Week 6 Postgame Thread KC at Bills
billsfan89 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are a few things the team can do realistically. First is fire Frazier, second is sign a run stuffing DT, third is cut Butler. fourth is to play Zimmer some more and fifth is get Milano back healthy. That should help the rush defense and LB play. The harder fix is going to be the pass rush. Hughes is shot, Addision is a supplemental player and Ed Oliver isn't rushing up the middle like he needs to. If I were McBeane I would call up Minny and offer a 2nd for Yannick. Minny isn't going anywhere and Yannick is on a one year deal (and you can cut Murphy to help with the cap hit.) I think the defense can be fixed. Remember last season weeks 7-11 when the defense was giving up 200 yards on the ground to bad teams? They turned it around. McD called the defense again, they brought in Lugiet, and Milano came back. A little bit more is needed this time but it is possible they turn it around. -

The defense had a lot of issues getting off the field on third and long. But in the end KC scored 26 points below their average of 30. Bass misses a long field goal to end the half, Josh leads the offense to two punts in the third quarter and KC converts a couple of third and longs when it was a one score game late. That's the game right there. It happens, just have to rebound against the Jets. -

The offense just wasn't able to keep pace. You knew you were going to get limited touches and you punted twice in the third quarter and still it was a one possession game late. -

I hope Mongo coming back helps the nasty streak of the O-line. I don't think the O-line was the real issue. I think it was mostly on Josh. I think he just made some key mistakes. -

Not sure what you mean but the gameplan basically knew KC was going to put up points and the best way to maybe limit them was to force them to run and get them to stall in the redzone and maybe get a turnover or two. Then on offense have long scoring drives to limit Mahomes chances to score. This was a one possession game late into the 4th. The offense just wasn't able to keep pace. -

I also saw Zimmer makings some productive plays and playing hard. Not saying he should start but he should get some rotational snaps out there. I think the defense needs some energy. -

Game Plan was to limit the number of possession and hope the offense was good enough to score consistently on long drives. It worked somewhat in the first half when the team was one 52 yard field goal away from being tied. But in the second half Josh led the offense to two punts. That was the game. -

Milano coming back should help the LB play. I think they should also fire Frazier and cut Butler and sign Snack Harrison or another big stuffing DT (Also play Zimmer more dude played hard out there.) Those things should improve the defense. But the pass rush might be a harder fix. If I were Beane I am calling Minny and offering a 2nd round pick for Yannick and then cutting Murphy. -

Honestly they should fire Frazier and cut someone on the D-line (I would say Butler), sign another run stuffing DT and play Zimmer more. This defense needs to have some more fire under them. I feel they have gotten a bit soft with a lot of players getting paid. Firing the DC and cutting a player can send a message to the team that you are still playing for your jobs. -

It worked in the first half when the offense was able to move the ball. One 52 yard kick and they go in tied. It is a bad plan in that it demands near perfection from Josh to at least get 3 points on each possession. But then again any gameplan against KC demands 30ish points on offense. -

I think they need to cut Butler and go after Snacks Harrison or another big body DT. Play Zimmer more. That and Milano coming back should help somewhat. But what's going to be a harder sell is getting more from the pass rush. If I were Beane I would call up Minny and see if they want a 2nd for Yannick. -

The gameplan was likely to dare KC to run and throw short. Hopefully you then force a turnover or two and a few field goals. You then hope your vaunted offense could score on limited possessions on long drives. Josh punted twice on two possessions in the third and Bass missed a kick late in the half. That was the game. -

KC played similar to how Baltimore played Josh in 2019. Just a lot of blitzes. I think you can coach Josh up on how to beat a blitz esp with the receiving core he has. -

Agreed, a 52 yarder in the rain isn't an easy kick. I am not blaming Bass, it was just something that could have given this team a sense of momentum going into the second half. The two punts in the third were killers. You know the game plan is to limit possessions so you have little room for error. -

The point was that the defensive game plan held KC to below their scoring average. Josh and the offense punted twice in the third quarter and it was why KC had a two possession lead and despite that quick scoring drive KC was just able to grind the clock and kick a field goal. The defense needs at least 2 pieces (a run stuffing DT and a pass rusher) and Milano back but its not as tragic as people are making it out to be. -

The gameplan was very Pats like in a sense. They wanted to limit the possessions and basically keep it to a one possession game the whole way and take your chances that you make the plays late. The defense gave up 26 points. The offense punted twice in the third quarter and Bass missed a field goal late in the first half. That's all she wrote. Bass making that kick and Josh scoring at least 3 on one of those possessions makes things much different. -

I worry that a lot of the defensive guys got paid and maybe they don't have that heart. Hughes, Addision, Tre, Poyer and several other defenders either got new contracts or extensions. I hope they get Zimmer more snaps he was one of the bright spots. -

The punts in the third quarter really killed the Bills chances. Even 3 points on one of those possessions keeps the Bills in the game more. -

The combined record of the teams is 9-1. One was a weird Tuesday game the other was a one score game late. I am not ready to give up on this team just yet. -

Do you really think Henry and Murphy were making a difference? Milano might have made a play or two but let's not act like he is the best LB in the league either. Zimmer played well made some big plays. -

KC went into this game averaging 30 points a game, the defense gave up 26. I honestly put this loss on the offense. Just 7 points in the second half is not going to cut it. The defense despite all the yardage given up put this team in a position to win. It was the offense that couldn't score. -

KC probably would have played more aggressively to score a TD
