next season, I could see him getting some minutes spelling CJ Fair.

    Here's Tyler "the beast" Roberson:

  12. Im sure other kids have even had mohawks/fauxhawks at that school. The problem is, in this one case, the 5 year olds most likely became fixated on it, and that was that. Once they get stuck on something that is right in the room and isnt going away, it's tough to reel them all back in.

No need to further the already over-litigious generation. Just trim it down into a flat top or buzzcut and send him back to school. No need to make a huge deal over it as if this child's "rights" have somehow been violated.

I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree about this one. There is absolutely no reason why this student should have been denied his federally mandated right to a free and appropriate public education (even for a couple of days) just because he had a mohawk haircut. Again, I am in classrooms every single day, and I regularly witness student behavior that is far more disruptive than a silly haircut. If the teacher's classroom management skills were so poor that they were unable to control their class, then they should have been the one to receive some sort of corrective action.

I tend to agree with the "over-litigious generation" sentiment, but god help these school officials if this were my child. The administrator who made the decision to imposed this disciplinary action would have hell to pay. Fortunate for them, it sounds like this parent does not know their rights, and does not have the resources to advocate for their child.

Exactly. I mean come on... It is ridiculous (the hair cut). You are spot on about these fads. Yeah again, stupid cut but, pretty conservative as mohawks go... It isn't like a Glen Plake (skier) mohawk (which I THINK is the traditional mohawk)... So, the kid gets a crew cut/flat top or does this kinda mohawk. Big deal... Tell the rest of the rug rats to simmer down or they are riding the pine in front of the principal's office...

This was a public school, right?

Exactly...I mean I could see if the kid has a penis shaved into the side of his head or something of that nature, but really, a mohawk? You have got to be freakin kidding me!!

  13. Had very hard water living in CNY....pretty much felt your skin cracking as soon as you dried off from your shower. We don't have that problem here in Fairbanks, Alaska though...all we have to worry about is the arsenic in the water :death:

  14. what kind of dumbass parent gives a kindergarden kid this haircut?

I've been an educator for 8 years, and have seen these fads come and go. I see kids with mohawks running around all the time. If this kid's haircut is the worst of the teacher's problems, and it is so distracting that it is disrupting the learning of the other students, then she shouldn't be a teacher. This story is completely absurd. I hope the parents sue the crap out of this school district.

  15. Look out for them down the road. They are you youngest team in the tourney.

So? It's not 1976, they're not sticking around.

Trey Burke most certainly is going to enter the draft, but McGary (Fr) has already said that he will be staying for another season. Also, Glenn Robinson III (Fr.) and Tim Hardaway (Jr) aren't going anywhere. Plus, they're adding 3 top 100 recruits for 2013 (2 top 40). They're going to be good for a while.
