  1. Something tells me he'll get by on the 460K.

    thats not the point.

It's about being rewarded fairly in comparison to the people you work with.

$460K is an insult in this profession, specially considering the production that Fred Jackson brings to the table.

I hope they do the right thing and offer him a multi year contract

  2. Just got done watching about 7:20 minutes of Larry English on Youtube.

The guy has an incredible first step and (please no jokes) a great motor. Whistle to whistle. Also has a finishing burst which is incredible. He closes very quickly on his quarry and seems to accelerate into his hits.

Almost every sack was in a passing situation against shotguns. Most of them were where he lined up split wide and outran or ripped the OT to turn the corner.

He made one spin move which was aided and abetted by a chip block by the RB.

One sack was a stunt where he looped inside and came free.

There was 1 or 2 bull rushes. Those are much harder to execute against NFL tackles.

He doesn't seem to have developed a counter move yet and looks to me like he is dominating people with his athletic ability. He will probably get more polished. He seemed very rangy for a guy measured at 6'2" and 274.

Very impressive but a bit raw.

The other thing if you notice that is impressive about Larry English is that he gets his sacks from the right and left sides. So he isn't just effective rushing the qb from the blind side tackle but also from the other side. I like him alot, If we were not looking to pick up a DE with the first choice, I would be tempted to trade back into the latter half of the first round and pick him up. I see him being a James Harrison sort of player.

The only problem with that is that we don't draft pass rushing LB's and I'm not sure if he would fit as a natural DE

  3. I like Larry English as well. Maybin shows lots of promise but I'm very wary of him.

As far as your comment on Brown and how he rely's on his athletic ability, I don't think that is an accurate observation. He is widely regarded to have the best "moves" in this draft. The most well rounded pass rusher. He has the spin move, speed rush and the ability to bull rush the qb. If you go back and look at his sacks, he has a variety of moves and thats why he will most likely be the 1st DE picked in this draft.

But I do like Larry English a lot. I think Larry English will probably end up going to the Patriots. I see him being that hybrid LB/passrushing end sort of player.

  4. Couple days until FA and the Bills from my standpoint have made ZERO cuts to save more money on the cap? I seen the post a few days back stating that no cuts have been made, here we are Wednesday afternoon and unless I am mistaken, Ive seen no cuts by the Bills......

    patience young grasshopper

  5. Yup! He more than any other defensive end makes me feel more warm and fuzzy drafting him at the #11 spot. Some of the "gurus" question his height at 6'2. I don't. Of what I have seen he is the best pure pass rusher in the draft. Btw, Dwight Freeney is 6'1, he's not too shabby.

  6. With all this talk about signing Rogers, Jason Brown, Owen Daniels and Albert Haynesworth, us Bills fans are either very optimistic or we're just plain delusional. I think I'll go with the latter.

This song should be Bills fans anthem.

    It's called hopeful....

I dont' think anyone realistically believes that we will get all those players. But there is a possibility that we may get one of them and that's why the threads have been created.

It is a football board regarding the Buffalo Bills. What would you rather have us talk about in the offseason?

and if your not hopeful then what are you doing here posting anything in February?

  7. Lynch would be fired from the overwhelming majority of jobs in which you need to keep a good public image and be responsible, except the NFL. They are happy to sell jersey's with players names on them and players are happy to get $$$ deals based on their image but do face any repercussions from their employer for illegal/improper behavior. I'm not talking aboiut being Bob Hope I'm talking BASIC behavior where you dont get arrested, use illegal drugs, carry guns, assault people, run dog dog fighting rings etc.

According to you it appears you either have a double standard for NFL players or you wouldnt care if your kids teachers, social workers, entertainers (via Pee Wee Herman) or anyone else who had an impact on a kids life behaved this way-they need a break, blame it on the upbringing-maybe if he was fired other athletes would learn and it would stop these all to frequent problems. By allowing the PacMans of the world to hold court your hurting every kid on the fringe, they see no reason NOT to behave this way. No one player is above the game.

This so far has been the most ignorant statement of the day, and there has been a lot of them. How ever the day is young.

