Bills Murphy ready to return from shoulder injury

http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=716814

Buffalo Bills reserve tackle Matt Murphy expects to be cleared to resume practicing next week after electing not to have season-ending surgery to repair a partially torn left rotator cuff.

Not only that, Murphy said after practice Monday that he's preparing to fill a dual role: splitting time at his former position, tight end. Entering his seventh NFL season, Murphy played tight end before the Bills converted him to tackle midway through last year.

Murphy has been out for a month since being hurt during a training camp practice. He's spent the past two weeks strengthening his shoulder and has put off having surgery until the offseason.

Murphy was particularly grateful of the faith the Bills showed in him by keeping him on their active roster after making their final cuts last weekend.

Four games he has has played according to NFL.com:

What has he shown to make the team?

he can almost play two positions

He's been converted from TE to OT. Maybe the team thinks they have a trend working.

When I heard he had a rotator cuff injury, it seemed inevitable that it would be a season ending thing. At camp, I saw him get tossed around, and I think most of it had to do with his weight being in the 270 range for a position that most play at or above 300 pounds.

He never seemed to be much as for being a TE. Maybe he'll be cut if and when Peters returns. Then again, maybe they'll have him revert back to TE.

I don't understand how a guy with a torn rotator cuff could even think of playing tackle or actually any position. Having had a torn rotator myself the pain associated with ever day movement was enough for me to get it fixed. I just don't understand why he makes the roster.
