I'm sure most players go to management and request pay cuts all the time.
Ok
you clearly didn't read my entire post. Why don't you read the very last line of my original post, then get back to me
-
yes, i cant imagine why anyone wouldnt want to give up a few million dollars so people on message boards would be "happier"
Thats not the point.
He wouldn't do it just to make other people happier.
It should be done for the same reason why Alex Smith or LT are renegotiationg their contracts (just to name a few recent ones). Because they are not WORTH the contracts that they have signed. That is why!!
Are you saying that you believe that Kelsay is worth $5million a year?
-
Never listen to GM's before the draft. They intentionally confuse.
I already did (hence the reference to http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2009_2.php). Get a clue, dude.
oh, I had no idea that you and Polian shared draft deception techniques.
-
I'm not saying anything new, but it is time to restructure his contract. We most likely won't cut him, because we are thin on talent at the DE position, plus the Bills FO and Coach like him.
He is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be, everyone is disgusted with his play, primarily because of how much $$ he is making. If he were to be strictly a rotational DE and had a modest contract of a couple million a year, he wouldn't receive no where near as much flack as he does.
He should redo his contract, making the Bills fan base happier, allow more $ to sign other players, plus he would be seen as more of a team player by doing so.
He has to know that we are not happy, and you can hear that in his interviewed, even he himself said that he was surprised that we addressed the WR position with T.O, because he felt that there were more pressing needs. No doubt in my mind he was talking about his position.
I think he would be open to it. Hopefully the Bills bring it to his attention.
-
That would be smart, and I'm willing to bet that T.O would be up to it as well. There is a lot of motivation to succeed from all parties
-
They're a smart organization.
yup.
Miami right now must be quaking their boots. They need to address their DB's badly, specially after losing their starting DB. My guess is that they will go DB with their first pick.
I'm starting to like our matchups with them through the air. Now we just got to get Peters in Camp so he can block Porter. MoFo killed us last year

I know Hocknod said that no one likes Maybin or something along those lines. Bill Polian likes him a lot and says that he can definitely play DE in the 4-3 alignment. I would say that Polian knows a little bit about talent evaluation, specially DE's.
Having said that, I don't like Maybin and I would definitely pass on him as a first round pick, but I would pick him up as a second round choice. The reason why I wouldn't at the #11 spot is the risk/reward ratio doesn't seem like a fit, however at #43 he seems a lot more attractive.
But he won't make it there anyway.

Travis Beckum:
6'3" 243
4.6 40
most bench reps at the combine
900+ yards in his soph and junior years.
I like the prospects of Beckum.
great production and measurables. Definitely someone to consider if we don't go Pettigrew at the #11 spot. Injuries worry me a little bit.
-
True. Although, Pettigrew did miss 4+ games due to injury last season, so if you pro-rate his statistics you'd be looking at 60+ catches and 700+ yards, to go along with 540 yards and 4 touchdowns as a junior. The zero touchdowns as a senior is a bit troubling though....
yes, good point, if he hadnt of been injured, then he has fantastic stats his last two years. All though as you mentioned the 0 T.D's his last year is a little strange. But he has a phenomenal vertical leap, good quickness and he has a huge frame, you got to believe that he will be a very good T.D target in the pro's.
Also, I liked the comment you made about him being a "Football Player" and not a "Work out Warrior". Sometimes lots of scouts and GM's become enthralled at a person's measurables: speed, strength etc. and they lose perspective in what is more important, and that is whether or not he can play football or not. Suggs and Davis are two perfect examples of that. Suggs was suppose to be the top player drafted or top three anyway, until he ran a slow forty and he dropped out of the top ten and the Ravens got one hell of a football player. Where Davis skyrocketed up the charts with his Amazing numbers and jumped into the top #10 and now is a below average TE.
-
Like your thinking. Although, I think there's a good chance that Pettigrew can fall into the #15-25 range, so a trade up would be ideal in this scenario in order to put ourselves in better position to draft an English, Ayers, Maybin, etc with our 2nd pick. This being in a perfect world, of course.
Actually this would be ideal in a perfect world. Pettigrew most likely would be available in that range. If we were to be able to trade down, we could acquire an additional pick.
However I don't believe Ayers or English will be available in the second round. With that additional pick, we could look to trade back into the 1st round and get one of those players.

