  1. If you look at the track record of the Bills draft with Modrak, it makes no sense for Bills fans to invest a whole lot of time discussing the draft.

Being that the Bills do a shoddy job of evaluating NFL free agents who have already spent years in the league, it's almost expected that they're not going to excel at projecting what college players will do in the NFL.

If they cannot gauge the ability of an NFL player how are they going to gauge they ability of a college player in the NFL?

And their track record shows exactly that, it sucks.

Worse yet they now have a guy in the gm role who has no business being there.

If this team happens upon a good 1st round pick this year it will be by pure accident because it's obvious by now that they don't have clue one.

Your mother didn't breast feed you did she?

  2. there is some space between being a terrible tackler and a great tackler. He's clearly pretty fast, or at least fast enough - at least he was until his ACL injury.

seriously this board has gotten so negative that virtually any news at all is by default, bad.

Your absolutely correct. People are too negative!

Good signing! A player with good speed, knows the system and made lots of tackles while he had the opportunity.

  3. After Miami moving Satelle, I figured they might be going with Mack in the 1st round. I also know that Philly needs line help and might be looking at him. I didn't ever think we would go with Mack @ #11, but I was thinking he might fall to us in the 2nd round possibly. Maybe this helps our cause.

I wouldn't be surprised if Miami goes after Jason Brown...

Seems to me by moving Satelle, they are targeting someone in FA. It's risky to not target a replacement in FA and hope to get the player you want in the draft. You may end up with some one worse than Satelle.

  4. The major difference is Leon Seals from a talent perspective was no where near the level of Bruce. Jackson brings a different skill set to the table. Jackson hits the holes faster and is a considerably better receiver out of the backfield. Lynch is more of a dancer and runs with more brute force. Strictly statistically speaking, Jackson puts up better numbers than Lynch. If you disregard their pedigree and age, arguably Jackson is a better back for the system. If given the opportunity, he will produce. Then you have a controversy.

    No

    there won't be a controversy.

It will just further affirm that we have a good 1-2 combo. More teams in the NFL are adopting this approach to help lengthen their players career and to have a different change of pace back. It's not like a qb, where you have to stick with one.

    no controversy.

Does this hurt his stock at all? Does it even matter? Seems like a pretty tough break to "sprain" your ankle 3 days before the NFL Combine. It could work to our benefit though, if another guy happens to shine and grab Philly or Miami's eye. They seem like our main competition if we are to try to get the best Center in the draft.

My guess is some team will overlook the injury, but there is little question that by not being able to workout at the combine, that doubt will enter some GM's minds.

  6. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/02/18/...-chicago-bears/

He would almost certainly supplant Orton as the starter in Chicago who didn't really do more than manage the team, at best. Now they just have to get some WR's to throw the ball to.

Not to be argumentative, but I don't see Simms being an upgrade to Orton. Simms really has never showed me anything. I think more than anything, it would provide more of a competition for the qb position. Either way, I don't like none of the two.

  7. What a bunch of extremists.

Either way off to the left or way off to the right...

Within the extreme original statement there is a good question though. What happens if Jackson Runs well and we have success if Lynch has to sit out the first four games? Well there is no doubt that it will boost Jackson's stock and value to our team and it will have a residual effect as far as how much extra playing time he gets. But let's make no bones about it, Lynch is our starter, He plays with passion and everyone on the Bills Team has his back, and thank god they don't place too much stock in some of these extremely judgemental people's opinon's that we call fans (more like haters).

Lynch Would start when he came back and would share the load with Jackson. That's what would happen.

  8. in all honesty, i can't hate on donte's prediction. i like to see a player with some cockiness and confidence that good things are going to happen. if they had 52 other guys with that same attitude things might be different

    Absolutely!!

We need more guys like him on our team. He's a winner and he brings an attitude of winning. We just need more guys that share his same attitude.

As far as what he has to be cocky about? Lots of things. Ohio State Buckeyes captain. Bills Leader. Top Ten Draft choice. Lots more money than most people will ever have. Good and winning attitude. Phenomenal athlete. etc. etc. etc.

  9. 1. Any idea that Boldin doesnt command a package of a 1st round pick and at least a 3rd is just a pipe dream. Roy Williams went for more than that and Wash offered Cincy TWO 1st round picks for Ocho until Cincy (in one of the dumbest moves in their recent history) said no...Boldin is younger and a BETTER than both those guys.

