Just curious....why? He will make less than Evans. We could really use this guy, and Ralph just saved a billion dollars on Dockery. To put it in perspective, Coles is a MUCH better receiver than Dockery is a guard.
Just thinking out loud.....don't mind me.
The reason why i say this is because he turned down $6Million to play with the Jets this year. I would imagine that he didn't turn it down to make less. Having said that I hope we get it done.
-
I hear ya, but it's not just the Bills who feels that way, the centers are the least payed offensive lineman through out the league.
-
Gunshy, from the Dockery deal.
That's exactly what I was thinking when I read that.
-
Did you catch where it said that the Bills would not pay $7 Million a year to an interior lineman? If that is the case, then there goes Birk and Brown.
-
Jet's are definitely making a push to improve their defense.
But it won't mean jack unless they get a better qb.
-
That's about perfect with what I'd say too. It will be interesting to see what he ends up getting.
BTW, where's the dingus from Billzone who made those predictions about the FA period?
I don't mean gordong
why would you turn down a guaranteed $6 Million this year for that deal?
Doesn't make sense to me.
Don't get me wrong, I want him here. I'm just concerned at what cost.

According to Buffalo Rumblings, Coles hasn't left.
http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2009/2/27/...coles-fitzpatri
IF these sources are accurate, there is some good and bad news. Good news is obviously the Laverneous coles news. The bad news is that it mentioned that the Bills are not prepared to pay an interior lineman $7 Million a year. If that's the case, there goes Jason Brown or Birk.
-
But I thought someone offered him 8.5?
probably a rumor from his agent
-
IMO, $7 million a year isn't too much for 3-4 specialist. He's young and improving and excels at playing against the majority of Bills opponents defensive schemes.
I agree! Offer him 6 year $43 Million
If they could pay Dockery $7 Million a year, two years ago, and I would have to say that Jason Brown is regarded in higher esteem than what Dockery was when he was a FA, because of what I remember Dockery was regarded the third best guard in FA that year. Brown is considered the top center and that is with Birk and Saturday in that group.
If they don't make a strong push for Jason Brown, it just wouldn't make any sense to me at all. He seems like a perfect fit.

3 yrs. 12M & a 4M SB
I think that sounds about right to me.
The problem is that he gave up $6Million this year.
It doesn't make sense to me. I could see him wanting to improve his playing situation some what, but not at the expense of millions of dollars.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe he is nervous that he might not get a decent deal next year.
-
the jets have the equivalent of Gibran hamdan slated as their starter at QB with a new headcoach, and new offensive system. I'd want out too. He may getmore stats than evans if he signs here. I'd love this pickup if we get it. Picture josh reed, but a little better.
so how much is a fair price to pay him?
-
How much does everyone think Laveranues Coles should get paid per year at an average?
-
I thought I heard the guys from NFL network briefly say that the Jets were interested in him
-
The added bonus of adding coles: It will free up our TE in the middle of the field. They are going to have to account for both Evans and Coles on every down...throw in Reed, Johnson, or Parrish in a 3 WR set and they will gather a lot of attention...
So, D. Fine might become a play maker or some other TE we get likely in the draft or maybe in FA. Defenses still have to account for Lynch/Jackson out of the back field too...
Coles would be a really good signing IMO...Housh or Boldin would be best, but I will be happy with Coles
you may have to change your off season dream. Winslow is gone, and Greer most likely won't resign.
regarding Coles, I'd like to have him as well. The only problem is that Coles turned down $6 Million this year to play for the Jets, he must feel that he can get more than that with someone else. I'm not really too keen on paying him that sort of money.
-
They seem to be scratching their heads some what when they mentioned that Coles was in Buffalo.
-
Tim Graham is on WGR. He said he personally knows Birk's agaent and that Birk is not going to be coming to Buffalo.
great!!

Yes, Chris Kemoeatu re-signed with the Steelers.
Simmons is coming of an achilles tear and that takes usually two years to recover from.
Sam Cowart, Julian Peterson, Rod Woodson, Takeo Spikes, lots of guys have had achilles tears and have either never been the same player or took two years to recover. So I wouldn't get too excited about him.
Would love to get Birk, even if we get Hangartner. Coles at this point would be a nice addition. Also, get Vilma down here.
The most interesting thing would be to see which free agents the Bills called on the phone. That's where you gauge interest.
There's a report that Jason Brown received a phone offer of $8.5 per which was the highest offer so far but he didn't want to play for that team.
I'm not saying that the Bills were that team but fact remains, you can't sign guys who don't want to play for you.
probably a rumor his agent started.
It is starting to look like we won't be going after Brown. If not I really hope we go after Birk. We need an above average center. Hangartner from what I have read, struggles against the Bullrush and is more of a finess/technician style of player. We need a Stout, Strong as hell Center who can withstand these beast Nose Tackles in the AFC.
-
I'm hoping that we target more of a veteran as well.
-
Hes a guy that id love to see the Bills take a solid look at. Any thoughts about him?
no i havnt thought about him
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Stroud's contract expire at the end of the season. He might want to play out his current deal, then see what happens in an uncapped year.
your probably right
-
-You give players a large signing bonus up front and a small actual salary year one. That way a lot of the contract gets spread out over the length of the contract. This makes the cap number low the first year of the contract.
-A lot of the contracts the Redskins give out are not as large as they seem. The backload a lot of the money then release the player mid way through the contract.
-You get players to renogiate their contracts, give them money up front, which is once again spreads the cap hit over the life of the contract.
Thats a good explanation, but Haynesworth is getting payed $41 Million in his first three years.
-
we probably should approach him before he gets pissed and decides to hold out. These players want respect, and rightfully so.
And
Respect means $$
-
Now they are considering bringing in Chris Canty and he wants to get paid BIG $$$$
how the fu*k are they able to do this? I just don't get it.
Can someone please explain it to me.