Free agent LB Derrick Brooks says he doesn't plan to retire and is open to playing another season in Tampa Bay.
"I’ve still got the Jones to play," he said. "I committed myself to playing one more year." The Bucs seem doubtful to bring Brooks back at a reduced price. Cutting the former franchise stalwart twice in one offseason would look bad.
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Home_NFL.aspx?rwr=1
Since it seems as if we are offering 1 year contracts like T.O and Mike Peterson, it would seem logical to me to offer a 1 year contract in Derrick Brooks. He is aging but should be an upgrade over Ellison. He still has the desire to play. Not to mention if we fail this year, Jauron will be gone and so will most likely the Tampa 2 defense, then Brooks would be gone.
Seems like a logical fit to me.
-
This guy is on drugs. I wouldn't be happy anyway. Why would we be excited about getting Maybin in the second round anyhow? Chris Kelsay was a projected 1st rounder we got in the second. Are you excited about another season of him?? A bust is a bust is a bust. Maybin is not a 4-3 DE. If the FO thinks he can play OLB fine, but you wouldn't draft two OLB's in the first two rounds. Furthermore, this guy's rationale for drafting OLB at #11 is Ellison/Crowell. That won't be an issue if/when we sign June/Keiaho. Not that we shouldn't look at the position but DE is of #1 importance. Trade up to get Orakpo or E. Brown. Or trade down to 20 or so and pick up Michael Johnson and stockpile picks.
I believe Johnson has got bust written all over him more so than Maybin
-
Hell no, we just signed TO remember
Yeah I think Pettigrew is going to be a really good TE but we need to go Defense in Rd 1 IMO. This year has a lot of good TEs to choose from...get one in round 3 or 4.
there is no doubt that in my view this is the deepest pool of promising prospects for TE's in this year's draft. That for me is the biggest reason why I would consider not picking Pettigrew with the #11 pick.
having said that, I wouldn't want to pick any other Defensive lineman with the #11 pick, other than Brown, Orapko, Raji and maybe Larry English. I would hate to reach for the sake of a need, and end up getting a bust or project player when we could pick up a stud in Pettigrew.
-
This is huge. Text Russ Brandon immediately.
BEAST MODE BABY: "Nelson".
Brandon: "?".
BEAST MODE BABY: "Go Get Shawn Nelson."
Done.
-
I would'nt be upset with Larry English at all. I'd rather have English than Cushing.

I haven't seen a single mock draft with the Lions taking a defensive player. I've seen taking only a QB or OT. If anything I think this hurts our chances. If Stafford drops, then someone takes him over Sanchez, then Sanchez drops and teams trade up to get him, letting a defensive lineman slip.
i may have not understood what you are saying.
Are you saying that if Stafford get's picked, this hurts our chances at getting Brown, Orapko or Raji with the #11?
If that is what your saying, I don't see your logic. That would mean that Stafford is gone, and now there is only one other qb that could be considered before the #11 pick in Sanchez, as opposed to Stafford not getting picked and having two available.
-
With the exception of Gonzalez what other TE are "complete" by that I mean how many are great blockers and receivers? usually they are either a good blocker and a decent receiver or a good receiver and a decent blocker. Maybe this is just my thought
Heath Miller in my view is a complete TE. I see Pettigrew being a better Heath Miller, and I'd be very happy to have a player like Miller.
-
If he is the #1 Selection of the draft, there is a good chance that someone will want to scoop up Sanchez with their first round draft choice before we pick. If that is the case, then it does improve our chances at acquiring Everett Brown, Orapko or Raji with our #1.

"All signs point to (a) quarterback" being the Lions' pick at No. 1 overall, according to Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post.
The Lions' beat writers have also warmed to the idea after initially predicting GM Martin Mayhew would focus on defense. Mayhew doesn't appear to be disguising his plans by doing nothing to upgrade at QB so far this offseason.

I just believe that Pettigrew is a safer choice. More NFL ready than anyone in the draft in my view.
He will be able to play in running and throwing downs immediately, where as Nelson I would imagine would be involved in far few plays because of his liability as a blocker, at least initially.
Pettigrew undoubtedly will be an asset immediately on running situations, and presents a good, large, soft handed checkdown option that should be able to be implemented at the onset in passing situations.
What I have seen, he is quick and does have nimble feet for his size, and is not heavy footed.
Nelson you gotta believe will be more of a threat down field, has much better top end speed, who does have good hands. He is a very attractive option as a TE, if we are looking to open up the field down the middle.
Pettigrew as well is a very big target who could also fill that role as well, but just not with the top end speed that Nelson has.
Pettigrew I believe has more value, because he will be able to be a full time TE, where as Nelson, I don't see as being that option.

I'm at work
what are some of the quotes, or a possible transcript, or maybe visualized hand language, somethin?

Please for the love of god let Everette Brown be there at 11 and squash all this @hit.
He's my first choice at the DE

There are such a significant number of stupid posts on TSW that often sarcasm is lost on us simpletons. if you are going to be sarcastic you have to raise your hand and wave it or risk being taken seriously on TSW.
i have to agree, i didn't quite get the sarcasm. But now that i know

I just hope he shows some heart this year. Having the sack to ask for T.O. to be on the team is a good start.
Last year, I never saw a QB show less heart after getting a concussion than Edwards, which really disappointed me because to that point, I was firmly in his camp as a franchise QB for the Bills.
At this point, based on his reaction to getting a concussion last year and then going all timid on the team and on the field , I view him as a stop gap only to the next QB we draft.
I hope he proves me wrong.
ya your right,
he did show no heart in the KC game when he dove in for TD, head first at the end of the half.

He should look in the mirror and say that...
oh god
Time to restructure Kelsays contract

Well you may be right.
He may not accept it, and it is his prerogative to do so or not. And your right, it wouldn't make a big difference as far as the cap is concerned. But I think you and I both know that the cap number isn't the most important number to R.W, it is the bottom line $.
It doesn't hurt to try to get him to take a pay cut. As a matter of fact, I would make it public, let everyone know that we are wanting him to take a cut in pay, hold him accountable for his play/contract. It would add more pressure for him to do so.
Dont you think?
