  1. Not me. Best case scenerio is McNiel comes in as a FA. In that case I still target the best T in the draft because one tackle is not enough to help this line. Hang leaves much to be desired at C and Wood shifting there fixes that. But who plays G? Butler going back is an option but he has his ACL to worry about. Even if he can play we need a G or T to fill in where ever he is not. IMO you HAVE to jump at the chance to get two bookend tackles and hope Butler can come back from injury to play G. If not Hang can hold down the spot until Butler is back. Even with all that we are still in need of more depth along the interior, because as of right now NONE of our backups inside belong in the NFL.

Aaron Rogers has shown he is one of the better QBs in the league. He is playing great even with getting no protection, but while his play is very high the sacks that result in negative yardage are killing their team. I heard on ESPN this week that only one time this season, last week vrs TB, has Rogers been sacked AND the Packers have had that drive produce points. AKA if Rogers gets sack, drive over. So while great blocking is not imperative to QB success, it is imperative to team success. The Bills have had zero success recently, and it relates directly to the OL.

I agree with your point about the OL. I do believe that a good QB can make a bad OL look better and vice versa. We obviously need many things in the draft. Maybe we should draft the best 2 OL'men in the draft with our first 2 picks available. Then go all LB's with the rest of the picks. I would personally be ok with that. But if we do that we need a QB. Trent, Fitz are not getting it done. I understand with a better line they might be better, but they still arent making the right decisions. Maybe we can trade Lynch for something of worth or extra picks. That would work IMO. I also believe Kolb is a FA this year. I would be all about taking him at QB if we got our line cleaned up. The guy had two 300+yrd games in his first 2 starts ever. It seems like he can play. Just dont offer him any Rob Johnson kind of contracts.

  2. It's funny no one is beating the drum on the Byrd pick now. I'm sure I could go back and find some nice posts about that one.

OMG, so right about that one. Im not sure what pick the fans of this board hated more, Byrd or Maybin. Seems everyone has shut up about Byrd at this point.

  3. Man, all of this drafting a QB talk is way too premature. It will do no good to have Tom Brady or one of the Manning's under center if he is always on his arse.

The Bills need an offensive line. I like Wood, Hangartner, Levitre, and Butler. McKinney is good depth. I hope that Meredith and Bell do mature into starting offensive tackles for the Bills, but neither should be starting right now.

Chambers is horrible. I'm not too fond of Scott.

Right now, with losing Chambers and Scott and having both MEredith and Bell on the #2 roles at the tackle positions, the depth would be ok. This would also give a project like Bell time to mature and grow into the position.

But a real LT (I would draft #1 this year on a LT), and perhaps a later round RT and/or free agent would help round out the line.

Any other focus other than the line would be a colossal mistake (that includes picks for the secondary).

I agree with just about everything you said except I think Butler could be our RT (he woudl have been this year if not for injury) and play well enough to be decent to good.

Draft the best OL'men in the draft with your 1st pick, possibly a QB if there is a decent one there with your 2nd pick, or a starting caliber LB (Poz, Mitchell, Ellison just arent cutting it). But all this means absolutely nothing if we still have the same FO, Coachs, Scouts making the picks.

  4. I am of the belief that you need to build your team from the trenches out, but that being said, I'm not sold on Trent. If Trent continues to struggle, would you go with a top lineman for the Offensive Line, or do you go with a top QB like Bradford or McCoy? If you take the line and stick with Edwards or a FA the QB play may be awful next season, but the line would be improved, OR do you go top QB in the draft and worry about the line in the future?

I personally would have to wait until FA happens. Obviously if there is a decent QB, or LT/RT that is there for the taking at FA that totally changes my draft plans. Someone posted in another thread to make a run at McNabb during the offseason. That may be a possibility it may not be, but if we could get some decent FA QB I would be all for drafting the best OL'men in the draft with our first pick and get the best QB with our second. Gives us a chance to be competitive right away if we happen to pick a stud OL'men while letting a rookie QB learn behind an experienced QB. And if we fail because the FA QB sucks we have the QB waiting to take over the reigns.

  5. he's not 5'10". they may list him at that but he's a lot smaller. even the broadcasters on MNF were commenting how he's around 5'5" to 5'6"

Honestly, I dont think anyone is going to care what Joe Buck, or Troy Aikman, or Solomon Wilcots has to say about the guys size. The NFL and Washington Redskins list him at 5'10". I also have a friend that played against London in college, he laughed when he heard claims that he was 5'5". I'm not sure about all of you, but I think I'll take the NFL and my good friend's word for it when they say he is 5'10".

On another note, if the NFL lies about his height by 5-6 inches does that mean they lie about Roscoe's weight at 175lbs?

  6. I didn't get that impression at all. I thought he came across as a crusty old guy that told it like it was.

Even if I weren't a Bills fan and big Marv fan - I think I would have to say this is one of my instant favorites.

