  1. I've been saying this for a couple weeks now. The Jets are worse off today then they were at the end of last season.

Bart Scott is an upgrade, but not as much as everyone makes him out to be, there is no doubt, with all that talent he had around him, will make any player look better.

Lito Sheppard couldn't even start for his own team, so he's not too much of an upgrade.

Jim Leonard is small and slow and undoubtedly looked a whole lot better than what he was in the Ravens system, and I can't wait for T.O and Lee Evans to rip him up in center field.

Jet's lost Brett Favre and have no one as of now that can step in and fill his shoes. This is where they will really hurt.

Laverneous Coles, arguably their best WR is gone and Baker a decent Receiving TE is gone.

I have little doubt in my mind that we not only gained ground, but surpassed them talent wise.

I am psyched about this season

  2. Because he's "past his prime"? Yeah, right. You have no idea what you're talking about. Two years ago Sheppard and Brown were considered the best young CB tandem in the game. No one knew who these two were coming in and trying to replace Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent - one of the best CB tandems in the game for years - but these two were more than adequate. Sheppard didn't fall out of favor because of lack of talent; he fell out of favor because he bitched about his contract and Philly doesn't put up with that bull sh--. He would have played somewhere else but Philly couldn't get their asking price and could afford his cap number for one more year. But thanks for "refuting" my point.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about. Richard Seymour is a 3-4 DE. 3-4 DE's don't generally rack up large amounts of sacks. That being said, he tied his career high last year with 8 sacks. Adalius Thomas is a monster, and still has every bit of speed and versatility. His stats are harder to measure because they move him from WLB to SLB to MLB at will, depending on injury or the scheme.

If you think Lito shepard is one of the best DB's in the league. You are in the minority.

After giving up three touchdowns against Arizona on Thanksgiving, Sheppard was dropped from No. 3 to No. 5 on the depth chart. He then played mostly on special teams the rest of the season.

He was traded for a fifth round draft choice, New Englands at that.

    Paleaaaase. One of the best?

  3. I gotta disagree here with you...TO is a big deep play threat...may not be his biggest strength, but he makes plenty of deep plays because of his excellent route running and stregnth he is able to create seperation.

I knew I was gonna disagree with you sooner or later. TO has been a dangerous deep play threat, but his strenghts has been more for the intermediate routes as of lately. He is fearless going across the middle and I suspect that is how Buffalo will use him this year.

I'm pretty sure you will see him running lots of 10-20 yard routes this year.

Man that would be sweet, seeing him run the slant

  4. It's on Turk's shoulders just as much.

This is a critical year for lots of people.

For T.O, this is about as important as it gets for him, because if the Bills fail and he has subpar numbers, no team will pay him a decent contract and his image will be tarnished.

For Jauron, If he finishes with another 7-9 record or worse, he most likely will be canned and he never will get a shot at being a HC again.

For Schonert, this is his opportunity to shine as a OC. Now he received a lot of flack last year, and I'm not too sure if it was justified, either way, If Jauron goes so does Schonert.

For Trent Edwards, Even though I believe there are teams that value him and believe that he is an NFL starter, if he doesn't have a good year, there is a chance that the next HC will want to at least consider replacing him as the starting qb for the Bills.

So this is a make or break year for many players and coaches.

  5. If Lito Sheppard sucks then he sucks. But he can't be past his prime at 27.

For the record, I don't think he sucks, and I think you're going to see that this year. He lost his starting job because he bitched and moaned about getting a new contract, Philly said no (as they always do), and brought in Asante. Then they couldn't off-load Sheppard, so they had him play the nickel. Joselio Hanson was playing so well he beat out Lito down the stretch (they also knew Lito wouldn't be back next year and were looking forward), and they rewarded Hanson with a nice contract to boot.

I didn't say he sucked, I was just refuting the point you made about Lito being a part of one of the best starting tandem db's in the league.

  6. It doesn't matter. NE's front 7 continue to get pressure making the job of the DB's easy. That's why it doesn't matter who we have in our secondary since we can never mount a pass rush. Not sure how they're getting "older" - I mean, everyone ages. Seymour is 29, Warren is 28, Wilfork is 27, Thomas is 31, Mayo is 23. They'll replace the 34 year old Vrabel with a guy in his 20's (barring the signing of Jason Taylor). Bruschi (35) maybe plays for one more year. The secondary - aside from Shawn Springs - is very young (Hobbs is 25, Meriweather is 24, Sanders is 25, Wilhite is 24). If anything they're getting younger.

