What is it with all the high motor white guys on our DL? Robert Royal? Maybe Langston Walker was a good signing, he seems to be living up to the deal as a Right Tackle. Why can't they lock in Jason Peters? (Why can't our receivers get open?) Remember the old days when our GM would sign cast-offs like Billy Brooks, Frank Lewis, and James Lofton? Why did they let Pat Williams go to Minnesota? The guy was and still is a beast. That was absurd. What happened to Chris Ellis? Who drafted McCargo? These are not Jauron's issues. Jauron is the head coach and made a lot of boneheaded calls this year. But the offense and defense did show improvement. Granted, we played some lousy teams. Let's dump Dockery's salary. Draft a center and move Duke Preston to left guard. Cut Robert Royal. Draft Chase Coffman. Sign Julius Peppers. Sign our own guy Crowell. Maybe James Hardy can come around in year two, or will he be Bucky Brooks? Get a good veteran backup QB in here. Sign Fred Jackson to a long-term deal. Bring in Jim Kelly as Special Assistant Head Coach in Charge of Play-Calling and Ass-Kicking. Bring in Andre Reed to teach a course in route running and getting open. Take clock management responsibility from Jauron and give it to one of the fans who sit behind the bench. Give it to the Elvis guy. Anybody but Jauron. Find somebody like London Fletcher to get up in people's grilles and make them play like they give a crap. Sign Jabari Greer to a long-term deal. Bring back Rusty Jones. We do know that our current coach didn't give Freddie J. a chance until one of "his guys" got hurt. That particular guy was quite obviously done as an NFL player but that didn't stop our ever loyal HC from wasting a ton of snaps on him in games that counted. Coach Jauron seems like a great guy and he's probably pretty intelligent. But he's a terrible gameday coach and that's not up for debate. Every coach gets dealt sh-- sandwiches EVERY season. All anyone here needs to do is go back, listen to the Pressers, read the articles...Jauron has final say on ALL Personnel decisions...Now granted they are usually consensus decisions...But if it's a tie, Jauron gets the final say... And did the same with Brandon this year. I think the trade-off for DJ was giving up some personnel control to Tom Modrak. The funny thing is, there is no one we can hold accountable for any move. Modrak, and Guy simply supply information. We don't know the real decision makers, whoever they are. Lori Posted December 31, 2008 Share Posted December 31, 2008 When I talked to John Guy in November 2007, he said that while he and the player personnel dept. are responsible for bringing players in, Jauron and the coaching staff make the decisions on who to sign. This couldn't have been more evident than in the Teddy Lehman fiasco. We talked about his long history of injuries when the Bills first signed him, but he played for Jauron in Detroit, so in he came ... only to appear on the injury report in four out of seven games, missing two of them. Many organizations have a GM and he sets the direction of the team and takes input from the coaches, scouts, etc. He has final say on personnel and since he also has authority on the coaching staff, there are advantages to being on the same page. In Buffalo, it seems more like Modrak and Guy just make up a naughty and nice list and mail it in. Jauron, Brandon and Overdorf then decide what to do -- like signing a pass rushing LB so they can have him drop back into coverage and stuff like that. Exactly - Bills are an NFL-caliber Center away from being a very strong offense - assuming they get Peters in camp and they all stay fairly healthy. Preston needs to get back to being a backup. Fowler needs to stick to chess. The Bills collapse started when Butler went down. Then they had a gaping hole in the middle of their line that's dammed tough to play around. The same thing happened to Jacksonville at the biginning of the season - they lost both guards and their center and they went from a physically imposing running team on the rise in 2007 to a struggling loser in 2008. You think Jack Del Rio coaches his team "soft"?? The Bills never had a decent center, and w/o Butler they were really hurting. Why should they have been able to beat a decent team like that? Remember when Whittle was playing?? Was that a nightmare or what? They need a center AND some more OL depth. Bell, Chambers, and maybe Preston are a start but they are still very young.
