What-the-hell was that Creed thing that everybody let happen about 5 years ago?

Creed and the 30 bands that sounded just like Creed? I think it's still going on.

They changed their style from music to hits. They went from musicians to rock stars. Commercialism and pap plagued their souls! The garbage they spewed was some of the most annoying crap ever recorded.

For sure. A sad fate for many bands.

i know mine will be unpopular, but i have to go with van halen...not a fan of thier music, but evh's "megalomania" really makes this band unbearable for me

I am going to say Phish, I hate them they definitly suck. Who ever sings for them is horrible, I go to this one bar and they play like 20 phish songs in a row. And whats the deal with the drummer wearing a dress can some one please explain that to me. I think Phish should be taken out of every juke box in every bar they SUCK

Creed/Nickleback/All the other garbage "rocknroll" bands that they spawned

Dave Matthews/Jack Johnson/John Mayer/every other Frat Boy with a guitar

koRn/Linkin Park/staind/most nu-metal

Korn I like, they've been around for quite a while. That first CD of theirs is good. Staind, LP... with you 100%. Trash.

I *know* I'm going to get flamed and flamed again for this one. But my most hated band? Led Zeppelin. I can't stand them. Sure, credit for being influential and all that, but the music? I don't like one single solitary song.

creed...didnt they rip off another of my most hated bands...pearl jam? listening to eddie vedder "sing" is like nails on a chalkboard

Yes, the Vedder impressionists are the lead singers of EVERY band now, it seems.

You are also spot on about Van Halen. Saw them early in their career and they sucked even then. DL Roth prancing around on stage twirling the mike acting like a Jim Dandy impersonator. Eddie Van Halen posing with his guitar vertical and playing riffs...just riffs over and over as if that was guitar playing. Just fuc#ing HORRID!

I have to agree about LZ... Plant is as annoying as it gets... Wanna hear me scream?

I guess I will get flamed too by the metal heads...

So you basically hate every rock act that has been big from the late 90's till mid 00's.

I agree w/ Dr. Fong that Phish is not my type of band, but awesome musicians.

When I was I was in high school, my school's sports boosters worked the one side of the concessions at the Darien Lake PAC for this Phish show. So, it starts downpouring like you wouldn't believe at this show and these teenage girls are walking around in white tees and some are flashing my principal and asst. principal to get beer. As I take a trip to the bathroom, the line is superlong (longer than any i have seen at the Ralph) as people are cramming in there to get out of the rain. Every toilet and quite a few urinals were occupied by four legs  and you got to see all sorts of drugs being consumed. As I get to the urinal i look to the left and see this couple going at it, and to the right this dude is offering me a joint. So after i piss and take a couple hits I dash back through the pouring rain to the concessions. After the rain breaks my buddies and I bolt out of the work to walk around and enjoy the concert for free. As I am walking through the lawn I got to watch the show and enjoy some of the "goods" being passed around. But I was really impressed w/ their guitar licks and can see why the big time druggees love listening to them.

REM - just waaaaaaaaaaay too pretentious for me

So let me get this straight: A a musician or band is pretentious if they are smart, write good lyrics/poetry, and they actually care about the world around them and write about their observations of the world?

I agree... But they do have some cool edgy work more obscure work... It has to be taken in extreme moderartion or when the mood is right.

I know your critism on Boston is what it is... I respect that... To clarify, the thing that always attracted me to it was the "clean lines"... And technically perfect composition... I know most of it is cheesy... But something attracts me to it.

There is no denying that ABBA is cheesy... There again... I am attracted to the sound... Maybe it was an age thing... Being born in 1968??

Now, like I said above... LZ... Totally unlistenable IMO...

People are gonna shoot me... But, the Rolling Stones are very hit and miss with me... Again, I get attracted to the "naco" with say "Waiting on A Friend"/Tatto You...

...Go figure...

I guess in the end it all about what people hear and their ears!

NO! They are pretentious if they ooze the "We're better than everyone else because of what we believe". I don't know that much about REM as I couldn't get past their bubble-gum dreck like Stand and Shiny Happy People, so REM isn't really on my most pretentious list (just most annoying). I have the impression they are pretentious, but I'm not sure.

Bono, on the other hand...

Rem was good, circa 1992.

I agree on the Stones. Hit and miss. Paint it black? Good. Start me up? No thanks. LZ yes yes, "unlistenable" is a good way to put it. I just don't personally see the draw towards them. The vocals? The guitar work? None of it clicks.

Another one I've never really understood is Nirvana. I'm *that* age group. It always angers folks when I bring this up, but to me it's just a bunch of noise coupled with self-loathing lyrics.

What *do* I like? Pink Floyd...The Wall, Dark Side, Momentary Lapse... great stuff. Social Distortion. Bad Religion. Therapy? Dream Theater. Face to Face. Godsmack. Ministry. Rush. Sevendust. Metallica. Tool. Soundgarden and RATM, but not Audioslave. Megadeth. U2. Samiam. Orgy. NIN. Helmet. Matchbox 20. Deftones. Carlos Santana. COC. The Crystal Method. Alice in Chains. Alkaline Trio. Chevelle. Faith No More. Goo Goo Dolls. The Offspring (Ignition!).... and pretty much anything with a nice warm blues guitar.

I like a wide range of everything. It's largely Nirvana and Led Zeppelin, individually. I just can't stomach them.

Jeff
