Much like the blind deification of Trump is what gets you right wingers through the day. For someone like me mostly in the middle, and voted Trump in 2016, I am happy to see him gone as no matter what your opinion of him, he was a willing lightning rod stoking divisiveness and controversy.

I found it mostly to be a blatant hit piece, and yes alternatives to monopolies like Google, Twitter, Amazon, etc are always welcome. Cutthroat business practices haven't changed, just the businesses have. Thanks to technology, controlling information is now of massive importance and it's easier than ever to manipulate that information.

Interesting points about a possible Russian connection but huge, unprofessional bias by the author. Far below the intelligence of articles you normally post. Just sayin'.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
GaryPinC replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Science is a lot of gray. It takes time, sometimes a very long time, before the numbers can reasonably capture the reality of the science. This is a very unique virus. Now from March we've learned a hell of a lot, but there's a lot to still be learned before we can say we've got control of it. Kudos to you for stepping up and admitting you were wrong. Not a big deal, but in these polarized times much needed.👍 People like Magox operate best in a numbers only bubble, failing to analyze or weigh how much the numbers fail to capture. In fact, in trying to explain that to him, he chooses to ignore it. Always hate willfully closed minds but he feels it works well for him. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Thanks for the updated sources. I hadn't looked at the CDC in a bit and realized they feel it's the larger droplets. The thing about anti-maskers that cracks me up is I could teach a 6 year old the usefulness of masks but you can't teach them: 1. Put your hand 12 to 16 inches in front of your mouth and blow hard into it. 2. Put your mask on and repeat step 1. And that's air you're affecting, let alone a thousands of times larger viral particle. -
Absolutely will I accept those results. The real question is after all the swing states are recounted and Biden is announced the legal winner of the presidency will you accept the results?

Great stuff and contributions on this, thanks! One point you hit on I really like is discussing the non-racial unconscious bias. IMO, this is not emphasized enough as a segue to then discuss racial-based bias. Certainly the diversity trainers I have had focus on white/black racial bias which immediately polarizes the listeners. Humorous irony while they preach inclusion. WRT NFL minority coaching development, definitely agree some kind of fellowship and/or minority scholarship program would be best if the NFL is serious about this. It seems any future NFL coach had to start at the bottom for little to no money and work their way up. Part of this I see as being akin to med school rotations and residency hours where they're testing your passion and commitment along with your ability. NFL should reach out to minorities/minority college programs and educate candidates what's expected of them. The "unwritten" rules. Mentors is a great idea also.

I'm seeing the situation as this. Poyer telling Thad Brown "I thought we were on the same team" implies there was a connection and relationship behind the scenes as most good sports reporters try to cultivate. Poyer feeling he is the best safety in the league is just to motivate himself and control what he can control, he has no desire to put himself above anyone else or mince statistics. The best safety takes on that punishing block, sacrifices his body to make the tackle, etc. I'm sure he realizes it could appear disrespectful to his peers and seeks to avoid that individual comparison perspective. I think he's miffed at Brown because he felt behind the scenes Brown understood this but clearly it was not the case.

That's a joke at best used in a small group of close friends, not on a general BB of fans discussing a highly respected player.

Tua Tagovailoa - Future of Miami?
GaryPinC replied to BillsM@fia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If they know he's their guy then it could go either way (sit, learn or play now) depending on the opinion of the front office. I just wanted to mention that what goes on in the meeting rooms and practices has a large impact. All you have to do is look at Nate Peterman and Josh Rosen to figure that out. But in the end, no matter how confident you are in your young QB, there's no substitute for performing under live fire. Flores says this isn't an audition, I believe him in the sense that Tua will be the starter to the end of the season barring catastrophe. But, given the potential for a high draft pick, they definitely need to see what he's got . Give Tua credit, he's shown enough ability behind the scenes to earn the look where Rosen never did. -
Well, he seemed to be making bigger hits again against the Pats so hopefully his injury is mostly resolved. On the other hand, this entire season he seems out of position on many plays because he is peeking in the backfield all the time ball watching and biting on play fakes. Then he figures out where he's supposed to be and uses his quicks to try and get there but often the ball has beaten him and he's hopelessly behind or actually gets there with too much momentum and overruns the ball. Can someone explain to me what this behavior has to do with his injury?

