  1. Fixed that for you. Now, not to denigrate your opinion, but I think that you and I have a much different definition of "very good"...

Year GP Rec Yds YPC YPG TD

    2008 16 58 561 9.7 35.1 2

    2007 16 46 421 9.2 26.3 1

    2006 14 29 370 12.8 26.4 2

    2005 16 37 273 7.4 17.1 2

There is nothing "very good" about those numbers. I would call him an "almost servicable" option at best. Statistically, he's no better than Billy Miller of the Saints or Desmond Clark of the Bears (both backups). I'd also prefer if my tight end finished in the top 50 in the league at his position in yards per catch.

So I stand by my statement, outside of Daniels, the FA TEs aren't worth pursuing.

I had Bo Scaife as my Fantasy league TE this year because Winslow seemed to be injured through out the year. I watched and payed more attention to Scaife this year as a result of it. The Man had a very good year, he was one of Tennessee's more important weapons this year. He had lots of third down receptions and if you look at the stats close to 60 receptions at about 10 yards a clip. I don't know about you, but I'd be extatic with a TE with that sort of production, not to mention he is an excellent blocker and was part of the reason why Tennessee had a very tough ground game.

And I'm glad you brought those stats out, did you happen to catch and notice how he has improved every year in yards receiving? The guy has improved by about 30-%40 PER YEAR at an average since his rookie year in 2005.

Sorry, but the stats don't lie. And to call him "almost servicable" or "garbage" is a bunch of garbage. He would be a huge upgrade and I'd be very happy to pick up a player that is young and improving.

  2. If you look at it mathematically Dockery is a better value than Trent. Take away your bias against Dockery and in favor of Peters and the Glove wearing Mary and look at this objectively.

If you take salary as an indicator then Dockery would have a high expectation level. On an addition/subtraction basis he would probably be the most disappointing. He cost 7 Mil but only produced at a 2 mil level. That means we overspent by 5 Mil. Trent couldn't even match it as he is only overpaid by 500k. I can see that argument but I think it is too simplistic as he is still producing at a 2 mil level.

I think it is most fair to take salary as a numerator and production as a denominator. This means Dockery would be a 3.5 as 7m/2m is 3.5. The higher the number the less value a player holds. 3.5 is a bad number. I think any fair assessment of Trent would have his value at 0. This makes his number infinity; even with a low salary. The last time I checked, infinity is more than 3.5. I think I have been too fair to Trent as he actually produced more for our opponents than he did for us. For instance he had a zero for the Cleveland Browns as he has produced richly for them two consecutive years and has not cost them a dime. In reality his denominator for Buffalo is negative which sends the calculation into a whirl. It is basically a sign he should be dumped which rings true to the naked eye. Clean up the city boy had similar numbers and he is already gone. Hardy, Omon, Ellis, Royal, and a few others fit this category as well. You can make a case that Hardy, Omon and Ellis were rookies and should be given another chance. You can also say that Trent will be entering his rookie year in 09 based on the draft value chart. Buffalo will probably look at it this way and keep these guys. In reality he should be held accountable as he enters his fifth season in August.

The best value on the team is probably Fred Jackson based on last year's $$ and production.

Did Trent Edwards bang your wife or somethin?

  3. Explain to me how Owen Daniels will cost a 2nd round pick? Houston will definitely tender him at the highest level for a RFA, which is about $2.7M per year. Therefore, it would cost any team that wanted to sign him a first and third round pick.

You are correct that he’s the only FA TE worth paying, but there’s absolutely no way Houston is letting him go. The TE is going to have to be a draft pick, the UFA’s that are out there are garbage.

    not true

Bo Scaife is a very good option

  4. You're missing the point of what I'm saying. If he DOES pan out at safety, and he ends up being the answer to a serious need for us... he would be worth whatever he costs. And I don't think it would be huge money. You don't let go of your best players, especially the one's that are team first, no complaints type of guys. Jason Peters is the exception. Loads of talent, but he's the opposite of McGee in character.

Mcgee will want to test the Free agent Market as a corner not a free safety.

    why?

    $$$$

  5. I can understand taking a stand against Marv the GM but now he was what held the team back as a coach. The Bills were put in a position to win the only superbowl they should have one. The truth is that the skins and cowboys rank up there with some of the greatest teams of all time. Take a break from the crusade your embarassing yourself.

I love Marv Levy to death and I'm extremely greatful that he was our HC for the time that he was here, but I will say this, My father and I always go back and say that we should have thrown one more pass before the Norwood debacle and tried to get a little closer for that FG attempt. Other than that,

  6. It's a legit question. In Baltimore, he has LBs like Ray Lewis (legendary in his pursuit of ballcarriers and has a knack for making big plays), Bart Scott (fierce hitter and pass rusher), and Terrell Suggs (as good as they come @ defending the pass in the flat and also one heck of a pass rusher) playing alongside him. Not to say that he isn't talented and wouldn't be an upgrade, but w/ the (lack of) talent 'round him were he to have been selected by the Bills, I don't know how much of a factor he'd be.

but if you remember, the Ravens defense struggled mightily (by their standards) before Ngata was drafted. Ngata in effect was the non sexy pick that made Ray Lewis, Suggs and Bart Scott look better. There is no doubt in my mind that Ngata would fit in any scheme and would improve any defense that he would be a part of.

  7. Thread should have ended with this post

    Greer/McGee/McKelvin make a better combination than Greer/McKelvin/???

ok if we're going along that thinking than

    Greer/Mcgee/Mckelvin/Clements/Winfield better combination than Greer/Mcgee/Mckelvin ???

Football economics play a factor you know...

  8. I think it's obvious the other way: keep McGee.

They are about the same age, and will command about the same amount of money. McGee is better; and can return kicks too.

    No they won't

Mcgee will command much more money than Greer on the open market. He has a bigger name, is viewed in the league as our #1 corner and has considerable value as a return man. Don't get me wrong, I like Mcgee a lot and I wish we could keep them both, and I would be happy if we resigned him, but it makes a lot of football business sense to me to resign Greer at a considerably less valued contract, get similar cb coverage value as mcgee and with the emergence of Mckelvin's Return skills, plus the added depth that we apparently have at DB i makes Mcgee more expendible. Plus he does have one year left on his contract, and to me it makes sense to try to get something in return for him before he walks.

He could be worth a second rounder.

Either way we gotta keep one of them.

  9. im seeing a lot of trade Peters posters and im getting kind of annoyed... First of all you dont trade your best o-linemen even if he is self centered. But second of all, this would make the bills franchise look really bad... If this happened this would be exactly like the drury briere situation... it says that when you start off avereage and player and work your way up to a probowler than basically we cant pay you... so then really who would want to play for the bills because when I get there and play hard and make the pro bowl they cant pay me.....cheap cheap ralph

On this one I totally agree with you...

  10. I don't like the argument of a "reach". The word "reach" is something that Kiper, Mayock and the rest of the "draft guru's" use to justify who is deserving of the draft pick. At the end of the day, if a player turns out to be a good football player at any position, then it rightfully justifies the draft pick that was made. It all depends on whether the football player turns out to be good, average or a bust.

If the TE turns out to be an effective safety valve who catches 50+ receptions a year, good 3rd down option, an excellent Endzone target and a devastating blocker that adds to our running game, then drafting that player in the first round as the 11th pick makes a lot of sense to me.

Ideally I would rather address our 11th pick with an effective pass rusher or a behometh of a run clogger, but I wouldn't draft one of those positions just because of the need to draft a player of that position.
