And with the #9 pick, the Buffalo Bills Pick
High Mark replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its nice to see someone who thinks with that logic. None of these QBs are NFL ready day 1 start guys. No QB really is ever. Its well stated that 3 years to develop should be given before grading a class. Tebow has everything one needs to become a good QB. His mechanics can be changed. He can learn the footwork. Does anyone really think he is not capable of changing those things? I dont see how you can think that knowing everything we know about the kid. Who is going to be the best QB in 3 years and beyond. Thats the question. IMO the Bills can afford to let him sit for 3 years because we wont have a remotely competant team for at least 2 1/2 years anyways. -
So why does Buddy know talent?

How about... This guy if he falls our third

He is limited with his arm strength - think Chad Pennington He played in a system with less reads than OKs and even FLs - he is farther behind than even Tebow Half of his passes were screen passes Poor ccuracy by NFL standards - spare me the completion % #s and read the line above. Also an inaccurate pass could easily be a completed pass. Has little room to improve unlike many other Qbs in this draft like McCoy/Tebow/Brown/Pike among others. With decent footwork and a good release, his ability to improve his accuracy will be limited. His arm strength will also not improve bc of the same reasons. He is not very far along in terms of reading the D either. I havent seen a single person claim that Lefevour is the 3rd best QB. Here is Mayocks rankings: Quarterbacks --------------- 1. Sam Bradford* 2. Jimmy Clausen* 3. Colt McCoy 4. Tim Tebow 5t. Dan LeFevour, Tony Pike Thats the highest I have seen him. The Blesto-V scouts have him in the 10th-13th best range as can be viewed at walterfootball.com draftcountdown.com Why do you think he is any good? Have you seen him play? He is very unimpressive. -
Does anyone know how bad his injury is? Could he even play this season? He was a PBer in the past, but so was Peters. We better do our HW on this issue and make a move if its a good deal.
-
Come on guys, Shanahan is no idiot. Campbell clearly has something to offer or the Skins wouldnt have extended him. PS I still want Tebow, but I dont know if I can wait long enough to develop him. We need a QB now.
-
Thank God. I dont want to rely on Hangman for anything but backup duty. I have seen enough of him getting bowled over by competent DL. I bet he plays this season while Wood rehabs and takes his spot in 2011And I believe his contract was 4yrs, $9.5 Mil. Not certain though.
-
Thank you.

I dont think he is being considered as an NT personally. I think he could be a PB end.
-
What the hell. I dont want to trade down! I want the Bills to trade their pick, for a PB player, in the same fashion that we traded away Jason Peters. For example: Wilfork is pissed he is tagged. He called it a slap in the face. He wants to be paid. Similar to Jason Peters one year ago. The Eagles saw Peters, and traded a 1st rounder + a 4th for him, then paid him his money. I think the Bills should really try and do the same thing with Wilfork. What are the chances the Bills get a player even half as good as Wilfork at 9? We could then pay Wilfork his money and have teh best 3-4 NT in the league anchoring our new defense. If the Pats dont go for it, try SD and try to get McNiel. McNiel no doubt is pissed he can get tendered with a low dollar amount. If he causes the fuss Peters did and is going to skip training camp - maybe SD would avoid all that by trading him for a top 10 pick. The Bills would then get a solid proven LT with their #9. Considering how bad the Bills are at drafting, more than likely the best way to get good value with the pick is to trade it for a proven PB player at a position of need. I dont not want more picks I want proven players.
-
What a surprise. I dont think anyone would be talking about this kid if Tan McShay wasn't all over his dik. He looks very uncoordinated when you watch him play. He feet are heavy and slow. He will get demolished in the kick slide drill they do at the combine and drop like a rock.
-
I think that is Mayocks nice way of saying he is a second round talent. Im not sure how I would feel about taking him in the second. Part of me likes his potential but the other part knows he sucks. Bulaga or bust.
-
A part of me hopes Bulaga is drafted before us, because if he is not I just know that we will draft Trent "bust"Williams over him regardless and I will be so pissed. I dont want to relive 06 and 09 over again. Missing on Willis was so much more pleasant than passing on Ngata/Orakpo
-
I didnt say the Bills should look to get more picks. I said they should look to get a proven vet entering the prime of their career. Four diff GMs but the same scouting staff, thats why we suck no matter who the GM is. I know that Wilfork and McNiel are tagged/tendered, that is exactly why I said we should trade for them using our #9 pick. Did anyone read what I wrote? I dont want more picks I want players, and while we had a good draft last year with Nix on board, we still blew our top pick. Thats doesnt give me much faith moving forward.

I'm no fan of John Clayton, but he makes sense here...

Suh could play QB and our D would be better than last year. PS: Suh can play 1, 3, or 5 tech easy. Stop claiming he is limited. -

We could always take him in the 5th round if we really get that desperate. He simply doesnt have much NFL potential. -
This could be said of every postion in the League. The best players go in round 1. Will that said, I still want Bulaga.
-
I personally think Williams fits the exact mold of a 3-4 end. The Steelers have built their defenses behind guys who play exactly like Williams. No one wants him to be an NT in the 3-4. If he is thats because he is foced to because we dont land anyone else. I dont see why so many fans dont think he fits teh scheme. Now he may not be exaclty what the Chargers or Cowboys would like in their more penetrating 3-4 style, but the Steelers or Ravens would love Williams and use guys just like him. He has 2 gap 5 tech spewing out his ears, and I predict his play improves with the switch (as long he is at his natural 5 tech position)

Reports are/were/I remember hearing the Pats were thinking of dumping Matt Light with the emergence of Sebastion Vollmer. The Pats most likely wouldnt go for this, but a combo of Wilfork/Matt Light would solve our biggest two issues. Not too likely Im sure, but its an option I look into If I am Buddy Nix.

