  2. To the credit of the NCAA, it has set up a program where a player can get a low-cost loan for the premium and pay it later. Typically, a $5 million policy will cost anywhere from $45,000 to $65,000, Salgado said. "This insurance program is in place to protect against a career-ending injury, but should not be confused with a 'loss of value' policy, which the NCAA does not offer, "http://sports.yahoo....-223714245.html
  3. if you have a career ending injury....you can still go back to school and get your diploma......but the oppurtunity to cash in at the NFL level is gone or at minimum met with financial disaster. a serious injury could easily knock you out of the first round. i assume most juniors who come out early (a record 74 underclassmen declared for the 2013) NFL draft , do NOT graduate unless they go back at a later date and finish. i don't think these kids owe colleges anything....in fact its just the opposite...as colleges are enriching themselves at their expense. i recognize for the majority of scholarshipped players, a college degree is nothing to sneeze at. heck, there are hundreds of cases, where individual families are stuck with astronomical out of pocket medical costs/bills that aren't covered under the various insurances provided. all i'm saying is, for many elite TOP athletes, like Clowney who will go Top 5 whether he plays or not......he should lower his risk of injury by electing to sit out the year.....and just prepare for the combine at one of those sports performance centers.
  4. In order to understand just how disgusting it is that the NFL team in Washington, D.C., is still called the "Redskins," you need to know the franchise's history. You need to understand that George Preston Marshall, the man who bought the rights to an NFL franchise with three partners and started the Boston Braves in 1932, was an avowed segregationist. You have to understand the franchise was renamed in "honor" of a man raised by white parents who adopted a Native American persona (scholars say he was impersonating a Sioux man). And when the team relocated to D.C. five years after it was founded, the city was controlled by Southern white politicians, and its most powerful resident, Franklin D. Roosevelt, invited only the white Olympians who competed in 1936 to visit him at the White House. "Hitler didn't snub me -- it was [FDR] who snubbed me," said Jesse Owens, who won four gold medals. "The president didn't even send me a telegram." So before anyone dismisses the outcry to rename the football team as another example of political correctness gone wild, they must remember the first NFL team to reintegrate was the L.A. Rams in 1946 and the last was Marshall's "Redskins" in 1962. But to fully appreciate just how revolting it is that the team still bears that name, you must know that Marshall didn't finally sign a black player because he was no longer a racist. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8944042/history-alone-prompt-washington-change-nfl-mascot
  5. South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will undoubtedly purchase an insurance policy to protect him against a catastrophic injury during a college football season that will do nothing to improve his draft stock for 2014. if it were my son.....i would tell him to sit out the year and prepare for the combine , thereby significantly reducing the risk of injury..... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/13/clowney-will-try-to-buy-insurance-against-a-serious-injury/
  6. Levitre is special.....i'm talking Top 5 Left Guard in the league......he is exceptional at everything......he is flat out our best O-lineman.......he is worth franchise tag money......he will easily get a 5yr/$42.5 million contract or more somewhere else.....there is absolutely no one on this roster who can replace him.....tagging him is money well spent. Byrd on the other hand is easily replaceable (aaron williams, mckelvin, brooks, searcy) by moving over a corner. Byrd can't cover a tight end, cant cover a wide receiver, gets his azz faked out by RB's all the time.....his 5 interceptions, to me, is nothing special. all he is very good at is basket hanging 20 yards deep looking for over thrown balls.
  7. maybe the NFL/NFLPA should offer/make mandatory the reverse of lottery winnings.... instead of taking the cash......they get it in the form of an Annuity that pays them annually over 50 years...... fat chance....it'll never happen....
  8. 100% he is staying......one way or the other......he either signs a long term deal or he will be Franchise Tag'd.... he's more valuable than Byrd. i don't want to lose either......but, it will be alot easier to replace Byrd than Levitre.
  9. racism, bigotry, discrimination, hate crimes, insults ARE NOT FUNNY...... some words are just plain offensive.....try calling a woman in your life a word that starts with a "c" and ends in unt......and see how far that gets you. certain words effect different people in different ways...... if your wife, mother, daughter, friend are offended by your use of that word.....chances are pretty good you'll stop using it. the fact that many , if not all of these words have little to no effect on you.....doesn't mean that everyone else should share your view. you have every right to not be offended....and they have every right to be offended. your lack of empathy is a form of BULLYING.......but you probably don't see that either.