Lito Sheppard is 27. How is he past his "prime," exactly?? The Jets defense - led by Rex Ryan - might be sick next year. Revis and Sheppard might be the best CB tandem in the league (outside of Philly), and Rhodes is very, very good. Leonhard has proven he's a serviceable starting SS too.

you do know that Lito Sheppard lost his starting job, and by the end of the year he wasn't even in the nickel back package dont you?

  7. hard to buy into your logic here. If the Bills had such great offseasons why are they on a treadmil of 7-9? Also, the Bills were lapped by the rest of the AFC East last year. I will try to keep it positive here because i think the Billas are trying to improve. As I have said in other posts thier improvement rests on three key foundational pieces:

Trent Edwards must improve (maybe T.O. helps with this because he can get open or help Lee get open)

The Bills offensive system and Schonert's play calling must improve

The defensive line has to generate a pass rush

If these three things do not happen the Bills will have a long and difficult season.

In the mean time let's hang in there and give the new edition the Bills a chance to show us what they have.

No one is saying that the Bills has had great offseasons. No doubt that there have been many decisions that havn't panned out. The point that is being made is that there is a committment in trying to improve the team. Clearly there has been, all these posts that Ralph is cheap are ridiculous and really is a reflection of how disappointed fans are towards Buffalos mediocre and lackluster play through out the years.

  8. Ignoring the passrush for 3 straight yrs doesnt translate into any congratulations(or wins)

If you remember 2 years ago, going into the 2007 season. We were optimistic of our DE's. 2006 We had 40 sacks, which was well above the league average. Schobel had a probowl year, Kelsay had a good year by his standards, We had what most of us believed to have a very solid 4 man DE rotation with Hargrove added to the mix.

Last year we were decimated with injuries with Schobel, Hargrove Suspended, and we had no pass rush.

So now, we definitely have to address it.

But let's not forget what happened

So to say 3 straight years is inaccurate. agreed?

  9. They have made lots of bad decisions through the years, decisions that didn't pan out, like the signing of Triplett, Dockery, Royal and etc. etc., but that doesn't mean that they didn't have a committment to winning.

I believe they do want to field the best possible team, and they have spent the money over the years in order to TRY to achieve this.

This signing definitely tells me that they are making a push. As a fan, that is what I'm looking for out of the team that I pull for. They havn't been too successful over the years in the decisions they have made, but never was it because of a lack of trying to field a good team.

I give them lots of credit from this signing.

It has brought back excitement, relevance and a huge upgrade at the WR spot.

  10. Me too, but I don't see why Lee has to "allow" anything. Yeah he's been the #1 here, but he's not as good as T.O., plain and simple. Its not embarrassing to not be as good as one of the greatest statistical receivers of all time, I don't know why he should have to "let" Owens have the main gig.

If Peyton Manning came to the Bills, should Trent have to "let" him be the number 1 guy?

With the attitude Owens brings, that he wants the ball and actually commands it, he will be getting the fair share of the opportunities. Lee doesn't have the personality to command anything.

your right and I agree and that is the approach that Lee should take in my view.

But you never know what sort of ego a player carries unless you really know him. Lee Evans seems like a good mild mannered person and I don't forsee any problems. But you never know what $9.5 Million a year can do to the dynamics of a person's ego, and to tell you the truth I was slightly surprised to hear him say that. If T.O heard that, you know T.O is thinking to himself, "Ya right! I'm now the #1 on the team" .

I say that because logic tells me through past experiences of knowing what sort of player T.O is, that that would be his thinking.

Having said that, I don't forsee any problems. I believe the Bills FO and players are desperate for a fresh of breath air, and they want to embrace the feeling of some sort of revelance through out the league. I see this as being a very good move.

  11. Its ok if this is a short term deal. We have 2 young WR's in Johnson and Hardy, so if we lose TO after a stellar season that puts both of our young guys in position to step up in their 3rd season.

    hey

    we agree again

  12. The pressure will be on TO to catch more than 1 in three balls that are thrown his way.

No doubt that TO will feel the pressure, after all he is the center of the universe and everyone is watching.

having said that, I believe he will do everything he can to step up to the plate.

I have an interesting stat I read earlier on T.O and how he performs when he has something to prove

*So in five “prove-it” seasons: 433 catches, 6,598 yards, 71 touchdowns. The averages during those seasons: 86.6 catches, 1,319.6 yards, 14.2 touchdowns.

In the other eight seasons: 518 catches, 7,524 yards, 68 touchdowns. The averages: 64.8 catches, 940.5 yards, 8.5 touchdowns.*