You and I differ there as I thought it was easily one of the worst ones they have done. I also am not a believer that Marv was anything more than an average coach and doesnt deserve the accolades he has received by being a babysitter. And some times like when the players were out til 6am the nights before the Superbowls, a bad babysitter to boot.

  7. You can keep saying that for the next three years, hoping he develpes, and Ill keep saying "I told you so"

Im a fan of bringing in the new coach like you hope happens. I also feel the same way. We will not go anywhere with Dick as the HC. He consistantly loses us games that are winnable.

I personally dont think Maybin is a "bust" yet. You are correct that the developing of him after another year would be rediculous. We cut him lose if thats the case. Or just make him a backup and eat the contract.

I am a firm believer that Maybin will be converted to an OLB (and will be a good one) once we get out new coach. Either we switch to a 3-4 or the new coach just tells Aaron the way it is and hes not big enough to be a solid DE in the league. A real coach with some nuts would have done that already, especially considering the lack of starters, and talent we have at LB.

  8. Shuffle them around, it's the Wilson way:

Dick = Defensive Coodinator (Dick being the loyal guy he is, takes the demotion, takes the pay cut)

    Fewell = Special Teams Coordinator

    April = Offensive Coordinator

Van Pelt = Back to QB's coach (next most worthy candidate for demotion)

    Billoick = Head Coach

    I'd be cool with this.

I dont understand peoples infatuation with Bobby April. Can someone please explain why we need a coach that takes roster spots from the important positions in football? Bobby April constistantly gets his pick of draft picks and thats why we end up with guys like Roscoe Parrish at WR, or Stamer, Corto, Digorio, Wire playing LB or S. Its ok to have 3 or 4 players dedicated for key special teams positions, but having every backup on your team suck just so you can have fast, high motor guys on kickoffs is a joke. I say Bobby April should be the first to go. And everyone whos going to say that he has consistantly had the best ST's in the game for years I would like to ask you when the last time ST's really won us a game. Hes had good returners in Parrish, McGee, McKelvin for years, the best punter in the game, and a solid kicker. Pretty sure thats all you would need to show a good ST unit. Besides the fact that ST's is the least important of the 3 units that take the field on Sunday. We sacrifice potential football players for a bunch of misfits that can run downfield 60yrds but cant make a tackle on defense, or catch a ball on offense.

Flame away if you will, but it makes no sense to have a decent to good or even great ST unit if we dont have an offense and defence first.

  9. Hostage? No way. Someone who is willing is not a hostage.

I read these 2 sentences many times, and it is still a mind boggling concept to me. I'm not putting you down, as there are many who feel exactly the same way you do. But in my feeble mind these two statements together do not compute ...

    My translation ...

I'm being sold a bad product, but I will continue to buy it as long as it exists.

    or

Man, this 6 month old spoiled milk tastes really bad and I puke every time I drink it. I'll take another gallon every week please.

Does not compute ... does not compute ... (traces of smoke escaping from brain) :wallbash:

My point is I love the City, love football, love the Bills, love the experience, and love being one of the 32 places on the planet that gets to watch football 8...er...7 times a year. I will always go to games as long as it is possible. But that doesnt mean that what I watch on the field is worth a sh*t. Right now its close to as bad as it ever has been. Everyone who has been a Bills fan, or lived in the City of Buffalo and supported this team deserves better than an old man who cant even go to the bathroom on his own to make the decisions for this team. It is what it is but its a joke to every other team in the league and the fans that follow them.

  10. If you can run the ball you don't need to pass the ball!!!

Here's a quiz ... Name ONE QB that lead the league in passing yards that won a SB that same year.

2009 passing yards to date @ # 19 Kurt Warner, #16 Jason Campbell, #15 Eli Manning, #1 Aaron Rodgers

Thats almost unfair to ask. You could ask the same question for rushing yards, or receptions, or receiving yards, or TD's for any position or yards against the run, or pass, or both. Its a team sport. Which brings me to this next point. Trent is the leader of this team and as the leader of this team should take it upon himself to bring them to the next level and he doesnt. The entire team has played flat for the last 3 years. Maybe its Trent, maybe its Dick, maybe its the playcalling and the horrible OC's. The truth is that with the constant being Trent, Dick, and the bad OC's they should all go. We have dealt with this crap for way too long. Why is it that other teams can make changes from one year to the next, or teams like the Eagles draft WR's in the draft and get them to produce right out of the box, or QB's become good by the end of their first or 2nd year. Stats can be flawed in many ways to look better for one team/player or the next. But year after year Trent and this team continues to struggle. Its a trend not a coincidence. The QB, Coaching Staff need to go.

  11. There was a great interview with Jim Schwartz yesterday and he addressed several things that come up in discussions about Jauron.

    1) "Hope is not a plan." He is always hoping that players will step up, but his plan is to build a team that wins football games consistently. Replacing people that aren't getting the job done is a fact of life in the NFL.

