  1. No, they don't need what most folks would call "elite" corners, but they do need bigger, longer guys that can bang receivers, play disciplined in their zones, and make smooth transitions from playing in reverse to breaking down on run plays. I'd say in the 2nd or 3rd (just as they did in Carolina). I think you'll see someone like Quincy Wilson (2nd), Fabian Moreau (2nd), or Rasul Douglas/Shaq Griffin (R3). I could also see Chidobe Awuzie if he made it into R2 as well.
  2. It's just as important, just for different reasons. My point is less about the positional importance and more about the idea that Seymour is the literal definition of "anybody" in this case. I'm not comfortable with "anybody". Gettleman recognized that McDermott's D needs capable corners despite letting Norman walk; hence they drafted Bradberry and Worley in rounds 2 and 3 (respectively) last year.
  3. Shoot I don't know how I missed that...though I did remember correctly that Flowers only started 8 games Thanks for keeping me honest. My point was more along the lines of that they aren't exactly a brilliant organization with regard to personnel. They merely do enough to give Brady and Belichick a chance each and every year.
  4. What situation? The one where they're going to be $50M under the cap next year? The cap hasn't exactly been prohibitive to them; it's been poor allocation as opposed to reckless spending...an astute fan would recognize as much. And no, the Patriots don't do everything perfectly. In fact, their 2014 and 2015 drafts have produced a combined zero starters (unless Flowers starts this year). PS--if you're going to post here, at least try to provide some measure of worthwhile contribution.
  5. There will never be anything like The Comeback game. I get literal chills every time I think about it--incredible.
  6. For those of you that want to keep track of the medicals, this is a great site: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/profootballdoc/

  8. How can anyone be comfortable with Seymour as a starter based on his body of work in either college or as a rookie?
  9. I was taking issue with the idea that he's not a top-5 backup. He had fewer carries than 8 other backups, yet had more yards than all but 1. He's definitely a top-5 backup by the numbers, so forgive me if I'm a bit confused as to your position (and I don't mean that in a snarky way).
  10. Gilly finished 29th in the NFL in rushing. Here is a list of RBs that had more rushing yards than Gilly despite not leading their team in carries: Bilal Powell http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=0&statisticCategory=RUSHING&conference=null&season=2016&seasonType=REG&d-447263-s=RUSHING_YARDS&d-447263-o=2&d-447263-n=1 Now, here's a list of RBs that had more carries than Gilly despite not being their team's leader in carries: Derrick Henry CJ Anderson Paul Perkins Chris Ivory Tevin Coleman Matt Asiata Jacquizz Rodgers Tim Hightower Bilal Powell So...who's the top 5 if not Gilly?
  11. I think the larger issue is that you'd ideally like to have another speed/breakaway back that can take carries in the event that Shady gets hurt so that you don't have to re-invent the offense. Not that you can't find those guys in the draft; you can. I just think the idea that the team has allowed another hole to open that was entirely preventable is putting people out.
  12. I will be embarking upon my 29th year of season tickets.
  13. Can you please post anything other than the same "could you do any better?" blather for the 100th time?
  14. Yes they can still match; no they haven't made a decision yet.
  15. I still think he goes in the 10-20 range; he's the kind of guy that you can get 1st round value out of even if he only plays 20 snaps per game. I could see any of NO, Philly, Baltimore, Tennessee, or TB biting. I think Detroit could be interesting as well given that they have nothing but Abbrederies and TJ Jones behind Marvin Jones and Golden Tate.
  16. No worries--it can be quite difficult to tell when someone is stating pure opinion versus credible information.
  17. Just FYI...if Simon is saying it, you can take it to the bank that that's what the team is doing. He's not speculating.
  18. Mike Williams doesn't exactly match the profile for Whaley guys or the type that has success with Tyrod. Taylor seems to like the speed guys (as does Whaley).
  19. You need to look at AAV and not just cap hit. Guys like Theo Riddick--who were supposed to be backups before injuries hit--are getting that much in AAV.
  20. There are at least 4, but that's not really the point. The point is more that recent backup RB contracts are absolutely in that vicinity. Now as I've said, one can make a salient argument that the team can't afford to pay a backup $4M for this upcoming season when they're paying the starter $9M, and it's worth discussing. IMO, looking at next year, when the cap hit drops to $2.5M and the cap goes up, we'll be happy they did it.
  21. Unless, of course, we were taking the going rate of backup running backs into context, as I've posted multiple times in this thread. Backups are getting $3M/year in the NFL now; this is hardly a ground-breaking contract. How about we take a late-round flier on Aaron Jones of UTEP? Seems like a great fit for Dennison's offense.
  22. Darn it Yolo...that was my joke in the FA thread
  23. Robert Blanton signs with Dallas... Add one to the comp picks formula!
