  1. As someone who actually believes in education (and works at a Division II school), this disgusts me. Why bother with classes at all? Just make another semi-pro league. It's not like all that money that these schools bring in from athletics gets spent in the classroom anyway.
  2. Maybe the NHL ought to spend some money to try to change that.
  3. I'd love to see them open it up more, especially with CJ and Fred. Chan totally mis-used those guys.
  4. The difference is that "Redskin" was once used as a derogatory term. "Seminole" is the actual name of the tribe (and, incidentally, the Seminole nation gave it's stamp of approval to it). I think taking away the "Fighting Illini" (which the NCAA did) was stupid because that was hardly derogatory. But I can see that people might get offended at "Redskin." (I like the potato idea, though. )
  5. Did anybody ready the some of the comments? Apparently Titans fans think about as highly about their franchise as Bills fans do.
  6. Maybe there's still hope. Make Lovie DC and Assistant HC. I will say this about Marrone. He changed the attitude and culture in Syracuse. Maybe that's why they liked him. If they get a solid DC and don't go into yet another rebuilding mode, then maybe something good will happen. But I'm so tired of rebuilding.
  7. There's nothing complicated about it. In fact you just outlined what needed to be done - better facilities and talent. The most complicated part of that is evaluating talent. Like I said. It's very hard but it's not complicated.
  8. You act as if building a winning football program requires some kind of PhD and archaic formulas or something. I'm not saying it's easy. It's very hard, but it's not complicated.
  9. Meh. Whatever. I have a hard time accepting the fact that this front office is that much smarter than people on this board given 13 years with no playoff appearance. Yeah, Lovie missed the playoffs five out the last six seasons, but bringing in Marrone means starting from scratch - again. And, frankly, I'm just sick of it. And Lovie is waaaay different from the retreads we've hired in the past. Plus, our biggest weakness this season was our D - we were awful on D. So what do we do? We hire another offensive minded coach. Yeah, Brandon's a genius.
  10. Yep. That's what I was thinking. I really wanted Lovie. After the last 8-10 months I think, after more than three decades, the Bills may have finally lost me as a fan. Marrone may end up being great, but it's a hell of a gamble with too many question marks. It honestly smacks of Russ Brandon thinking he's smarter than everyone else.
  11. Yeah, I haven't heard anyone explain why Russ & Co. are so in love with Whisenhunt and Horton other than the Whaley connection. Whisenhunt's best season was 10-6 which is the same record that got Lovie fired.
  12. And to think, four games into the 2008 season Peter King had him as his first-quarter MVP.
  13. He's my brother's uncle's cousin's roommate's son's best friend's father's best friend.
  14. It actually would fit the general modus operandi of most of the key players and I could see it fitting in in Niagara Falls in a weird sort of way. I don't know if I like it, but if it were true I could at least live with it. Of course, it's all a pipe dream because Wilson is one of the most stubborn men on earth so I think he'll be true to his word about not selling until he's dead (which, given how stubborn he is, will probably not happen for another decade).
  15. Gruden actually was on Seifert's staff with the Niners in 1990 (and in 11 years of head coaching he's only had two losing seasons).
  16. I love these threads. They're like collective daydreams. Nix has already said nothing's going to happen. And we all know that, even if Gailey and the crew do get booted, a replacement will be another retread, at least as long as Ralph is the owner.
  17. How can you tell the difference? I mean, guys that were on our supposedly ****ty team during the Jauron years are playing elsewhere and doing pretty well. So how do we know for sure the team was that bad? I agree with the original post. The winning attitude has to begin at the top and filter down. Otherwise, it's hard to even tell whether you've got an underachieving team or a bad team.
  18. Maybe it's time for another Billboard, but this time with Ralph's name on it...
  19. Yeah, he seemed to make it clear that, in his mind, rebuilding takes more than three years. Mind you, he took over a team that had finished 7-9 three out of the four previous years so it's not like they were starting from scratch. There are plenty of examples of quicker turn-arounds (e.g. Indy this year, Miami a few years ago, etc.).
  20. Agreed. Teams regularly turn things around in less than three years when they have the right leadership. Unfortunately, the problems with this organization start further up the totem pole. Nevertheless, a better HC would have gotten better results out of the existing talent on the team. After 13 years of this pathetic excuse of an organization, I would be happy with a winning season.
  21. Really? I can't believe he's even on the list. He had four - FOUR - good seasons. Yes, he rushed for more than 2000 yards once, but he was playing for the Broncos! As Greg Easterbrook once said of the Denver running game, "insert back, gain 1000 yards." Recall that they once had two guys do it in the same season! Seems more like the product of a great OL and fantastic scheme. Not that he was a bad back or anything. And maybe deserving eventually, but to be on the list in his first year?