People do not get fired for what you just said. What country do you live in?

you are exactly the type of person that I was talking about in my last post.

    Typical

  8. It's not surprising that some of our Blue Collar brethren don't really like Marshawn. We accept our high paid players with half open arms, and the first hint of anything that we don't see as "right" or "proper" behavior in our views, we are ready to run them out of town. No wonder some people don't want to consider Buffalo as a destination. I mean, Really, would you? You do one thing that could be seen as questionable and you are judged and branded. Now we are Ready to Lynch , Lynch without recieving all the details, how typical.

  9. I think Poz played well considering it was his first full year. He was solid. Not spectacular, but just solid. Tackles well, has a nose to be around the ball, and unlike Fletcher he made tackles around the line of scrimmage. He wasn't too much of a play maker for us, but it was his first full season. I have to believe that he will show more in his second full year. There is a big difference for many players that enter their full second years.

  10. The Bottom line is that JP failed here. A good quarterback can end up making or breaking a coach. JP's pathetic, inept, unaware play led to the departure of Mularkey and one of the few good decisions Jauron made was recognizing this. He knew that there was no way that the Bills could get to where he wanted them to go with JP under the helm.

I supported JP every moment he played, but it was painfully obvious that he did not have the qb awareness and feel to the game that you need in your quarterback.

Sure he had all the tools, the strong arm for Buffalo's howling winds, the Big play bomb that was sometimes exciting to see, the occasional scramble, but he just couldn't find the open man after his first target was taken away.

How many times have we seen him drop back, just to get put on his back on a crucial third down or get sacked to put us out of the redzone or out of fieldgoal range. I just never figured out why in the world could he not just throw the ball away. He lacked that internal clock, he just has no feel for the game.

I will say this though, that Jets game, was sad and funny in so many ways. By this time, you know what your getting in Losman. You know he has no feel, you know he has a propensity to get sacked in any situation, and there is no doubt that Jauron put Losman in a situation to fail. There is no way in this world that he should of trusted Losman in that situation.

We've seen the Bills on an obvious running situation, with the lead, use that play action role out and it has worked for us. The only difference is that Trent Edwards was at the helm, and let's face it, Trent has a feel for the game, and he has delivered every time that play has been called.

So in that situation, all Jauron's fault, he should of known that Losman has a tendancy to not see things. He should of never put him in that situation.

That loss was just about unpardonable for Jauron.

But now he is still at the helm, and hopefully he will learn, and I hope that he doesn't repeat some of the same mistakes. He does get the players to play hard and I know that this board is very rough on him, understandably. But getting your players to play hard and all out is a testament to the coach and that does make up part of the equation of having a good team.

It's about, Talent, skill set, coaching and heart. I believe that this team does have heart and I believe that Jauron is partly responsable for that.

  11. Free agent CB Greer is being offered by the Bills 4 millon a year for a 5 year period. That's 20 million. In free agency he may be offered twice that amount.

Where is the money going to come from? Right now TV pays for most of it. BUT... CBS in the last quarter lost 52% of its revenue. The ad money is not coming in. The same is happening with the other networks. People are losing jobs, being cut back etc. Times are tough. Is the NFL immune?

I think not. Times are not good in this country. Players salaries can not and will not keep esculating. What will happen if the TV money is cut back and it could? ....... The salary caps will get cut back maybe from 123 million to 80 million. It Could happen. Will the Unions expect the owners to pony up the balance or be willing to have a across the board cut in players salaries. That is to be determined.

But who is worth 8 million a year anyway? Those salaries the players are receiving are way out of line with reality with what is going on today.

I guess it is ok though for they are getting what the market will bear.... but for how much longer. Things have to change........I guess they will try to get as much as they can while the getting is good. I would.....

    Ralph???

    Is that you?

  12. He only made the pro bowl as the 3rd best and there are numerous folks here who think freddy is better. personally I also belive ricky williams is better. So that's 5.

Taylor is pretty much better at everything except getting into trouble.

you have to understand, that anything you type regarding Marshawn Lynch is no longer credible.