    2) "Injuries are a fact of life." Injuries will happen in the NFL and talking about how good you'd be if you were healthy is nonsense. In order to build a winning football team, your plan has to be to build a complete team that has depth and has guys that are ready to step up when injuries can and do occur.

    3) "Take your shots." You have to have a QB that is a leader and who is willing to experience some failure before greatness and has the right mentality to deal with it. He's totally convinced Stafford has the mental acuity, toughness, and work ethic to be a great QB.

    4) "It's not about systems." As the head coach, he has to figure out what works best for the guys he has and put them in the right schemes and situations. He specifically targeted assistants with tons of NFL experience so that they could adapt to the players they had and continue to adapt to the new players they bring in.

All very good/valid points. One thing that comes to mind when I think of Jauron, I think of a coach that tried to draft his players, and change his players to adapt to his (failing) system. With good teams you see the opposite. For example you dont see the Patriots, Saints or Colts lighting up the rushing stats each week and each year. You dont see Baltimore, Miami, Carolina lighting it up in the passing column either. Good teams adapt to make their players better not the other way around.

  12. Personally, I'm kind of targetting Jimmy Claussen. Good athlete who learned a pro-style offense. Think we can get a tackle in round two. It's time to put the QB in place.

I was just about to say the same thing. Claussen is probably my choice at QB. If you think you can get him in the 2nd, which i dont think is possible then you take him with your 1st and draft the highest OL'men in the 2nd regardless of what position he plays. Take the most talented one. Butler, Wood, Levitre, and Hangartner can all be moved around to different positions if needed.

  13. $185k per year is a ridiculous amount of money, but you'd have to think that if he hit FA, he would have gotten that from anyone and probably played on a better team. Maybe Moulds told him the grass isn't always greener.

Id be willing to bet that happened. They seemed very freindly when I saw them both signing autographs once. Im putting money on it that Moulds wasnt happy with his career after Buffalo.

  14. He's the guy Marv wanted and still supports. That's all it took. Words didn't and wouldn't have made a difference.

Not blasting...just the way it is...

I understand that and know you are not bashing. Im just saying its absolutely funny that some people still want him here. FO, Fans, Players when all they have to do is look at his previous lack of success as a HC in the NFL. I think the opening statement of the article is a perfect quote from Dick.

"We're a good football team when we're healthy. How good, I don't know."

  15. I was bored at work and thought I would take a look at what some of the reports were when Dick was with his other teams. I came across a few different ones like how he completely screwed up the QB position when he didnt start a young Rex Grossman, or how his players were constantly injured, or how he had cake walk training/mini camps. This article pretty much summed up what Dick Jauron is and has been with the Buffalo Bills. Its almost like you could take the Bears players names out and insert Bills players and you could use this article tomorrow in the Buffalo News and it would be correct.

Anyway, I thought it was funny that for his career he has been the same guy, making bad decisions. Can someone tell me again why is he still here or still in the NFL as a HC? To all the Dick lovers out there please read this and try and make an argument that you can clearly state why he should still be here. Its exactly the same scenario as Chicago and they made the Super Bowl with much of the same talent just 3 years after his final season. Hmmmm.

  16. Amazing how he had no problem getting open for Bledsoe and JP. You think it might be the QB.......

Minnesota's WR's couldn't get open until Farve came. Atlanta's WR's couldn't get open until Ryan showed up.

Evan's would be a pro bowler if we had a consistant qb. Mould's career should be an example of how bad quarterbacking can have an impact on WR's.

I really like Evans but he is too undersized and not nearly physical enough to be a solid #1. Look at any playoff team and he is most likely the #2 WR on any of those teams.

Lets take last years playoffs as an example:

    Steelers- Ward

    Ravens- Mason

    Colts- Wayne

    Chargers- Jackson

    Giants- Should have been Burress

    Panthers- Smith

    Cardinals- Boldin, Fitzgerald

Even the other teams in the playoffs had quality WR's that are probably as good as Evans. Im not going to do the leg work to find out, and its all my opinion anyways. I just dont think he is big and physical enough.

  17. Previous post I wrote on another topic:

"I personally dont believe that Dick will ever (barring a few lucky games) have a winning season in football ever again as a head coach. For this reason I believe that he is the main reason why we have missed the playoffs the last 3 years. 3-4 straight years of injuries is not a coincidence it is a trend with this team and Dick is the constant. He has gone through 3 different OC's, tried out 3 QB's, botched up the RB situation, failed to sign/draft a legitimate WR when we needed one 3 years ago, failed to sign/draft actual players at DE and LB, failed in the scouting department and with the draft, horribly failed at clock/game management.

IMO the only thing he was able to be successful at is providing an above average secondary (you would think after so many DB's anyone could get it right tho), and buying additional time as a HC in the league since he should have been fired 2 years ago.

I for one am glad to lose every single game until Dick is gone. It sucks to swallow that pill now, but it will be much better in the future knowing hes not here to F*&K up this franchise."