    2. This "Ralph wont pay for him talk" is silly...don't believe me, then just search the countless threads complaining about the contracts of Schobel, Walker, Dockery, Evans, Kelsay, Denney, etc...Ralph has paid out a lot in the last couple of years, so enough of the he wont pay stuff. Feel free to complain about how he spent the money, but he clearly is spending money.

    3. The talk about how Boldin won't come here is silly too because he is not a Free Agent. It would be via trade, so its not really up to him.

    4. Comparing Boldins contract situation to Peters is just silly. Peters went about his contract the wrong way. Boldin honored his, even played just 2 weeks after a nearly career ending hit with screws in his face. Boldin is upset (and rightfully so) that AZ didnt keep their promise to rework his deal, even after he said he wouldnt hold out. No one on this board would be happy about broken promises by their employer either, but Boldin went out and played his tail off anyway and constantly put his body on the line, even after injury.

I would actually put us at #2 on that list. Philly I am willing to bet lands Housh which will take them out of the Boldin market. Miami I dont see being a likely landing spot. I think us and the Giants make the most sense, and honestly, unless NY gives up a bounty in picks, I think we can make the best offer. Plus, for AZ, trading him here gets him out of the NFC where he would be a strong candidate to face in the playoffs.

If we can resign either Greer or Jackson (or both), then that opens up the door for more possibilities. A package of a 1st round pick and a newly signed Jackson (since AZ NEEDS a RB) would be awfully tempting for AZ. Or, maybe a package of a 1st round pick and either Greer or McGee (since AZ needs DB help) could also be quite attractive too. Regardless, a first round pick is going to likely have to be included...

The problem with trading for Boldin is the amount of $$ that we commit to our wide recievers. Lee Evans is getting $9 Million a year and Boldin you got to figure would be another $10Million a year easy. I can't think of any teams that agree with committing to top dollar and #1 WR pay for two people on their pay. This is a philosophy that no team is committed to, because of the ramifications of what it could do to their team. It waters down the rest of the quality of a team.

Think about it for a second. $20Million a year for 2 people at the same position. That leaves $100 Million for the other 50.

So if we did that, then what your saying is that you expect to have quality players at the other 50, playing for an average salary of $2million a year.

    hmmm

    Doesn't make sense to me.

Not to mention the draft picks that we have to trade away.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Boldin, but not at the expense of committing $20 Million to two players of the same position and two top picks.

  10. If Kellen Winslow was unhappy in Cleveland what makes anyone think he would be happy here? Doesnt he strike you as the kind of guy who want to be in a big market so that he can get all of the attention he didnt get from mommie and daddy when he was a kid..........

    Oh but HES A SOLDIER!!

    I gotta agree with you.

There is no doubt in my mind that about after a year or so, he would be on everyone's SH#*T List here.

Buffalo and preMadonna's are not a good mix.

  11. When Haynesworth stomped on Gurode's head it disgusted me but I've changed my mind since then. This would be a welcomed attitude change for this team. No more nice guys please. I would love to see the Bills be a bunch of nasty, head stomping maniacs that are looking to taking no prisoners. We have players that think that they are thugs off the field but play like pansies on it. I say let's go get players that will at least play with some violence on the field. I'm tired of the fundraising players that have been making up our roster over the last several years. We don't need anymore boyscouts, we need some green beret mentality.

Amazing what a perennial All World player can do to change people's opinions.

    Having said that,

I would love to have Haynesworth.

    It would cost us though!

    ALOT!!!!

  12. Try throwing in minimum of a 1st round pick onto your package & maybe the cardinals will pick up the phone.

For sure! He would cost at least a first rounder and some.

But no less than a first rounder.

I never really liked the idea of having to Trade a high draft choice for a player and then work out an expensive contract. Seem's like a bit much to me.

But I won't be upset if we get him. Actually It'd be kinda cool ya know :censored:

  13. Jenkins signing is a good move. His role on this team is not to be a productive wide reciever, it is to be a good special teamer. If he is not on the opening day roster, he will be on the practice squad, so if any reciever goes down he will be placed on the active roster, or they will field 6 recievers and his role would exclusively be for ST's.

  14. Something must be in the water. Because there's no way McGee's not the best CB on this team right now. He may not lead the league in INT's or return kicks anymore, but he's a solid corner.

Go ahead and refer to the game at Miami where an injured McGee had issues covering Ted Ginn. That wasn't his fault, it was the .430 career winning percentage of a HC who didn't have the courage to play his top pick.

