NFL.com ranks Top 25 QB's of All Time: Jim Kelly #21
thebandit27 replied to StHustle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that's a bit low for Kelly. I've become accustomed to calling him a top-15 QB. But so much of it is subjective. I think there's an unquestioned top 4 of (in no particular order) Unitas, Montana, Brady, Manning. After that there's a HUGE chasm before you get to the next tier of 10-12 that includes, IMO: Elway, Marino, Kelly, Aikman, Favre, Brees, and Graham. I can see an argument for Bradshaw based upon Super Bowl wins, so throw him in there as well. Same goes for Big Ben. I think recency-bias is weighing too much when I see names like Rodgers, Wilson, and Warner in there, but if you add those dudes in there, then there's your group of 12. So I suppose I'd say there's a top-4, a top-16, and after that it's highly debatable. -

Geez...Leonard Little part II. You'd like to think that once alcohol use results in causing the death of another person, a guy would learn to make some lifestyle changes. Apparently not. -
Levy/Kelly ranked 8th Coach/QB duo

I don't think many folks would agree with that. -

When you win 9 cups across 3 organizations, I think it's okay that people call you that. -
The myth of the sophomore QB slump
thebandit27 replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you guys, and I also think it's important that we define what results we're expecting to see. For me, it's 3 things: 1) I expect to see more decisiveness in the passing game 2) I expect to see a less rushed setup/delivery on quick throws and when things break down 3) I expect to see a greater willingness to take what the defense gives If Josh shows me those 3 things, I'll go ahead and declare him a franchise QB in the making. -
If you count "potential guarantees" (which aren't really guaranteed), then yes. Because that would factor in his 2019 option bonus and 2020 roster bonus, both of which didn't guarantee until 3/15/19, and his 2020 base salary, which doesn't become fully-guaranteed until next March. If you're talking fully-guaranteed money at signing, the number is $20M: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/los-angeles-rams/brandin-cooks-14429/

Daniel Jeremiah’s Top 5 Offenses and Defenses for 2019

The only metric I look at in addition to the above is average number of 1st downs allowed per game. -

I promise that it takes absolutely no football genius to know that Trent Dilfer was not a good NFL quarterback, let alone an all time great. I just think it's laughable that anyone with such an outlandish and indefensible claim would expect to be taken seriously in any QB discussion is all. I mean, you're a nice guy and all, but that take is just absurd -

As long as you realize that your Dilfer-is-an-all-time-great opinion renders your opinion about all things QB-related moot, then we're good. -

So Dilfer is an all time great? You know that's a laughable take, right? -

What? That's like, the opposite of every impression I've ever gotten from him. -

Wait, aren't you the same @reddogblitz that once called Trent Dilfer "an all time great"? The same Trent Dilfer that had the following stat line over his first 18 starts: 7 wins, 11 losses, 262/497 (52.7%), 3,207 yards (6.45 YPA), 5 TDs, 24 INTs, 55 sacks, 56.13 passer rating -

I respectfully submit that the way you control the clock is to get first downs; it has nothing to do with running or passing. Buffalo's problem wasn't getting off the field too fast on offense; it was that they couldn't stop the Giants on defense. Like I said: 56% 3rd down conversion rate...that's sickening.