  13. Why, even if you can add a late round 1st? Take another back in the mid rounds, and you can fix interior line and get a DE in the first.

RB solution same if not improved for a year or two. check

    DE solution check

    interior line helped check.

    One flaw with your logic.

"RB solution same if not improved for a year or two"

that was so easy to type, but not easy to come to fruition.

    Oh ya

    Now I remember

I forgot, your the guy who said Marshawn was the 5th best RB in the AFC east

  14. Tyson Jackson is way to slow to provide the Bills with any sort of pass rush. he is a tweener DE / DT and the last thing this team needs is a slow DE.

I would cry if that's who we end up with in any scenario. I'll stick with Orakpo or Maybin. Orakpo is the top DE in many mocks and evaluations after the combine.

People get too carried away with "speed rushers". Just Because some one is not a blazer doesn't mean they can't get to the qb. There is a player that you might recall, his name was Reggie White, He wasn't a speed rusher.

Tyson Jackson in my view probably is the safest pick for a DE in this entire Draft. He is strong against the run, has good moves to the qb and is an effective bullrusher.

Having said all that, I still would rather have Orakpo, but definitely not Maybin. Too much of a risk to get Maybin. He undoubtedly would be a situational passrusher in his first year at best. He probably won't be an everydown player for at least three years, he just doesn't have the strength to stand up tackles at this stage of his development.

  15. a third for a top 5 TE? What world do you live in?

Third would be too cheap for him and would be a very good bargain, but a First and Third is ridiculously high. Since he is an ineffective blocker, that definitely diminishes his value. Remember Fingon, TE's are lined up next to the tackles. Which means that they have to block some pretty big dudes. Running is part of the equation of having a good offense, so if he is not a good blocker, than that means he is a liability in our running game, which accounts for %50 of the plays. Does it really make sense to you Fingon to trade a 1st and a 3rd round pick to a player that is a liability on half of our offensive play calling.

So realistically in my view he is worth a second round pick.

  16. Why? Everyone has a price at which is makes complete sense to trade. The thread question was simply a hypothetical. Personally I wouldn't do it for a 2d and a 4th since half of all draft picks are busts, but I would certainly do it for a top flight WR like Boldin or Burress.

    great!!

trade one player who was accused of having a gun in a car trunk for another who shot himself in the leg.

  17. The "why trade pro bowl players" argument is a very valid one when talking about draft picks, as there is no assurance of how those picks will translate to the NFL, and I agree this would be a mistake.

However, if you are getting back a better talent like Boldin, then the fact Lynch was a Pro Bowl Alternate is irrelevant as Boldin is and has been a better player his whole career at a much tougher position to fill. You dont pass up a chance to get that kind of talent, epecially when giving up lesser talent at a position we are deep at. Lynch is a very good RB, but Boldin is an Elite WR. Jackson is no slouch either, so the drop off is minor, if there is any drop off at all.

Honestly, look at these two hypothetical lineups and which one do you think produces more points?

    Trent, Lynch, Jackson, Reed, Evans

Trent, Jackson, Taylor, Boldin, Evans (my pick for more points IMO)

Add in the fact that having Boldin would be a perfect compliment to how Trent likes to throw and it will open up the running game even more making the ground game more effective. I guess what it boils down to is your opinnion of Jacksons ability to be a starter.

I wouldn't be opposed to having Boldin.

That's a lot of money though for 2 wide receivers. Between Lee Evans and Boldin, you gotta figure thats close to $20 Million a year for 2 wideouts. That makes up around %16 of the total that we can spend on our entire team.

    $20 Million for 2 wideouts

$100 Million for the rest of the 50 players

doesn't seem proportionate to me. I would have to believe that this would water out the talent level moving forward, unless we drafted really well, since these guys you really don't take that much off the cap figure.

Having said that, I would love to have a Boldin as our #1 reciever. I would have to say that our offense would be better with him in the lineup as opposed to having Lynch and Jackson.

This would be one of the very few scenarios that I would be happy with.
