I used to care about Buffalo only having "character" guys. After thirty years of failure, the last 10 of which being horrifying I'm throwing the character issue under the bus.
Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson, TO et al.... I don't give a sh-- anymore. Field a bunch of convicted felons if you want just win a !@#$ing championship!
yes because fielding Pacman Jones and TO does produce winning championship teams. Oops, they both played for Dallas last year. They lived up to expectations

we should trade lynch for LT, there, i hit two birds with one stone.
Nice!

Hi Tim,
As you know, there is a rumour swirling around about T.O
I read your blog breaking down and analyzing which teams would be a fit if there is such a thing for T.O in the AFC east.
I'd like to know if you have heard anything and what your thoughts are regarding this circus show.
-
Okay, here mis my question. There are 500 threads about wanting TO or not wanting TO, but my question is what reaction would you all have if we did sign TO. I don't expect us too and I truly think there is a less than 1% chance it could even possibly happen, but what would you reaction be regardless.
I personally do not want him, but if we did sign him, it would actually get me excited and I would accept the signing.
I don't want him either, but if he were signed, I wouldn't be upset, and I'd hope for the best.

Did I say that I'm happy with 7-9?
You guyz make it seem as if that we can't do any worse than what we are doing.
Typical
you guyz have negativItess
where everything you see that surrounds you sucks bad.
There are better ways to build your football team.
There is a reason why the Cowboys, who arguably had the best talent in the NFL last year, didn't make the playoffs.
It is'nt a fluke or a coincidence that his complaining of Romo and Witten coincided with the disruption of a talented football team.
The Cowboys were a team of promise that became a team that people laughed at.
There is a reason why Jeff Garcia, proven winner can't stand T.O
There is a reason why Donovan McNabb and T.O couldn't co exist.
There is a reason why The Big Tuna, proven winner, escaped from that situation and doesn't want to touch him with a 10 foot stick.
There is a reason, why teams in the NFL are publicly making statements that they don't have an interest in him.
There is a reason why no one wants him
There is a reason why there is an Anti T.O list
You guyz are desperate.
I want a winning team just as bad as you do.
But there are better ways to build a football team.
Take a step back and breath
Good football organizations don't become good teams through desperate actions.
Take that to the bank

contrary to popular belief

PFT is now reporting the Bills are chasing Owens.
We seriously cant be doing this...
Desperate situations
sometimes call for desperate actions
-
I'm surprised someone hasn't said that we should sign him
-
This guy is so horrible and disruptive yet he manages to score TD's more than any other WR in the league over the last few years and continues to make big plays all over the football field.
Dallas knew what they where getting into when they brought TO into the organization, they wanted points and big plays and TO delivered, period, end of story.
Dallas with the most talent in the league
With T.O on the team
expected to contend for the superbowl
complained and made a scene about Jason Witten and Romo when he wasn't getting the football
Failed to make the playoffs
Dallas Cowboys considered the Biggest Bust and one of the laughing stocks of the league
Period
end of story!

Hi first post! To answer I'm optimistic because It will be a new year and new beginning. First I'll start with the offense, with the 2nd year under our OC and with Trent getting more experience under his wing there should be an improvement to our O without any change. Trent's play will dictate our season and he better be improved.
We got our Center Hangartner, I live in NC and like him he's young with some experience. Next with our line being upgraded Marshawn and Freddy should both take a step forward this year, and with the upcoming suspension there will be some healthy competition for the starting spot as Freddy will have his time to shine.
Now I believe we'll get a TE in the draft, and Fine will improve from last year (anyway improvement form Royal). At worst case we have Johnson/Hardy and both should improve from last year. Maybe Parrish will find his groove and we get some production from him and with a new TE the passing game should be better. I believe we'll be grabbing a OG before FA is done which completes our line making them better than last year. The only hole I see is the #2 receiver on offense, and who knows this can still get done through FA we still got cash.
Now on Defense, I believe our top 2/3 picks go here. We will get a DE/LB in round #1 and our DB's are good enough to hold the fort if we get pressure. Our LB's will be better with Ellison upgraded, add in a healthy Schobel and a DE who can actually rush the passer improves this defense. I think this is possible to get this done, and our D was decent last year.
I also like not overspending for Coles, and wisely using our money for value. We'll probably pay Freddy/Peters and pick up a OG/OLB instead. There's always hope look at the fins last year! I think were moving forward.
Great first post!!

I think plenty of the optimists come from one of two categories:
1. Younger fans who've only started watching in the past few years and haven't witnessed the ways of RW. Or
2. Fans who would be classified as casual fans, and don't understand when the hard-core fans complain. They're on a different wavelength and if the team loses, no big deal.
There aren't many places where the fans are more loyal, yet have less results-wise. I don't care for the mentality of "we have a team, better support it because they could move." Most of the teams who haven't done well in recent years have made changes, i.e. Miami, Atlanta, Kansas City, even Cleveland. But Buffalo keeps chugging along with the same cast of characters.
If more Bills fans looked around the league at what's happening, they'd realize the Bills are in a small minority of losers. I would hope fans demand more, but I'm not a casual fan who doesn't care about W's and L's.
Bullsh*t!!
Just because your bitter about the Bills play mediocre football doesn't make you as G.W. Bush would say "the decider" of who is a casual or hardcore fan.
The bottom line is this is not a football issue, it is an issue of positive and negative people. Some people are inherently negative and have never seen the light and other people become bitter with time and acquire negativity through experiences of life and etc.
I promise you, if you see the world with more positive eyes, the world actually does look a little bit better than what you think it does.
I am an eternal optimist in just about every aspect of my life, and I'm as big of a die hard fan as you will find.

