The intelligence official identified the al Qaeda leader as Abu Akash. "He is a mid-level al Qaeda man who was leading a high-profile life in Mir Wali," said the official, who declined to be identified, referring to the second biggest town in the North Waziristan region on the Afghan border. Two missiles were fired by a pilotless "drone" aircraft into a house in Mir Ali, a major sanctuary for foreign Islamist militants including Arabs, and Central Asians, another intelligence official said. A witness said the house was ablaze after the strike. U.S. drones have carried out about 15 such missile attacks on militant targets in lawless ethnic Pashtun tribal lands on the Pakistani side of the border with Afghanistan since the beginning of September. U.S. forces also launched a cross-border commando raid in September. Scores of people have been killed but no senior al Qaeda or Taliban leaders have been reported to have died. The strike came two days after Pakistan summoned the U.S. ambassador to protest against missile strikes and demand that they be stopped immediately. Nuclear-armed U.S. ally Pakistan is also battling militants on its side of the border but it says cross-border U.S. strikes undermine efforts to isolate the militants and rally public opinion behind the unpopular campaign against militancy. It just gave Obama a bounce in every model of the Gallup poll going into the final weekend before election day! He is now +11 (registered), +9 (likey voters expanded), and +8 (likely voters traditional). I guess winding down your campaign with a strong closing argument is just a waste! It does, however, highlight the fundamental difference between McCain's and Obama's campaigns: the fundamental ability to express a coherent message. McCain can't do that. Obama can. Obama can do it so well, that he can wrap it in a half-hour infomercial and dazzle people...and dazzle them so effectively that no one seems to realize it's a fantastical message of "Let's all live in a magical land of Change where ponies prance through fields of lollipops under a sky filled with sunshine and rainbows!" Everybody starts spending that money, they decide maybe I can afford a new car, maybe I can afford a computer for my child. They can buy the products and services that businesses are selling and everybody is better off. All boats rise. That’s what happened in the 1990s, that’s what we need to restore. And that’s what I’m gonna do as president of the United States of America. How the !@#$ is raising my taxes going to make a new car or computer more affordable for middle class people? And regarding the part I highlighted. No they won't be able to afford those products because they'll be more expensive because the company offered those products and services are going to have to raise prices to compensate for the higher taxes.
