A Jacksonville article

If the Jags want fans they should do one thing next year, draft Tim Tebow. My parents live in St. Augustine right outside Jax and everyone loves the Gators and LOVES the local Boy Mr. Tebow. I don't care what their pick is, draft the guy and the franchise will survive. I'm telling you, that would get butt's in the seats.

you know, that is EXACTLY what New Orleans people said about drafting Archie Manning....

Not making a direct comparison, but a little historical perspective can't hurt.

I hear ya but we are talking about probably the best college football player ever. This kid is a winner and has the "it" quality that Archie Manning never had. I am not familiar with how much Archie was loved but I live in the Florida area and have never seen anything like the love affair for Tebow. I hope it happens.

If Jax loses the Jags, so what? We'll still have the great weather, the beaches, and the low taxes.

OK, so what does all of the above have to do with anything? lol I think that a lot of people are coming to the same conclusion I did back in 2004. And with the woeful economy and ever-rising costs to go to a game, it makes it much easier. Certainly here in FL (even in the winter) there are PLENTY of "fun" things to do on Sunday instead of spending 3-9 hours watching football!

Oh btw, I'm glad I grew up in WNY and am proud of that, but IMHO, the quality of life available here in FL is far beyond what can be had up there.

I'm not saying I'm not a "fan" anymore, not at all. Just saying that I'm nowhere near the level I used to be, and there are many factors that caused it. For many people, the cost and hassle of going to a game just isn't worth it.

I'm with you on this one.

For a few years now I have been DVR'ing the Sunday Ticket Bills game and watching the game at night when I'm ready to watch the game.

This year I cancelled Sunday Ticket and bought the NFL Gamerewind, it's even better, I dont have to record the game. and it's a lot cheaper.

I'm going to be riding my new Suzuki Boulevard C50T or golfing or hnaging with the family on Sundays.

Ha! Since 2004, I've been hangin' with my family and/or riding my '99 Honda Valkrie or my '07 Yamaha FZ1 (a couple months ago, I upgraded from my '03 FZ1) on most Sundays. Occasionally, I'll meet up with my sister & bro-in-law and take in a Bills game at a sports bar though. And I might try to go see the game here in Jax when the Bills come in Nov....shouldn't be too hard to get a ticket. lol

Be careful on that crotch rocket, do you have windy roads or mostly straight roads?

Archie was from NO, starred at Ole Miss... he was Da Schitt for folks down there. He was also one of the best college QBs of his era. I agree, though, he did not have the same success as Tebow.

The cynic in me wonders at what point Jax decides to tank the season to guarantee they get Tebow. Should be interesting, no?

I am an outside observer (never lived in either Buffalo or Jax, lived in NC my entire life) and have traveled to both cities extensivley, unless you are in Ponte Vedra, Jax is a hellhole.

So be it. Just get a team in there so they can see firsthand (again) just how "great" of a market it is, and we won't have to hear about the Bills potentially moving there.

Al Michaels during the Sunday Night game was fighting for an LA team. He was trying to say how great the market was and cited a game 50 years ago that drew 100,000 people, pathetic.

I can't believe there are people on here who don't even watch the Bills live, or think going to the game isn't all that fun..........When the Bills are playing a meaningful game, there is nothing else I'd rather be doing than be at or watching the game.

I've never heard the argument that there is too much to do in Jacksonville before. I hate it enough when Boston, etc. people tell me that. I'm like yeah like what - what can you be doing that is better than NFL football, and that I can't be doing in Buffalo if I wanted to.

That's what I think is funny about this thread. People act as if football isn't fun. Maybe it's not fun to you, but that doesn't mean other don't enjoy it. If watching/going to football games is a chore, then you're not a fan(atic). And at that point, who cares?

Now hold on...I live in Richmond and for me, watching the game on TIVO vs watching the game live is just a better experience. I watch the game in 1/2 the time by simply FF through commercials and halftime. I have been doing that for ten years, and I HATE watching a game real time with all the commercials. Plus I get the benefit of enjoying the day and doing stuff besides watching the game...so to me I get the best of both worlds. Watch the Bills without commercials and still do other stuff in the best weather we have for the year.

Now, I would absolutely take being at the stadium over watching on Tivo..and still usually make two a year. But lord those TV timeouts still kill me!! Love going to the game, but can see how if you have small kids going to more than a couple games a year not an option, unless you have a very forgiving wife or inlaws who like to babysit

Archie was a great QB that played for a horrible team ... he played before FA so he had no opportunity to escape the wasteland that the Saints were back in his day. Tebow will not make a good NFL QB - he is not accurate enough to play at the pro level.

You may be interested in this msg, from another thread, posted right here in this forum.....sounds like a great place to watch a game!

"We been going to Bills games since 88 atleast twice a year. Stoped going in 2006 only go to away games now, and been taking my kid to see the Eagles atleast twice a year since 2000 and will continue. I must say Eagles fans are saints versus Bills fans. I had my one 12 yr son with us the one game and he had a Manning jersey on. I couldnt believe Bills fans were spitting at him cause of the jersey. Thats all i and my buddy's needed to see is them spitting on a 12 year old kid. Needless to say we had fun kick'n the crap out of Bills drunks we didnt know how fun and easy it was doing this we had a blast. Will aways be a Bills fan but wont go to the stadium anymore, rather watch it on the big screen instead of with the drunk Bills fans showing off their summer teeth in the winter."

Also, in November & December, on a Sunday afternoon, you really think that Buffalo & Jacksonville are equal in possible outdoor activities.....really!? Umm.....OK. <_<

I know He said that the idea that LA couldn't support a team was "garbage" because of that game. LOL!

But word is the NFL still wants to put a team there.

Lived in PVB for nine years, and am now in Atlantic Beach. Sure there are a few spots around Jax, just like in any other city, that are rough, but labeling the whole area a hellhole is just plain asinine and fallacious.

I am now starting to think the jags will move.. but Tebow will reverse that.. Its funny went to the game this week and saw three jags jerseys with TEBOW on the back... Its kinda hard to sell out a 76,000 seat stadium with a small population..But jacksonville has everything you need for a NFL team, The beach and the best Golf courses in the world

If I watch the game at home, I start at 1:15. That way I can FF through the timeouts.
