CBS Crew for Miami Game: Kevin Harlan, Trent Green and Melanie Collins
wjag replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
Rumor has it Tony doesn't like broadcasting in the heat. It's a rumor, because I started it. -
I've been thinking a lot about the Ravens collapse, part with glee, part with amusement, and part with astonishment. Harbaugh coached teams don't do this or at least they didn't. A thought. Last year their entire secondary was on IR. They had replacement players all over the field. Cincy smoked them twice, but the remainder of the games they played competitively, just significantly undermanned. What happens? John Harbaugh needs a scalp so he goes after DC Wink Martindale. Wink ends up in Buffalo East. All of a sudden Buffalo East is playing defense again and Baltimore gets smoked on defense. Coincidence?

I really think this is the key to this game. Can Bills rush four and flood the secondary with 7. This is a 2-high safety look for 100% of the snaps that Hill is on the field. I think one thing Hill has proven is he makes QBs better. He can take a slant to the house (as we have seen in AFCCG. So can the Bills get home with 4? Elam and Benford and Lewis and Johnson and Poyer and Hyde and Milano are going to have their hands full. Should be a good test for both teams.

The oft-repeated and emphasized phrase today is "not seriously injured", which has led some to think he could play. Make no mistake he is/was "INJURED". You don't take a hit like that and not be injured. Heck he almost had his head taken off. The Bills have demonstrated repeatedly that they don't play injured players. Remember last year with Milano and KC? Big game, essential player, and nope he didn't play. Dane is out weeks in my opinion. The only question in my mind is what does weeks mean? 2, 3, 4 ...? One could eye that Green Bay game and think that is realistic for his return to play.

When it happened, this was my first thought. He got turfed. So I never considered something else until this AM when everyone was saying hammy.. Watching it again, me thinks hammy. Would love to be wrong.

Didn't realize Bud Dupree got injured. You would think a loss of that significance would make it to the broadcast. Unless it did and I just didn't catch it. Dupree and next week's Melvin Ingram are significant rushing problems for the Bills. -

AND where timeouts are 30 seconds long, challenges are 2-3 minutes. Nice respite for a team on their heals on that drive. -
The run defense is allowing the whole thing to work at the moment. The Bills offense is doing what we expected. Teams WASTING downs trying to run is what is killing them. Bills get a lead and teams then abandon the run to a relentless pass rush. Biggest difference, SO FAR, from last year to this year, is no one is gouging them on the ground.

Just watched the Gilliam TD again. The play is blown up from the snap. Somehow Gilliam gets out of the tackle. Then watch it from there. The team walled off the Titans with blocks down field. An absolute clinic on downfield blocking. -

Tennessee press just brutal to the coach in the loss. Vrabel stood up there and took it, but what brutal questions to have to answer about his team and his coaches/coaching.. -
Bills have played two physical teams B2B. Miami should be an interesting game.

Wow really? He’s a third of his old size if true. Never, ever would I have guessed Oline. I was thinking safety like Leonard Smith. -
Not likely IMO. McD will come out and say something like he hasn’t had a chance to talk with medical staff. He will give the same answer about Dane he gave last night.
-
Other than some injuries, is there anything NOT to like about last night?!?

Agree. I really thought that was a chance to give the D a rest. -

Shakir didn’t wow. Missed block on 4th and 1. Dropped a pass that he seemed to catch in preseason. -

The after glow: 1. Dane we all hope it wasn’t as bad as it looked. Heal and be well. 2. Edmunds with a huge sack. Splash play. Too bad he was involved in Dane’s injury. 3. The Dline was playing bully ball. 4. Looks like 2 rookies and Neal playing in Miami. Not ideal. 5. Allen is a machine. That 50 yard flick to Diggs was effortless. 6. Milano played one of his best games. 7. Phillips in the middle is working well. 8. Diggs was doing whatever he wanted to tonight. The man is money. 9. Turns out the Bills do have a punter and he’s pretty good. 10. Reggie Gilliam is such a lunch pail guy. And now he’s a receiving threat 30 yards downfield. 11. Bills had a 3 tip interception tonight. -

Enjoy folks. This is what we’ve been waiting decades for. -
It’s pretty windy on the field. Going to be a factor in this game.
