  1. Yes, only the people who care about the way he performs on the field, are critical about him. Why in the hell would a Vikings, Bengals, Chiefs, etc etc etc. fans give a damn?

    That's not the point.

Sometimes you have to take a step back to be able to see things more clearly. Us as Bills fans are so negative about the state of the Bills, tend to see things with a glass is half empty out look.

Sort of like when you get two people that are constantly arguing with one another, they tend to only see things from their own perspective, and sometimes having a mediator is the only possible solution, because that mediator see's things from an even keeled perspective, and therefore can make a better assessment of what really is going on. So the correlation that I'm making is that the "rest of the NFL" is that mediator. The General consensus of the NFL on Whitner is that he is a good, hard hitting tackler.

Since lots of Bills fans see things in a skewed manner, because of our mediocre play, we tend to remember certain plays and characterize those players based on that certain play. For instance, we see it time in and time out, that people criticize Whitner, and the play they bring up is the play where he got blown up by Sam Morris. All though he did get obliterated by Sammy Morris on that play, it is unfair to characterize his ability based on that single play.

I don't have any problems with Whitner's ability as a tackler or hitter, which was the whole point of the comment he had on his facebook. My problem with Whitner is that he hasn't been that playmaker that we have been hoping for him to be as of yet. He doesn't get Int'.s, doesn't cause lots of fumbles and etc.

But to say that he is not a hard hitter really doesn't portray what he really is.

  2. isn't Matthews more of a 3-4 rushing OLB?

I don't know, but I like Matthews as much as any other LB in this years draft with the exception of Curry. He's a tackling machine, with great bloodlines, and to many people's dismay he was one of the fastest and most athletic LB's in this year's draft, even faster than Cushing with a 39' inch vertical.

If I had to go the LB route, I would look to try to trade into the latter half of the first round or early second to get him.

What says you astrobot about Matthews?

  3. Beckum is 6'3" 243, had the most bench press reps among TEs, and ran a 4.6 40 while only being 80% from his broken leg. It's not unrealistic to think that he runs in the low 4.5s when 100%. Not to mention he had 900+ yards the two years before he broke his leg.

Beckum is EXACTLY what we need, and could be had in the 3rd round.

He seems like a good option.

Whats most important about what you just mentioned is his production. That is what I like.

People love Jared Cook. But when you look what he's done in his career, it's pretty uninspiring.

But lots of unsuccesful scouts and GM's overvalue players speed and physical attributes and then they are stuck with good athletes who don't know how to play football that well. Just like Vernon Davis

  4. The Bills may be wanting to offer Keiaho or June one year contracts as well. What if the Bills have another disappointing season? What will that mean for Jauron?

Probably won't be here is my guess. If that is the case, there is a good chance that the new coach will want to change the tampa 2 into his own scheme that he believes in.

If that is the case you gotta believe that Bills FO is thinking the same thing, and they may be hesitant to offer a contract beyond a year or two.

  5. Interesting.

But I sure wish I knew how DJ holds his players "accountable":

"Yes, he’s a coach you want to play for and want to win for, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t hold you accountable — because he does."

What does that mean? The player does not get a gold star next to his name for the week? The player gets sent to bed without dessert?

you do live up to your name.

    I gotta give you that

  6. These two additions would be pretty dramatic in my opinion but I agree we need two more signings (O-Line and at LB).

But, you need to realize that the TO deal is a one year fling. This means, the only way it really makes sense is to push HARD to go the extra step this year. I feel this means borrowing from the future. There are two ways to do this:

1.) make a significant trade of future picks to get a needed piece this year (such as scheffler form Denver)

    or

2.) use the 1st round pick this year for NOW instead of the future. A now pick would be Pettigrew rather than at DE. DE is a major need and will pay off in the long run but who, then, plays TE this year???

    I agree completely!

This year is an important year for many people, and now seems like a logical year to make a stronger push than normal.

A trade for Scheffler would seem like a good move. If we didn't go this route, a pick in Pettigrew would make an immediate impact. I believe this player is as NFL ready as anyone in the draft. He is physical, big and would be an imposing blocker, who has the quickness , big target and hands to be a good safety valve immediately.

  7. Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post suggests that coach Dick Jauron was not in favor of the Bills' signing of Terrell Owens.

Lombardi notes that Jauron hasn't commented on T.O. and that CEO Russ Brandon is now the top personnel man in Buffalo. Owens makes Lee Evans and Trent Edwards better on paper, but this isn't a usual Jauron move. It does have the potential to improve Jauron's chances of keeping his job through 2010.
