We're talking about franchises that could have hired him, but we did. It is a cheap hire because the coach and staff of a college coach costs much less to the bottom line than a seasoned professional coach. Nick Saban won multiple national championships, and is looking for another. How'd he turn out in the NFL? Steve Spurrier was one of the most successful coaches in NCAA football history. How'd he turn out in the NFL? BIG DEAL... college is NOT the NFL, and last time I checked, a fresh out of college hire hasn't won a Super Bowl since Dallas, the ONLY franchise to pull it off. That is a percentage so low that it is in single digits.

I am 100% with you... I find the positive spin doctors' attempts at justifying this cheap hire as far worse than 'hilarious'. We all deserve better as Bills fans, and yet there are still those out there who get kicked in the face by a shiny golden boot and say "thank you". How many times will players and fans be kicked in the face before they realize that things are that bad?

Adam Schefter just said on ESPN that Chip Kelly's college career is over with, and it is looking like he will be either the Browns or Bills head coach. It was funny he didn't mention the Eagles.... they are interviewing with him now (?)

Thurman Thomas played for the Buffalo Bills for many years, our best NFL years, has a presence in politics, in involved inside the Bills organization, and is a Hall of Fame running back. That is far more presence that some whiny guy who huffs and puffs and takes his toys and goes home. Adding 90% of the members of this board? You should retract that, because that is obviously not true. OHH, an ON LIKE A MOFO means RW is no longer involved in day to day operations, for those writers who still haven't figured that out.

I'm not the only one by far to question the lack of progress in the NFL coaching ranks when it comes to diversity, especially back then. Cottrell retired rather than go through the charade, and the Rooney Rule is regularly abused. Sorry, but I'm not in the thin minority on this.

You betcha they did... but it is precisely this 'inner circle' that has gotten us to this point. He was a finalist in San Francisco, from what I remember... and yet the Bills gave him nothing like that.

I'm goung to flat out say it... I assume that since Lovie Smith is not being interviewed right away, they are not hiring an African American coach. They figure Horton covers their butt under the Rooney Rule is what I see. I hope I am dead wrong, but after Cottrell and Fewell and Lewis not getting a shot, it creeps into my mind and it is sad.

So I will say what I did last night... Lovie Smith went to the SUPER BOWL with REX GROSSMAN at quarterback. If that is not the exact opposite of what normally happens, I don't know what is. All the MORE reason to hire this guy. NOW.

Drafting and scouting isn't a clean and efficient operation- you re talking about a brain trust if you will that must analyze the "player intel" and act accordingly. What this is doing is removing Nix's final approval and giving him an advisory role. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and the military does it all the time...

There are two things I take from this morning's events: 1. Ralph Wilson has rewarded loyalty by retaining his team, giving Brandon full control, and allowed Nix to fade away without being cast into the street for being a professional. 2. The rep for the Bills has just exponentially increased. It is obvious to me that top nme coaches want to come here and they are actually wanted and not given lip service to soothe the fans. The ONLY negative IMO is Nix still being involved, but the more I think about it the more Thurman was right- this IS exciting!
