  1. I have 2-1 odds that we will see Steve running through the wreckage on CNN carrying a stack of DVD players and other "collectibles" after the hurricane hits....
  2. perhaps, you are on dail-up? Nothing wrong with the site now. The loading isn't instantaneous, but it definitely isn't slow. It is very responsive.
  3. "What I want I take What I don't I break" Song: Problem Child Album: Back in Black Band: AC/DC That would be a great download....
  4. No, this is the one we had yesterday, but double the RAM. This one is almost passable now, but we are going ahead with a much, much faster box to future proof ourselves for the draft or the Super Bowl....
  5. are you serious? we were just discussing how this thing is FLYING right now and we didn't even get the new machine yet (they just doubled our RAM).... Script times are well below 1 second as opposed to 10 seconds.
  6. I was just told that our much faster box with 2x the RAM is being set up now and should start to have our data transferred later today. The URL with the numbers that you see above will probably change (which will mean yet another login), so please access the board through: twobillsdrive.com if you have troubles. After that, we will tweak settings until this puppy runs like grease lightning!
  7. you can click on a user's name and choose to ignore them....
  8. if you click on a user's name you can choose to ignore them...
  9. even if we get more RAM, I'm not certain this processor can handle the load like our community needs, so I will go w/ the machine I originally budgeted for. I have submitted the request, but do not have a time frame when it will be changed. Expect tomorrow to be a bumpy ride, since we had problems this weekend with lighter traffic. I appreciate your patience while we get this all straightened out...
  10. I don't know how it was installed, but any common mysql restart command would NOT work. Finally after an hour, I stumbled upon the reboot command.... Grrrrrr..... Maybe more ram won't help and I should just get the bigger machine.

  12. we also need another RAM bump. That should hopefully cut down on the long page load times. I have a request in for the pricing. If it is too much then we will go with the faster machine with 2x the RAM.
  13. we have not tweaked any of the performance settings yet. I see some potential issues, but need to differ to someone who knows more than I do. We will do the tweaking, examine where we stand and then either seek to upgrade the components or bite the bullet for a beefier rig.
  14. I'm hesitant to switch DNS entries until it is all working, so we will need to deal with the ugly IP for now. I am concerned that sometimes it takes 3-4 sec. to execute a command (but load is still very low). Not sure what that implies.
  15. it was a fairly rude switch wasn't it???? Hey, I figured not much was going on tonight, so let's just pull the plug and flick the switch!
  16. this weekend!!! you will probably have to login again. Sorry! Let's hope this is the final steps to stability. At least no one is suspending accounts here - we can run this machine into the ground if we wish! as always, keep an eye on things and report any problems.
  17. I'm debating whether to do some load testing this morning before they add RAM or not.... Either way - the end game is near!
  18. the good news is that they are reformatting the disk as we speak. I should have everything up and running tomorrow night. This will give us the weekend for the domain to point to the new machine. Again, this one may be a dog - we'll wait and see. If it is we can do a quick upgrade with the same host.
  19. I just had a bad chown command...., so I screwed my root account.
  20. I wacked our server and now I am waiting on support. Damn root level access....
  21. I was given the choice between two rigs and I chose the less expensive one to see if that would be good enough. I have doubts that it will be, but at a savings of $420 - it is worth a shot. If we end up killing that machine - there is no problem in them switching us quickly to a beefier machine with minimal down time. So, be prepared that our initial switch may not go smoothly - I just have no idea what our REAL server requirements are and I don't want to piss your money away either.
  22. what browser are you using? try IE if you have it.
  23. only in a limited form. If the board gets out of control, I will have to turn it off again. So, please go back to work and SEVERELY limit your visits.
