  1. I’m not sure why Pete (metzelaars_lives) is having to defend his post(s)? I predicted and hoped EJ would be the starter this year, so I suppose that makes me an EJ "fanboy". EJ is developing, but unfortunately IMO he's still a step behind TT and Cassel. It's also pretty clear that Cassel is their most known commodity and maybe the most consistent. Why wouldn't Roman want that as an OC? TT seems to have the most upside, because he can make something out of nothing. Ultimately, none of these QB’s are the total package or we wouldn’t be having a competition or this debate. Pick your favorite (and yes, Roman gets to have one) and argue all you want, but let's be grateful that we have coaches who are allowing these average QB's to be successful. The winning 2 pt. conversion the other night was a thing of beauty and that wasn’t EJ – it was Roman.
  2. Darn. Taking a dump in that tiny bucket was harder than beating the BIlls. (Sorry, I hate Tommy Boy as much as anyone, but I couldn't resist.)
  3. Earlier today, I posted this is another thread. http://www.advancedn...udy-part-4.html It's OK to punt, but Marrone needs to be MUCH more aggresive on 4th down.
  4. You are correct. (The author acknowledges this in the comment section of the article.) This graph should stop at 90 or have N/A. Likewise it is impossible to have 4th and 4 from the 3. Currently it seems to indicate a FG as the correct choice in that impossible situation. How about always going for the TD on 4th down inside the 6 yard line? Revolutionary!
  5. Exactly. The results showed that there is such a high probability of the other team scoring on the next possession after the punt, that you are better off going for it. It sounds absolutely crazy, I agree, but it really makes sense.
  6. I now nothing about his job, but I know that there is statistical evidence that shows an aggresive approach to 4th down, based on field position and yards to gain, would translate to more points in a game.
  7. http://www.advancednflstats.com/2009/09/4th-down-study-part-4.html Nothing new here. I just wish Marrone would try it. At 3-7, why not? It worked for Billy Beane.
  8. I agree 100%. I just wish Marrone had the b@lls to let the analytics department help decide 4th downs based on field position and distance to gain. It's long overdue. I am sick and tired of punting for field position. As Easterbrook says, 4th and 5 on the PIT 36 with 14:09 in the 4th quarter : Punt = GAME OVER.
  9. If Michelangelo was sculpting a defensive end....do I really need to continue?
  10. overreaction an excessive reaction; a reaction with inappropriate emotional behavior example: this thread
  11. Time to implement the 3rd down punt....to catch them off gaurd.
  12. I don't think it's a big loss. I was really disappointed with his play, regardless of the fumble.
  13. I was upset all game that we didn't go for it on 4th and 4 on their 40 yard line when it was tied 7-7. We punt. It goes into the end zone. Net yards = 20. Once again we don't play to win. The 4th and one at the end of the game was cowardly, inexcusable and it proves that Dick should be gone. He plays not to lose. If you want more in depth explanation just read TMQB in a couple days. One vote for Bobby April. Let him start tomorrow.
  14. I know this is beating a dead horse, but the Detroit Lions were undefeated in the preseason last year. How'd that work out?
  15. 8. I think, the more I watch football this summer, Vick's new team should be the Bills. Nothing against Trent Edwards. I just think the Bills are in it to win it this year. Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writ...l#ixzz0NmkfQCKr
