does it matter kelly ran 4.68?

Recommended Posts

the purpose of the big receiver is the win physical matchups vs smaller db's, not out run them (smaller guys like evans do that.) i've seen enough film of kelly making big time catch, after big time catch (more than any WR i've even seen in college) to feel cofident he will be an impact player in the nfl.

I understand where your coming from but there are more factors involved here. One is his injury history. How bad is it? The one that turned me off was that little tantrum he threw after his workout. That was childish and all i could think of was Dwayne Jarrett. i read a few articles about Steve Smith having to make this guy focus because he couldnt do it himself. If Kelly throws a tantrum becasue things didnt go his way in the NFL i dont want Evans to have to waste time telling him to grow up and do something about it

I love how some are calling this a tantrum. The guy flat out delivered on the field. His on field performance had him projected to make several million dollars more then what he now stands to earn. Lets say you kicked ass at your job and made great money. Then your company made you perform an aptitude test that you didn't do so well at. They then cut your salary in half. Would you be throwing a "tantrum". You can debate the analogy, but the guy is getting screwed more then Jenna Jamison at this point.

years ago, perhaps. age and injury have slowed him down a bit. he's good now because he's physical. he doesn't blow by anyone

Are you joking? Watch a Dallas game the guy blows by defenders. He caught Crayton who had about a 15 yard lead on him and escorted him in the end zone for another 40 yards. Alot of people dont like to admit it but he is the best WR right now, yes better than Randy "all I run is the fade" Moss. I dislike TO as much as the next person but the guy is nasty.

How many slow big receivers are successful in the NFL? I can probably name one or two. The vast majority of guys that slow are either average or below-average receivers.

Funny, thats the exact play I was thinking of as well......watch that and then tell me he's not fast.

True, and I do not want a Keyshawn Johnson.

Or the next Mike Williams.

There have been more than enough fairly high profile flops of big, yet slow WRs in recent years that I'd be pretty concerned if they choose to rely on someone who hasn't proven he can run better than a 4.7. Its one thing to lack blazing deep speed, but there does come a point where a bad 40 can easily be indicative of a guy who is slow across the board. As I've said before, if he really IS a 4.7-type guy, maybe Malcolm Kelly will overcome the odds, but based on the recent history of similar players, the odds seem strongly stacked against him. Until he proves he's faster than that, I would not regard him as a potential starter, but as a situational player.

Doesnt matter about the drops the guy is productive. Look at the stats.

Which 2007 stats would you like me to look at? Was he #1 in catches? TDs? Yards? Drops?

Back up what you are saying with some facts.

Im not saying hes the leader in every category. You mean to tell me you wouldnt like a WR with his productivity on the Bills, minus the a--hole factor. Cmon BB, the guy does attract a lot of attention but he is a great WR.

He is a very good and probably great WR, but I would stop short of saying he's the best. Would I like a player with his skills on the Bills? Who wouldn't?

We're cool. :pirate:

Mike,

I'd call it a tantrum, because (and you can correct me if I'm wrong) if this was a real world situation I would not be able to throw my briefcase twice, blame the test the employer gave me and imply they wanted me to fail in the first place. If he were just upset I'd be completely fine with it; but the fact he threw his shoes...yelled at his strength and conditioning staff - a staff he hasn't worked with since he went to the Chip Smith training facility I might add - and threw a guy like Bob Stoops, who has been known as one of the "good guys" of College football to the curb.

If he's there after the first round, sure let's get him and hope he's going to mature. But he did a lot to un-do the character work he'd set up.