Funny story OP, and so true. I'll add this:. I don't give a crap about buying any female product, just tell me exactly what you want and I'll pick it up. And therein lies the true problems: getting clear communication about the exact item and being able to discern the subtle packaging cues to land the correct one. Brand, color, number, shape, day/night, heavy/normal/light. And I'm sure there's more. It's like cracking into the safe in "Die Hard", many layers of security. Taking the old packaging and devout prayer are the best approach. For newlyweds, it's more about trying to knock you off your game and have a funny story to tell their friends, so don't fret too much.

Final Vote—All States, Progress in counting
GaryPinC replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Don't know how the election turns out but Trump supporters have to be happy. He's shown a lot more strength with voters than I thought he could. -
Thanks for being classy. I think BB already knows Stidham stinks. But going back to his time in Cleveland, he has no problem pulling the plug on a fading vet to give a young QB a look. I think he normally would have benched Cam after last week and most certainly after today if Stidham has any real potential to be a starter.

A Few Thoughts About the Jets Game, in no particular order
GaryPinC replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
About as good, I would say the offense is a little better and defense a little worse. But I have hope the defense can return to form. They seem to not be playing well as a unit and flowing to the ball. Miscommunications in the secondary, bad angles, missed gaps etc. That's all fixable and I expect as much. Hopefully second half was the start of it! -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
GaryPinC replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Aerosolization involves a wide range of droplet sizes, including the sizes you are thinking of. Go back to the pictures I provided you. Virus will be on all sizes of droplets, the larger the droplet the more virus. The majority of virus will be blocked and/or not go far. Sure, some of the smallest droplets less than 0.5 micron will pass through the mask but given the mask is at least thousands of times thicker than even the smallest droplets few will have an easy path through. The small amount that manage to pass fairly freely through to project out will be in stark contrast to the majority that were flat out blocked or had their velocity reduced to almost nothing on exit. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
GaryPinC replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I've never seen anyone cough or sneeze pulling their mask off first. I've seen my share of folks at the store who leave their nose exposed and randomly cough/sneeze without pulling it up. But that's a minority here in Ohio. I have also seen people cough with masks on, many also cover their mask with hand/elbow just like I continue to do (habit!) -

Of course it travels as an aerosol. Which is perfectly covered by the charts above. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerosol -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

FIG. 16. Analysis of different droplet types over cough cycles. https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/5.0015044 For Figure 16 the blue triangle line is the maskless condition. You (and others) seem to always miss the point that the mask is a barrier that significantly knocks down the amount of droplets being expelled away from the face and the distance most of them travel. This paper here is the most conservative numbers in terms of distance, many of the others show even larger efficacy of masks. Again, this is the reason surgeons wear masks and are taught to operate at arm's length as much as possible. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
GaryPinC replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The evidence is there. Contact tracing will reveal it, I don't know how much has been published but it will. I can trust the authorities on that one. How significant a factor is it? Well, that's a different discussion and less certain. Doesn't mean your WHO researcher's was a solid enough study though. Having a brother who recovered from Covid and a daughter twice directly exposed here in Ohio, here's the rules the Ohio department of health and county departments of health told us: - If you exhibit symptoms you were contagious up to 2 days before they began. - Once your major symptoms (fever, cough) have cleared up you are considered non-contagious after 48 hours. The other county DOH mandates only 24 hours. Even if you are having minor symptoms or still not 100%, you no longer need to quarantine. Masks are going to slow down or stop the projection and dispersion of your breath moisture. And also keep that moisture close to you. Coupled with social distancing that should be beneficial to slow down or stop the spread of a respiratory bacteria or virus. They primarily protect others from you, not the opposite. Same reasons surgeons wear them. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
GaryPinC replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That's "may have been infected" not "has been infected". It's all estimates. The studies I've seen try assess asymptomatics are from the spring and the ones that actually bothered to follow through had around 80% of the asymptomatics become symptomatic within 7-10 days. Which means they most likely wouldn't have escaped testing. The best way to figure it out will be antibody testing and that'll be awhile. They way the WHO has botched this thing (they're just now admitting lockdowns isn't the best way to handle this anymore), I hope you'll forgive me if I disregard their "estimates". -

GaryPinC replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Is there any hard evidence to back up the untested, asymptomatic numbers other than estimates? If not, it's really not proper to throw those in. At this point it's easily overblown. Rudy's correct about that. Just not as correct as the right wingers imagine. -
Why, yes! Other than the intermittent smell of cordite I'd wager the two groups indistinguishable to even the ardent observer.