The big names have pretty much all been signed and the bargains are just about gone. By the time someone gives Ralph a pen to write a check with all that will be left is players no one else wants. Way to go FO, looking like the first overall pick in the 2010 draft right now.
your negativity is leading you to desperation. I understand why, but the fact of the matter is that this offseason has been very weak for acquiring FA's. This is a different year then most, the economy is a major factor that many people on this board are not considering. The best aquisitions will be the 2nd and 3rd tier FA's, and those teams that practice patience will get the best bargains. The FO this offseason to me seems as if they are taking the right approach, they are hosting many players and taking their time in evaluating the players that they believe is a fit for this team, unlike the approach of the last few off seasons, where we overpayed for players and made quick rash decisions for the sake of making a splash in FA.
I will bet you 5 to 1 odds that we don't get the first overall pick, care to wager?

After checking with league sources, the Pewter Report states that the Buccaneers have no interest in free agent Terrell Owens.
The Bucs didn't give Michael Clayton $10.5 million in guaranteed money to ride the pine. The "anti-T.O. List" has now covered half the teams in the league and is still counting.

I read his blog.
Tragic. That is the best way I can sum it up. But you know, if he is sincere, and it seems like he has had a lot of time to himself to put things into perspective, he will most likely come out of this a better man.
He seems intelligent, and now after reading his blog, I believe he was a cocky, intelligent, talented punk coming out of school, who thought he could do it all. Probably had no regard or respect, for his school, his employers and the legal authorities, and he learned the hard way.
I wish him well, as he seems to be very sincere.

The Tampa 2 is proven to be a defense that works, if you have the right pieces in place.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Colts and Bears have all had tremendous success and either made it to or won the super bowl. All in the last decade!
The key is getting pressure to the qb, and that is our problem.

I thought this might explain the lack of players signed around the NFL and Buffalo.

very interesting stuff
Teams who are patient, may end up getting very good bargains.

Another one on the ANTI TO List
Despite rumors that Terrell Owens was in Nashville Friday morning, beat writer Jim Wyatt insists the free agent wide receiver is not visiting the Titans.
Wyatt said yesterday that the Titans had no interest in T.O., and he maintains that's still the case. If Owens was indeed in Nashville early Friday, Wyatt speculates that it must have been simply a connecting flight. With the Raiders and Redskins also vehemently denying interest, T.O.'s dance card looks empty.

I totally agree. That being said you HAVE to pay attention to lineage. Again, Larry Johnson, when he not melting down, is a great back. Then there is Ki Carter, Curtis Enis, Blair Thomas and Tony Hunt. Ike Hilliard has been decent. But how about Chris Doering, Reidel Anthony, Dallas Baker, Jack Jackson, Travis Taylor or Taylor Jacobs? So does it really mean anything when PSU RB goes for 1500? Or a Florida WR is an all american? No, it usually means their system is working.
So while you would be a fool to dismiss E Brown before watching tape, I say be very careful. Because Jamal Reynolds, Wadsworth, WIlson all had a bunch of sacks in that same system too.
agreed
-
Well, you are wrong. Kids get into colleges and learn how to play within the systems that they are in. They develop terrible habits that they never break. That is why Ohio St. pumps out talent to the NFL every year. Unlike a team like West Virgina, who's LBs play in a 3-3 system where their keys are completly different. Ever hear of a Mountaineer LB in the NFL? But WVU is always in the top 15 right? SO, when you're groomed to play a certain position in a "niche" type D for 4-5 years you are going to be lost. Thats my point.
That's not the argument though Shanahan.
What you implied was that since Everett Plays for Florida State, you should cross him off and not consider drafting him at the #11 spot. That is what you implied.
That logic is a flawed logic.
As I stated in one of my posts, if you go back and read, it is definitely something to consider, the system that they play in, but it shouldn't be the exclusive reason of why you should or shouldn't draft a player.
agreed?
-
Beat writer David White cites a Raiders team source who insists "there is no way T.O. is coming here."
The Raiders have a new free agent policy: building with youth, re-signing their own, and looking for cheap patches on the market. "It's like a complete 180 from last year," the source said. The team is desperate for an influx of talent at wide receiver, but they're obviously determined to go with youth.
looks like Raiders are on the Anti T.O list
WOW!! That tells you how much people really don't want T.O
rightfully so.

I can verify. He bought a fish burrito.
sounds fishy to me

I'd have to agree with Alpha, this is a weak year to obtain top tier FA's. There really hasn't been to many good options. I would think that the best general approach for this year's FA crop is to hopefully find quality 2nd and 3rd tier FA's.
We are where we are. I know people are desperate for us to have some sort of excitement. Understandably so. But like I said, We are where we are, and the Bills as an organization has to try to take the best approach possible at building this organization. This year's FA crop isn't the most impressive. Hopefully we can fill a couple holes with some quality players, and find a few gems in the draft, and who knows, maybe we can have a good year.
-
I agree but he makes a good point. We have just gotten burned by our second Texas o-lineman.
I understand, but that doesn't mean you exclusively base your decision on which college football program thatl they came from. If you do this, that would mean that any high school or junior transfer recruit that goes to Texas or Florida State to play football, has decided and changed their fate, and is destined to be a bad NFL pro football player. I don't buy into that bullsh*t. No disrespect, it just doesn't fly with my logic.
That is not to say that you don't take into consideration the offensive or defensive philosophies that the school may implement. For instance, If I see a college football team that is known to pass a lot, like Texas Tech for instance and a football player like Harell or Crabtree has amazing stats, then I would as a NFL scout, take that into consideration, and see if there is more to it then the stats.
I just think it is silly to dismiss a player, just because of the football program that they come from.
How do so many people remain optimistic?