McGee will never be an All-Pro, but he's dependable. Considering the money, he's a good value as a CB.

I recall McGee struggling to learn the C2 back in 06 and the game against Detroit instantly comes to mind. But in those two years since, he hasn't been victimized in coverage, and is above average playing the run.

BTW, I love that term "trade bait." You can't expect to fetch any more than a 4th round pick in a trade, which means McGee is worth more than what you'll get in exchange for him.

I don't think that anyone other than a select few are doubting his play on the field. Those who bring up that example of the Miami game are being harsh and are your typical run of the mill fans who were angered of the outcome of the football game. The general consensus is that he is a very solid corner, and he is undoubtedly one of our better defensive players. The question is: If you value one year of solid service more than a 2nd, 3rd or 4th round draft choice? since we do have quality depth at that position, It is reasonable to consider trading him doesn't it?

  15. WOW, Mcgee has one bad game and everyone wants to trade him away. It only took Greer like 5 years to crack a starting lineup.

Sorry but i don't think Greer is anywhere near the talent Mcgee is.

Kota, it's not that everyone wants to trade Mcgee based on his play. There has been some harsh criticism by a couple of people, but the general over all consensus is that he is a quality db. The reason why it makes sense to consider trading Mcgee is for a few reasons.

    1. His age is 29 and seems to be getting injured a little more now than in the past.

    2. He is more expendable in the KO department, now that we have McKelvin.

    3. We have good depth at the DB position with Greer, McKelvin, Corner and Youbouty

    4. He becomes a FA at the end of next year. He would probably command a higher priced contract than Greer, considering his reputation and his value as a KO returner. Greer is not that much of a drop off from Mcgee and he is younger than Mcgee.

    5. If we Resign Greer and look to trade Mcgee, we would at least get something decent in value in return, as opposed to him hitting the FA market.

    6. If we don't resign Greer and Resign Mcgee next year, we would most likely spend more and we wouldn't get anything for letting Greer hit FA.

So basically, by trading Mcgee we save money, have no drop off from KO return duties, not much of a drop off in db coverage with Greer in, have a younger DB in Greer and gain a valuable draft pick or player in return.

This is why it makes sense.

  16. I think it's reasonable to think that when anyone gets released that you take that player into some sort of consideration. Some get lots more consideration than others based on need, scheme, age, talent, etc.

McCalister no doubt when healthy is a top tier db, considering he has been hit with the injury bug over the last couple years, his high price tag and the big time players that the Ravens need to resign, he is more of a cap casualty than anything else.

Having said that, I don't see him getting any sort of serious consideration from the Bills Brass, He most likely will go for a lot more than $2 Million a year and we do have good depth at the DB position.

  17. I've seen the guy play alot being in VA. We get almost all of the Maryland, UVA, VT, UNC, and NC State games in our "region". I know the guy is good in coverage. He had 7 picks and 5 more deflections. Some say he isn't going to time that well in the 40 and he's not as agile as other prospects, but he obviously makes plays. I know he had a key pass break-up against my team, ND, in the last couple minutes of the 4th quarter that cost us what would've been a first down to keep the drive going.

Your spot on H20. He most likely is not going to post a good 40 time and that is why he probably won't be a high pick. I've been a UNC Chapel fan all my life, and I saw the TarHeels play every game this year but 2. He may not post the fastest 40, but all he does is make plays. He was the leader of their defense, seemed to always be around the ball, and if he may be available late in the draft and I wouldnt mind drafting a safety that makes int's.

  18. Here's my draft in that scenario:

    21-Aaron Maybin OLB Penn State

    28-Michael Johnson DE Georgia Tech

    53-Jonathan Luigs OC Arkansas

    85-Travis Beckum TE Wisconsin

    107-Nic Harris SS Oklahoma

    139-Corvey Irvin DT Georgia

    170-Gartrell Johnson RB Colorado State

    202-Maurice Evans DE Penn State

Draft using DraftTek's Online Simulator www.DraftTek.com

Astrobot, do you have any thoughts on a safety from N.C named Trimane Goddard?

  19. I don't believe I want Mack after I heard how he was getting handled at the Senior Bowl practices, by everyone basically.

    H20

that was not the lowdown on Mack for the Senior Bowl Practices, He was the consensus Best all around Center Hands down by most of the Draft gurus during the Senior Bowl. If you look back at some of the threads, you'll see the commentary. In some of those commentary's, they said that the only center that was able to handle Raji on at least some plays was Mack.