  10. just because in your mind the "n" word is the most offensive word out there, doesn't mean all other words are not as offensive or insulting. The following is a list of ethnic slurs (ethnophaulisms) that are, or have been, used as insinuations or allegations about members of a given ethnicity or to refer to them in a derogatory (critical or disrespectful), pejorative (disapproving or contemptuous), or insulting manner in the English-speaking world. For the purposes of this list, an ethnic slur is a term designed insult others on the basis of race, ethnicity, or nationality. Each term is listed followed by its country or region of usage, a definition, and a reference to that term. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_slurs
  11. i think this arguement fails..... there seems to be alot of black comedians and musicians who regularly use the "n" word......and yet it is still considered racist and offensive by many. just because some members of a particular group are not offended by racist or stereotypical names, doesn't mean the ones who are offended, have no right to be....
  12. every minute.....i love playing armchair GM......no man love for Mayock, he has hits and misses like the rest of em. i also get a big chuckle when Rich Eisen runs the 40 and they Superimpose that over the athletes running their 40, giving rich a 10 yard head start and watching him get run down at the finish....
  13. "redskin" is a RACIAL descriptor.... the Washington Redskin name is every bit as RACIST & OFFENSIVE as using the "n" word.
  14. Levitre is NOT going anywhere..... they will franchise tag him if necessary.....and he's worth it !! he will then sign a 5yr / $42.5mil with $20 guaranteed.
  15. i think Tasker was ranked too high.......
  16. as per rules......at the referee's discretion......they could rule the play a "score".....thats right, the refereee could rule touchdown or any amount of extra yardage he saw fit.
  17. that player is O. J. Brigance and he suffers from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gerhigs disease. There is no known cause for ALS. as far as Troupe is concerned, he is a bust from day one and in my opinion, will stay a bust.

  19. The 2011 labor deal allows teams to carry over unused salary-cap space. Or to not carry it over. the Bills "can" carry over $9.8 million if they so choose ....which would be in addition to the unadjusted cap number, which is expected to be in the vicinity of $121 million per team. Team-by-team available cap adjustments for 2013: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/02/06/team-by-team-available-cap-adjustments-for-2013/
  20. YES !!...in a heartbeat....at this point, it would be good for the Bills to offer Flacco 5yr/$100mil/$50 guaranteed....even if it meant losing two First round draft choices.
  21. the Go Daddy "Bar Refaeli" kiss commercial, while finishing dead last for likeability......is actually one of the more "effective" ads. social media is a buzz over it......and you tube video hits are high..... btw: • The geek. The chubby geek who seriously swaps tongues with supermodel Bar Refaeli, is still pinching himself. "It's everything I couldn't imagine when I signed up to be an actor," says Jesse Heiman, the 34-year-old character actor who plays the "romantic" lead in the Go Daddy kiss-o-rama. "It's crazy the things I get paid to do as an actor." Consider: 18 seconds of the 30-second commercial are pure kiss. Heiman actually was not even supposed to get the role. After a series of auditions, someone else was selected. But Bob Parsons, the founder of Go Daddy, wasn't sold on the guy who was cast. So the auditions continued and Heiman, who is single and admits to never having had a serious girlfriend, was picked. "It seemed a little too good to be true," he says, still giddy from his new-found fame despite previous appearances, mostly playing a nerd, in nearly 200 TV shows, films and commercials. Sure, he says, he's kissed girls before — but never a supermodel, much less one who turned out to be a super kisser. "She kissed amazingly soft and sweet," he says, with some embarrassment. "I'm going to hold all kissers to that standard — and it's going to be hard to beat." But the commercial was hard work to film, he says. "It may sound dumb, but the day was exhausting," Heiman says. He says he lost exact count but that the kissing scene was reshot between 45 and 60 times. "We started kissing in the morning," he says, "and continued after lunch." The scene took nearly six hours to shoot. "The director advised me at lunch not to eat anything with garlic." He occasionally had to use mouthwash — and lip balm — between takes. But it was worth it, he says. Even worth all the embarrassing auditions that he had to go through. One audition, in front of the casting crew, involved kissing a plastic, blow-up doll that, he says, was a Lindsay Lohan knockoff. When he was called back for a second audition, he had to kiss an actual woman, Heiman says. "It's really weird to stand next to a stranger — and someone shouts, 'Action!' and you're suddenly kissing them."