This draft is deep at OL and DL. Focus there and I am happy. (When I say DL, I include college DL players like Kindle/Graham who would be LBs in our 3-4. OL/DL/3-4 OLBs should be the Bills focus)

Don Banks - Interesting comment on his mock draft....

He makes a good comment about the staff, but T. Williams still blows. -
CG press con. before noon today

Not sure who Boo Radley is, but I assume Incgonito? With Hang as the startign center, we most certainly to do not have a good nucleolus. I predict Wood is the C once he returns. -
I think the Bills should seriously consider moving the #9 pick for a proven commodity. Before we talk about how valuable a top 10/first round pick is, lets look at 10 Bills drafts, skipping over 08 and 09 because its too early to tell (I am including the Parrish pick in 05 bc it was essential our top pick that year, having traded away our 05 first a full year in advance, which allowed us to focus on that pick being our first in that draft) 2000 Erik Flowers 2001 Nate Clements 2002 Mike Williams 2003 Willis McGahee 2004 Lee Evans 2004 J.P. Losman 2005 No 1st Round Pick, Roscoe Parrish (2nd Round) 2006 Donte Whitner 2006 John McCargo 2007 Marshawn Lynch Now to quatify that with a % success rate, I am going to use a simple grading system. A 1 will equal a good pick with good value and production from that player relative to their draft position. a 1/2 with equal a decent player with decent production relative to their draft position. A 0 [zero] will basically be a bust, or someone who has disappointed relative to draft position. This scale will result in any average over 50% as above average. I will be very gracious with my ranking too. 2000 Erik Flowers: Zero - complete bust. Started 5 games before being benched, only last 2 years before being cut. 2001 Nate Clements 1 - one of the better corners to hit FA when the Bills didnt resign him. Played 6 years for the Bills. 2002 Mike Williams: Zero -Complete Bust. Never played LT and was out of the league a few years later. 2003 Willis McGahee: 1/2 - missed entire rookie year. Played well when he was in. Would be a zero if his trade did not bring in 2 third round picks 2004 Lee Evans: 1/2 - One of the better players on the team but a WR taken 13th overall should be more productive regardless of who is throwing him the ball. Labeled a 1 trick pony. 2004 J.P. Losman: Zero- banished to the UFL after his rookie contract expired. 2005 No 1st Round Pick, Roscoe Parrish (2nd Round): Zero - never more thana Punt returner. Bills needed more value with this pick. 2006 Donte Whitner: Zero: 8th overall pick gets beaten out by UDFA and former WR for starting job. Being a top 10 pick=Zero 2006 John McCargo: Zero - no explanation needed. 2007 Marshawn Lynch 1/2 - Made the PB and is a good back, but was beaten out by UDFA and D3 Jackson. If he is traded with little return this will drop to a zero. To add the figures: 0+1+0+1/2+1/2+0+0+0+0+1/2=2.5 2.5/10=.25 = 25% success rate. 25% As we can see, a top 10/first pick is not valuable to a Bills organization that simply can not draft well early on. Now I realize Nix is in the house now, but he was there last year too, and Maybin was the Bills selection. Maybin has not shown anything in his rookie year that can make anyone think the Bills have righted the ship. Now considering it is feasible that the Bills could trade away that pick for say, Wilfork or McNiel, I would be all for doing it. Lets be honest here, the only player I gave a 1 to in my rankings - which I feel are very accurate - is Clements, who spent only 6 years with the team. Only 2 or 3 of those years was he very dominant. We could be getting guys who are entering the prime of their careers in Wilfork/McNiel, who could easily pend 6 years in Buffalo dominating, and not unknown rookies who need to be taught the game and have little chance of succeeding, who will then likely leave via FA. We are going to draft a T/NT most likely anyways with taht #9 overall. I say dont risk drafting another colossal bust. Save the top 10 pick money, dont risk taking a rookie, and divert the money into a big contract for Wilfork/McNiel by trading the pick away.
-
I dont like either that much, just Clausen more. Clausen I would consider taking over Bulaga, Bradford I would not. Hopefully we dont get the choice though, because I have zero confidence in our scouting staff choosing the right player.

As I have said before, creatine and water weight. Creatine causes the body to store more water in the muscles, that extra water makes one weight more. If/when they get dehydrated, they can easily lose 10 LBs over night. Its a hell of a lot easier to lose that weight than to gain it. So why is it so hard to fathom than Maybin gained 25 lbs from Jan 1 (end of Penn Sts season) to the end of Feb (Combine), only to lose 25 lbs from the end of Feb(Combine) til July(Training camp). less than 2 months to gain 25 lbs,. and over 4 months to lose 25 lbs. Its not hard to comprehend. PS A gallon of water weighs 8.35 lbs. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_does_on..._of_water_weigh It is common practice at body building completions for the competitors to guzzle down a gallon of water to make them weigh more at weigh in. This is because when they calculate body fat %, the higher the weight of the person, the lower the % if the body fat remains constant - and because drinking water does not affect how much body fat you have, it alters the calculation. I am 10000000% confident that the guys trying to add lbs for the combine practice this same trick, only to sprint to the urinal after they get off the scale. My guess is after Maybin drained the lizard he was already back down to 240sih.
